  1. I think amending is the only solution. I have never seen a form comparable to the 3115 for CA. Tom Modesto, CA
  2. Form 568 is the LLC Tax return. Form 3522 is the payment voucher for the current year. Form 3536 is the estimated tax payment voucher. You use both. Tom Modesto, CA
  3. In my experience, as long as the employee does not file a complaint against the employer and pays the tax due on their personal return, the IRS and State do not come after the employer. It usually only becomes an issue when the employee fails to pay their taxes on the income from the employer that the IRS or CA look to the employer for withholding that should have been done. I know this is not how the law reads, but it is my experience. Tom Modesto, CA
  4. I will let you know when I finally get the documents from the client to finish it. Tom Modesto, CA
  5. My real sales line on this subject goes something like this: "I charge by the form. I don't know for sure what forms you need, so I don't know for sure what it will cost. If you will show me last year's return, I can tell you how much I would have charged for that return. When we get done with the return this year, If you don't like the price, you can pick up your documents and walk out, no hard feelings. I price my services reasonably, and I think you will see that when we get done." I have never had anyone pick up their documents after I have completed the return. I think that knowing I will give them a last minute opt out gives them confidence. Or, I have them so far into the process that even if they think I am a little high on price, they don't want to go through the exercise again with someone else. Tom Modesto, CA
  6. I will do my best. Tom Modesto, CA
  7. Call the 800 number on the back of your card and the recording will tell you something else. Tom Modesto, CA
  8. Nope, it is on their recorded message before you even get to an operator. Before they knew where I was or who I was or what I needed. Tom Modesto, CA
  9. Normally, they give you a ride in the cab of the tow truck. At least the few times I have needed a tow, that is what they dig. I did not ask to ride in the cab of my truck, I know that is not allowed. I don't do Facebook or Instagram. You all are my social network. Feel free to use this information any way you want. Tom Modesto, CA
  10. I went to Reno NV this weekend to see my son and do some yard work with him (gambling was not the reason - it is my story, I will tell it my way). On the way through the mountains, my transmission went out. I am on the side of the road, 20 miles from the nearest town with weekend traffic whizzing by on Interstate 80. I am still 50 miles from my son's home. So I call AAA and tell them I need a tow. They tell me that is no problem, but that they can't let me ride with the vehicle. I have to arrange for my own transportation. Here I am on the side of the freeway, and I have to stand there, waiting for my son to come get me. Luckily, he was able to get out of work early and come get me, but the AAA driver just left me on the side of the road in the middle of the Sierra Nevada mountains. I am sorry, but this just seems wrong and wronger to me. If it was my wife instead of me, I would have been livid that they would leave her on the side of the road. Re-thinking my commitment to AAA after 30 years. I think there are other services out there. This policy of theirs could have deadly repercussions. Tom Modesto, CA
  11. Thank you for sharing John. Tom Modesto, CA
  12. Thanks Tom Modesto, CA
  13. TP formed a DE corporation cause the interwebby told him it was a good Idea. Is completely based in CA. I see that he has to pay a franchise tax to DE for the privilege of incorporating in the state. But I don't think they have to file a DE 1100 because they are "not doing business" in DE and the income tax is based on the apportionment to DE from the Federal 1120. Do I have this correct? Thanks Tom Modesto, CA
  14. I think the answer lies in what the office is used for. If it is used regularly and exclusively in the pursuit of his schedule C income, then it would be allowed. However, if it is used in the pursuit of his employment, it would not be allowed as employee business expenses are no longer deductible. JMHO Tom Modesto, CA
  15. ATX was much better when you were there. I love the software, hate CCH. In fact, my screen name on the official ATX board is "Idon'tlikeCCH". The soul of the company left when they closed down the Caribou offices and moved to Georgia. Tom Modesto, CA
  16. Does it include reported CPE hours, or is it just informational? Tom Modesto, CA
  17. Yes, I have a client who got PPP with his spouse/employee W2 income and the 2.5 months of his Schedule C income. The bank had no issue with the spouse W2 income as the only payroll expense. Tom Modesto, CA
  18. You are correct. I lose 2 hours of CPE every year when I do my Federal/State update class. I don't get credit for the 2 hours they spend on California compliance/non-compliance. Tom Modesto, CA
  19. Are they separated? Or just MFS? Normally, if separated, the spouse claiming the child would be HOH, not MFS. All credits available. If not separated, then my understanding is the credit is not available. Tom Modesto, CA
  20. Abby, when you post responses like this, I am first AMAZED at how good you are with these things, then I am humbled to the point of embarrassment that I am so technically challenged in these areas. You make me feel old and unworthy. Tom Modesto, CA
  21. I was planning to go to Dallas until they went virtual. I love the Gaylord Texan and there is a BBQ joint not too far away that I was looking forward to eating at. I am really bummed. I am waiting to see if NATP holds their Las Vegas Seminar September 29-30. As of right now, they have not cancelled, so I am still holding out hope. If they go virtual on that, I will just pick up the CPE I need from Spidell or ClientWhys online. I still need 10 hours this year. Tom Modesto, CA
  22. I had a client several years ago who got sucked into a solar credit deal. The salesman convinced them that they would get the entire credit the first year. Bought a 70K system and were looking for a huge refund check. Their average tax liability at the time was about 2K, covered by withholding and child tax credits. After I showed them the IRS rules, they figured out that they had been "manipulated" by the salesman, but of course it was too late. We had them change their federal withholding to exempt and it took about 8 years to work off the entire credit. I think we finally used it up on the 2018 return. Tom Modesto, CA
  23. I am so frustrated with technology right now. I had to get a new phone in the last week. Just getting my email set up and my 5 apps that I use was a total pain. Then I had a problem with my email and I had to uninstall and re-install my email on both my main computer and my laptop, and they say it was because when I hooked up my phone to my email I did something to the settings that screwed up my account. Then I go to my internet browser and I don't see anything the same. So I start putting all my favorites on Chrome since MS does not even give you a warning that they are F'ing everything up. Then I get to work today, and our VPN is down, as well as my office 365 subscription saying it was deactivated and needs to be reactivated. I have 87 passwords that I need to remember, 14 codes that need to be sent to me to verify who I am so I can get on a website, and over 200 security questions that I need to remember the answers to. I am so sick and tired of these technology companies that I am ready to chuck it all, move to Alaska, and get completely off the grid. Let the government try to find me up there. Tom Modesto, CA
  24. It was the final straw for me. I am moving all my web activity to Chrome. Resetting all my favorites is almost complete. Just having a problem with this site. I should have done this when I moved to Win10. I am done with Microsoft browsers forever if I can help it. Tom Modesto, CA
  25. That is why I said "potentially". You are correct about the lack of complete details. The OP also said mother used to be in assisted living. That would imply to me that the daughter brought her mother into her home, but that is just a guess. Also guessing that the daughter probably made about 50K per year at her job that she quit, which is why the other siblings are pitching in to help her out. Also guessing that all the siblings were paying for the assisted living and find it much cheaper to pitch in with their sister to take care of the mother. Also guessing that all of this came about because the family is very concerned that mother will catch Covid in the assisted living facility. I could write a whole book about my guesses on what is going on....I was just giving another point of view that might fit the true fact pattern...a fact pattern that we don't really know.
