Honestly, I don't know. Most times I call the client, tell them what I need (and how to get it), and they show up in an hour (or the next day) with the print-out. But I'm in a small area, where everyone knows everyone! I've seen mail requests take forever, and be so quick that I wouldn't have believed it possible. (No consistency!) Jim
-
In our area, at least, you can walk in to the local office and get a print-out in minutes. (Crowd dependent) All of the information is there, but it's hard to read. Beats waiting! Jim

Local news reported a few days ago, that cops spotted the lights on at a tax prep office late the other night. Upon investigation the manager and an employee were arrrested for smoking marajuana. I assumed they had just installed the 12.6 update! Jim

Jack: The following was posted "over there" by msd45150 " We have followed this llink and are able to open the program. We also ran a forms update and downloaded the new forms. http://cchsfs-atx.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/14069/kw/ATX2012%5CAssets Next observation. The Win7 workstations only rollover a file if we first log onto the server and run Sfs.Max.RolloverService.exe. Running it at the workstation level doesn't accomplish anything. We have an open work number on this well past the 48 hours and are awaiting the response. If we ever get a response, I’ll post it as a work around. " Not sure if this is your problem or not, but the only other thread found in a search of "Could not access FAM" resulted in an ATX employee responding: "We're working on it." Hope things (considering) are well up your way, Jim

OH Lump Sum Retirement/distribution credit
Jim Oh Bkkr replied to Janitor Bob's topic in General Chat
Assuming items 1-5 were met, I would be nervous about item 6 also. Based on your facts, the distribution was NOT made because of any of the listed occurences. However, the Instruction booklet is a POOR excuse for Ohio tax law. Have you read aplicable section(s) of the ORC? I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but it may prove useful. Jim -
WELL SPOKE KC! Nice quote. Jim

You should also be aware that (unless the policy has changed), Sears will price match most any competitor PLUS refund in cash, 10% of any price difference. Merry Christmas to all of you., Though I rarely post, you all are always in my thoughts and prayers. JIm

For what it's worth, I simply mentioned that "someone" received a discount, and was given the $15.00 price. Jim

"50% of self-prepared returns are wrong, and 90% of those are wrong in the IRS' favor." That has been my sales pitch to potential new clients for years. And they are percentages that have stood the test of time for the 25+ years I have been in this business. They may not always be "big" enough to fix, but when they are, I am a hero for a lot of years. (And they [almost] always lead to referrals.) Jim
-
I'll always try for 10% above "worst case scenario". Years ago I had to defend a client whose extension was voided because 4868 (liability) was too low. It wasn't fun fight. Jim

Must be the weather, this has been unreal this year. J

There is a "special" KY reciprical return. I do mostly Ohio, so verify WV is the same. WV - report all income, pay tax. KY answer 4 or 5 questions, list Employer, and amount withheld, attach WV return copy. Jim Form is 740NPR

What a day brightener, not the story - a KC Laugh of the day! (I need to get back in my corner and be quiet, so no one knows I'm here) Jim

Rita I knew where you were at, I didn't realize you hadn't seen "Search the Communities". - Control + the mouse wheel is your friend. I've had the (un)"Official" community site's font blown up about 4 knotches for so long, I had forget how hard it was to read at the default size. BTW, I will always consider THIS the Official community. (Though it is nice to have Kamman back at the "other" place.) Jim
-
Rita, you have to click the search button. (If that is what you're talking about.) I have never seen a "search" that entering text in the search field and pressing ENTER wasn't enough. It's annoying! Jim
-
Ray it must just be us Buckeyes. I had the same thing happen last year. The look on his face, when I asked about it, was priceless! Jim

Makes me miss JN Mealer that much more! (Hope I remember the name correctly.) Jim

And let's not forget: "I don't have to pay Social Security because I'm already drawing it!" Even had a payroll client call me to complain. "Don't withhold SS on Employee X, because she said 'she doesn't have to pay it anymore'." I should've been a barber. Jim

Am I the only person here that finds it odd that the 1098 lists Interest @ 41.00, (same as the accrued interest @ closing)? The loan info shows there should be 3 payments due in 2010, and the interest on those payments (based on loan info) oddly enough equals about 750.00. Also Bob, if you do the math on the closing statement, your client, (buyer), is receiving the 174.00 for property tax NOT paying it. This is also (probably) wrong as it should be a reimbursement for 1/1/10 through 8/28/10 not 7/1/10 -(The period of 2010 that the Seller is liable for). Jim

What would you change if you were the president

I want tax laws for the current year that are set in stone AND have been since October 1 of last year. We as taxpayers ought to have a month or two to prepare our finances for next years laws (rules), and we as Tax Preparers ought to have all the forms, rules, and software we need to do our job when the season starts. Truthfully, I want a sales, consumption, use tax. I want to be in charge of the amount of tax I pay. Anyone remember the old Example: "I am the tax man, I set the tax rate. You have a $100. How much of your 100 do I control?" Jim -
Just a reminder side note Bob, the buyer has NO R/E tax deduction in the year of purchase. And Buyer will (most always) be reimbursed for the portion of the "current" year's accumulated taxes (to be paid in the following year) on the closing statement. Seller will have 13 to 24 months current R/E tax deduction (depending on sale date). You know this, I'm sure. Just reminding you, because - "I have had very little exerience with clients buying homes". To all others - This is OHIO specific and may not apply to your state. Jim

Your county auditor may have a web site with past valuations. Mine (Lawrence) does as does Franklin. Jim

New one on me (from a calendar): "Champagne to my real friends, real pain to my sham friends!" Laughed out loud, as I've never heard that one. Jim

I've got a 20 college student who worked at a beauty shop part-time. She received a hand written 1099-R - Gross Dist. 1300.00, every other block is empty. I guess any "tax form" is good enough. Jim

Error: The value must be numeric and without cents.

Don't know whether ATX fixed rounding issues, but you should develop the habit of adding: =round(922.55+802.66+788.6,0) I had this bite me in the a$$ a few years when AGI WASN'T what was displayed on the return (pennies added to the number for calculations, but NOT for display). Jim
