"If a new prospect wants me to quote a price over the phone without reviewing their return or docs, I tell them to call their doctor or dentis and say they are in pain and how much it will cost to fix it?? Most get the hint and those that don't I do NOT want them as clients." I am going to steal this from you and use it for phone quote clients

write off a car because advertising put on it
ILLMAS replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
A man entered a barbershop and asked for a shave. After the shave, the barber said, "That will be a quarter, please." "But," said the man, "Your sign says two bucks for a shave. How come only a quarter?" The barber answered, "Once in a awhile we get a guy that is all mouth and we only charge him twenty-five cents!" -

ITS May 2013 -- Time for your ATX early renewal -- What are you
ILLMAS replied to FLORIDA TAX MAN's topic in General Chat
I will tell him no thanks Mr F U -
I have new client, he brought in prior year copies and I notice his Sch E had some wild expenses in the past, I question him and he said honestly he didn't know about them, now that I started working on inputting the fixed assets, I notice mostly all improvements appear to be outrageous and I am afraid they were also over stated. He has been going to the same lady for the past 11 years and I could tell she been using Turbo Tax, because the returns are self-prepared and some supporting statements are computerized. I really don't want to touch it now, but I did tell him that I would not allow any expenses he didn't have to be deducted and he was okay with doing them correctly, I would hate having to amend returns to remove expenses and correct fixed assets.

Just wondering in the 4K he paid, was the deductible included? And for others how would the deductible be accounted for or not?

I wish I would told them, I also don't agree with my utility, cellular company etc... But I have to pay them

Today I had a TP that didn't agree on my fees this year, without hesitation I told them I don't mind if you go somewhere else, here are your papers back, and I proud of myself I didn't back out of the price .

From experience there is no simple way to print from websites, you always get unwanted pages, images and so forth, best way to print is to highlight, copy and paste to Word, works every time.

Now how many of your clients hire a cost segregation company to know what is the unused basis or know the basis of the roof that came with the house they bought? -
New Roof on a Rental property...Expense or capitalize?
ILLMAS replied to Janitor Bob's topic in General Chat
Court case Northen v. Commissioner, T.C. Summary 2003-113 (8/13/03) The Tax Court held that the cost of repairing the roof is deductible. She did not intend to prolong the life of the property, increase its value, or make it adaptable to another use. Expenditures incurred as part of a general plan of reconditioning, renovating, improving, or altering business property are capital expenditures, even though certain portions of the work, considered alone, might be classified as repairs. Regs. Sec. 1.162-4. Repairs. -
That was one of hold up of forms, IRS had to remove merchant services line from forms, just make sure 1099-K amounts are reported on the Sch C., I am not aware that it has to be entered as a 1099?

ATX doesn't backup files already backed up with no changes, if you make a backup of a file, open it or make a change, it will be backed up again. Export will create a copy each time of the client.

I export and backup tax client on a weekly basis to an external HD, sort of don't trust ATX2012. Not backing to an external HD is overlook by most, backing it up to the same computer doesn't help when the computer fails.

Yes the registration is very straight forward, but there are a couple of steps before uploading to SSA, contact me if you need help, I just did a couple so it's fresh in my head.

TP was offered a permenant job, with a sister company in Canada but the company does not have ties to the U.S. company, employer suggested for TP and family to become citizen of Canada to avoid having to declare Canada's income in the .S. From reading the instruction for 2555 and IRS forgeign earned income and housing exclusion/deductions, I cannot find any truth to it. There is a tax treaty betweent Canada/Mexico and the U.S. so it leaves me wondering... Thanks MAS

Ok thanks, I was not planning on correcting the 1099-R myself, I know there is a way to explain it, and that is what I am looking for, where do I put the explanation to attach to the tax return? It's probably something so simple.
