OK - - just got back - - -PASSED - - YAY - - Personally -- 70% of the exam was pretty clear - -forthright - -easy to find the correct answer if you weren't sure. 30% was either in teh Circular 230 - -or soooooooooooooo ambiguius, that I thought after 30 yrs in the business, I had every question imaginable - -but there were a few I had NEVER come up with. Go for it people!

I understand that you are not allowed to give out information regarding the contents of the RTRP exam, however, my question is - -how time consuming and difficult is it to access the Pub 17? Even after 30 yrs in teh business, I found myself getting hung up with some of the form # questions - -and getting a "passing" grade on practices. I also find myself trying to overthink the question - - - my experience - -it's almost NEVER black & white - - and I won't even go into the 50 shades of grey - - - My exam is scheduled for tomrrow - fingers crossed.

Thanks MIke - -I have been using ATX for years, and since I am "winding down" ( prepared 600+ 10 years ago - -to a managable 150 thiese past few years) see that it is not a bad deal for me. I actually have had pretty good support the past 2 years - - but then again - - -I emailed the sales person with a few questions, and received answers within a couple of hours. Terry O -
Congrats Fraxzzled & MAS !!!
-
Me too - -especially since we thankfully did NOT get he big storm they were calling for yesterday in Buffalo, NY. I spent the day doing "UFO's" (UnFinished Objects) cleaning out the files - - - - sending out bills - - - -
-
I also want to thank everyone - -this was my 30 th year - -sole practioner - -work out of my home - -alone. BUT - -because of this forum - -I never felt helpless or hopeless when you have that "OMG -WHERE IS MY BRAIN TODAY" MOMENT. Best of health to all - - and hope to see you next year!
-
I have had this same situation for a 90+ yr old - - very difficult explaining it to her - - until the part about NO TAX DUE!!! THAT - -she understood!!!!
-
Since I am semi retired (had a couple of years where I prepared 630+ returns) and am down to a very managable 140 - -I have a NO EXTENSION policy - -I ma very lucky - - -all are done - -and only 1 client not heard from - - - YAY!!!!!

Heading to VT to see my son, daugher in law and "grandhound" at the end of the month - -but I cheated & joined my husband at a conference in Vienna, Austria for a week at the end of March - -so I am still trying to nail down the last few slacker clients. -
Why not? If it is a "winning" - -then there may be "losses"

Got 4 through 10 minutes ago - -stopped and cannot get the last 2 - - - OY!

Client received a 1099 Misc from Americorps for $1000 - -but he never received the money. It was sent directly to the school for tuition. I know I am having a moment, but was there a way to zero it out on Line 21 ?? April 15th can NOT come soon enough! Thank You
-
Pretty sure I have a hole in the ozone layer - - -pointed directly at my office - - -pretty sure - - -becuase I have sporatic issues with NY print also - --sigh

I beleive the IT guys call it "ID10T" error - - - - :spaz:
-
Thank You All!!! When you are truely a SOLE Proprietor - - - -it really helps to have another opinion!!!
-
I know I know the answer - - credit follows the dependency. Client earns $200,000 + ,a nd has 2 kids in college. One is in her 3rd year, and earns $6000 with tuition and fees of $6000. The second child is a Freshman - --earned $1500 and tuition is $28,000. The parents do NOT qualify for ANY credit or tuition deduction. Am I correct in assuming they can elect to NOT claim Child #1 and let her get a small portion of the American Credit? Thanks!
-
OK - -thanks all!!!! I am not comfortable in taking the deduction - - -yes the job was temporary - - AND - - the parents picked up the tab for the summer rental - - see where I'm going here? AND - - -I'm cranky - - - because we ahve had the WARMEST winter in forever, and I am stuck inside working - - - I want to go for a walk - -I want to wash my car - - -I want to clean the windows - -I am pathetic! :spaz:
-
Thanks Jainen!!!! I should NOT second guess myself - - -
