I agree with cbslee, this sounds more like an employer/employee relationship. Assuming that's the case, wouldn't you need to deduct "wages" prior to taking the QBI?

Client on their end will need the ability to access the portal or website. Assuming they do not have the ability to sign any forms electronically, they'll need a printer to print the forms and sign them. They will also need a scanner or cell phone camera to reload the signed form to the portal.

Schedule 1 with check box for virtual currency
Yardley CPA replied to grandmabee's topic in General Chat
Unless your client sold virtual currency during 2019, I don't think there are any other requirements other than checking the box. Here's a decent article included in Forbes: https://www.forbes.com/sites/shehanchandrasekera/2019/12/20/cryptocurrency-question-on-irs-schedule-1-part-1-of-6/#3cb4df5c673a An excerpt from the article suggests the box must be completed if you do have any Crypto affiliation even if you don't have any other information to report on Part 1 or Part II of Schedule 1. Best Practice Is To Answer The Crypto Question According to the draft instructions for 2019 Schedule 1, if you have any crypto affiliation covered by the question, you must check “yes”, even if you do not have anything to report on Part I and Part II of Schedule 1. Leaving this question blank is not advised. As with the example above, there may be situations where the taxpayer will check “yes” but there will not be any reportable transactions on any other tax forms. This is completely fine! -
Bulldog Tom and Abby....How exactly are you entering the prior year returns? Are you overriding the fields or are you actually entering the information in their proper entry forms?

can refund go to 2 accounts - someone other than TP
Yardley CPA replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
I've been using the direct deposit method for many years with no issue (this year I will probably have a ton, now). I do like Max's idea idea of printing out the worksheet and having the client confirm it. -
ATX 1040 Line 5 Social Security Worksheet is not correct
Yardley CPA replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
Abby Normal is a Tax Stud! -
As long as the grandmother does not deduct any of the mortgage interest, the granddaughter should be able to do so, no? Since the granddaughter is actually paying the mortgage she should be entitled to deduct the interest. In the event it is questioned you can provide the proof you speak of and that should provide justification for the granddaughter deducting the mortgage interest. Unless I'm missing something??

Maybe a call to Tech Support?

ATX 1040 Line 5 Social Security Worksheet is not correct

Well at least the response was pleasant enough. That's a start. They may not be correct but at least they were nice. -
Joe...any idea on how receptive they are to suggestions placed in that forum?

Check out the iPortal that CCH offers: https://taxna.wolterskluwer.com/firm-management-and-workflow/ifirm/portal It's a straight forward, fairly easy to use, tool that allows you to securely exchange information with your clients. I used it last season and will be using it again this season.

I use Bitdefender and Malwarebytes. No issues with either of these programs within my environment. All my programs seem to get along with one another and there don't seem to be any hiccups.

Can someone using eSign share the price for that product? -
Who in this group, uses portals to send documents to clients?
Yardley CPA replied to Jack from Ohio's topic in General Chat
I use the CCH iPortal. It's my understanding that it meets the "secure" standard. Seems basic for the most part and allows me to place copies of the clients returns along with the 8879's in their personal folder on the portal. The client can then access their folder, review their information, print and sign the 8879's and place them back in the folder where I can access them. Based on this information in this post, I'll need to look into CCH's eSign. I assume it would link with the iPortal in some way? Will need to look into it further. -

I have a Lexmark T644 that has been an absolute workhorse for me. Prints 50ppm in black and white. Toner lasts at least two tax seasons and I do a significant amount of printing. Not sure it's part of Lexmarks current line-up but it can be purchased on the market. -
Did you receive a 1099-INT from the bank, mailed to either your home address or your clients home address, reporting the interest? While I'm not 100% certain, I am 99.9...you report that interest income on your resident return.

This forum, this site, is invaluable to me. I've come to highly depend upon those who give of their time and expertise and answer the many questions that are posted here. I also appreciate all that is involved in technically allowing it to happen. I gladly contribute. While I'm not looking for any recognition of my contribution, I personally do not feel the "Donor" tag is inappropriate. If the decision is made to remove it fine. If the decision is made to keep it, in my opinion it should reflect donors from the current calendar year. Maybe the Donor tag is reset on 1/1 each year? Again...just some thoughts to consider and obviously there are many scenario's that a "reset" would not be beneficial....especially to those who donate late in the year. Eric...can the "Donate" designation be reset on the one year anniversary of the donation?

I noticed it as well. Not sure what it is.

I live right outside Trenton, NJ in the suburbs of Philadelphia. New Jersey is enacting a new law which will find it's minimum wage rise to $15.00 by 2024. On my side of the Delaware River, the minimum wage is $7.25. I think $20 per hour is reasonable and, in your case, falls right in line with what Pacun suggested.

Unable to open return after restoring from backup
Yardley CPA replied to BrandonPruitt's topic in General Chat
It's always nice to hear a positive story. My dealings with ATX Support have been predominately positive and I'm happy to see Black Bart had a similar experience in this case. -
Wondering if anyone chooses not to purchase E&O Insurance. I'm not looking for opinions on the decision not to carry it, just wondering if some choose to go without it?

Did you happen to save/backup the data files for each year? If you did, you could just restore them after you download the program for each year.
