  1. and the really dumb part is is you cannot answer these questions for your client because you have no idea where he lived in 1985, and you cannot just say - i haven't filed yet.
  2. is this legit? My client received a letter dated March 20 2015 regarding his 2014 tax return. We have not filed his tax return yet. The letter refers to a "soft inquiry" which i have never heard of. I have not seen one of these letters before and I am leery to input any info on a website that may or may not be legit. I have never heard of the IRS asking for you to visit a website to input info. I have only ever seen the IRS ask for info back by mail unless you are working with an agent directly. We have the client's return ready for efile, with his signatures, and now I am afraid to efile it. Anyone else seen this?
  3. Dear client - your sales tax reports and your income tax return should at least remotely reconcile. You cannot show NYS sales tax that you only had $100000 in sales when in fact your purchases exceed that 3x. What don't you get that? When you get audited, I will charge you more..........and that is my only hope...........In the meantime, you just keep on telling NYS sales tax whatever you want and do not bother to heed my advise. I will report to NYS income tax what your sales deposits were. And we'll just count the days.
  4. sent you a message......
  5. i seem to have some sort of LOSER magnet outside my door.
  6. "but it was a loan......".........yeah - but you didn't pay it back........... "but why should i have to pay tax on my own money....." yep
  7. Dear Client - We give you a complete copy of your return every year. And for the past 15 years i have been here at this location, i have forked over copy after extra copy of returns for clients. But since this is the FIFTH TIME you, dear loser, are asking for another copy, you are going to pay for that time, that paper, and that ink!
  8. 34 here. But thats about 50 degree warmer than it has been most of winter!! Lots of grey snow mountains to get around, but me and the dog got out for a real walk! :D :pop:
  9. I have done just that in past and have not had any problems.
  10. Dear client: Please stop calling me to tell me that your state refund has not been processed yet. I cannot control the state office, and I do not know when they will process it. I have told you on 2 previous phone calls that the return is shown as accepted and that the state does call for up to 8 weeks to process your return. I do not care that your brother-in-law already got his refund, but I will remind you that he came in and PAID me about 3 weeks sooner than you did so therefore his return was processed about 3 weeks sooner than yours.......Are you really that desperate for the money? then please go to the rapid refund people next year!
  11. that never occurred to me. I wish i had known that yesterday. Thank you so much. I will keep that in mind.
  12. Always one. Just when you hit the button, they call and say - "oh - i forgot to tell you....." :pop: :pop:
  13. I bought one of those ball chairs (they are actually just an exercise ball sits in a chair with a hole in it.) I had a teacher friend that worked sitting down all the time because she worked one on one with kids. I keeps your legs from hurting so much. I like the idea of the standing desk. Give us a link where you bought it.
  14. I had separating clients for 2 years and they fought and fought and dragged their feet so long just to be vindictive, i was a stressed out mess. the 3rd year they came back, still not divorced i told them to go somewhere else. Its not worth the mess or stress. I say "fire" them now.
  15. ok - that thought had crossed my mind about 3:00am this morning. That's what I will do. thank you! :) :pop:
  16. client received 1099B for unclaimed funds from nys for his mothers estate - which was closed in 2010. The amt is 2792 for stock in Met life. So the basis would have been at date of death...which would have been 1500 ~ 1600 ....... :dunno: file?....i guess i have to. i don't want to.
  17. wow - we're going to be like those people on the news using their snowblowers to blow snow on each other while they fought over driveway or sidewalk space. I had the exact same situation. Shopping around. When he called back, i suggested that he continue to shop around that I was not interested in playing pricing games. It is what it is. Does he drive back and forth between McDs and BK to see who has the cheapest burger?
  18. i'm located near a movie theater too.... :pop: :pop:
  19. agreed. doesn't matter what they admit, tax treatment is the same.
  20. thanks! Seems logical
  21. Happens every year. Someone always disappears from ATX in to a deep black hole. Just an odd phenomenon :pop: . We will recreate and do him again. I must have deleted him somehow, but......it's just weird. Like i said - at least 1 per year.
  22. I will be down. New competition in town (EG tax) and i am also waiting on corps! Very slow getting to me this year. Haven't decided if this is a good problem or a bad problem. Sometimes I'm happy to see clients go.
  23. Husband and wife elected to file as joint venture in 2013. Now they don't want to file as JV because he basically is only one doing this business. So last year we filed 2 schedule Cs and basically split the income and expense. Any red flags - or elections we need to make - if we go to just one schedule C :pop:
  24. I suspect he had been issued a warning before they came in and "stole" all his guns.
