using personal account to pay someone else's tax
schirallicpa replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
this is not payroll - just income tax. But I think I'll just go to the post office and get a MO Just wondering if anyone had gotten bit before -
I know, I know - probably a dumb question. Guy paid me extra cash to just "take care of bill for him" and I was considering just drawing from my account. But the little devil on the other shoulder says its a bad idea to put my info on his tax account. What if the guy has a lien in the future and the IRS finds my account. has anyone else ever done this?

Ok - I get it . The estate returns on the PA side don't reflect entirely how the Fed taxes stuff. So the Estate took the Fed tax on the capital gain, but PA has to push it thru to individual. There - answered my own question. Love this forum.
-
I would also think that the PA K-1 would show the dividends.
-
And it may very well be from the sale of an asset. (I think the stocks that create the dividend income.) But there is no sale /schedule D info on the Federal. Hence my question.
-
The Federal K-1 shows only 2900 of dividend income. The PA K-1 shows on line 4 income of/from estates or trusts, 94000. Line 6 shows PA nonresident tax withheld of 2895. No mention of dividends. Yes - this was a PA estate and my client is the only beneficiary. I expected the K-1s to be similar. Can anyone enlighten me on possible difference before I contact this attorney who has already dragged his feet until today.

And then late file a 1099 for the rent? I had one of these problems last year.

when when when will we be able to efile 1040x
schirallicpa replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
I did not know that.... I thought we were still paper filing all amendments. Good to know. I'm struggling with a very complicated 2017 1040x right now. -
Actually, I think its the state that I want to efile worse. NYS wants the kitchen sink attached. Paper up the wazoo!

I am waiting for a grumpy older lady to send back the signed efile form. She has already received her executor fees and doesn't want to do anything more. She lives a distance away so the forms were mailed to her. The attorney does not have authority to sign as executor. I'm kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place. Not sure how to convince her to sign papers and don't know what alternative I have.

Not sure which one is embarrassed. But thank you BobH for sharing form # and phone #

Many of my clients owe 1099s only to me. What do you guys do in these situations. Do you tell them they need to do one? Do you just do it for them? I feel like these guys get kinda bent out of shape if I'm telling them to comply and its only me I'm charging them for. When will the 1099 amount ever go up?

drake users ??- hows the billing portion? How 'bout Medlin?
schirallicpa replied to schirallicpa's topic in Drake
I tried to download the medlin trial version of AR but got a windows error kind of message and could not open it. -
I'm going to switch to Drake this year. But I am also looking for a new billing system. For years we've used an excel template that worked for the secretary that I had, but since she left this spring, I want to find something a little more user friendly. So was wondering if Drake had any built in receivables, income tracking system with it. Am also looking at the Medlin program and wondering if any one has used that?

If an accountant's wife cannot sleep, what does she say? "Darling, could you tell me about your work." Why accountants don't read novels? Because the only numbers in them are page numbers.

NT - new neighbors loiter outside my door
schirallicpa replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
No - I'm in western NY and there is no such ordinance in my town. I will take your sign though! thanks. I again spoke to the manager and wrote a formal complaint to the manager of the building as well as the actually owner of the building. He has told them on numerous occasions, but as soon as no one's paying attention, they are back out there. UGH. -
I moved into this new place (not new - old place actually) in the fall of 2015. So this will mark 4 years in September so I feel that I'm "established" here. In April some new people moved into the apartment upstairs. It's a fairly small apartment and there are 4 of them, which includes a toddler and a baby. In the front, where you approach my door, their door is right next to mine. There a small exterior alcove there as you enter, where the mailboxes are mounted, and where I have a rug to catch some winter mud. But it's not really a very big spot. And these people are in it all the time. Smoking there cigarettes and vapes. They put the baby in a stroller that sits at the very bottom of the stairs just inside their door and they sit out there and smoke. I AM SO ANNOYED! I have said something to the landlord twice. And each time I thought the problem was fixed. But after a few days, they are right back out there again. They are not real loud or obnoxious. They are not friendly. But they just stand around or sit around and smoke. Let alone the butts in the flower/tree area near the street. UGH! I don't know what to do about this one. I don't want to be a total jerk, but - come on!

NYS Taxpayer has ins thru NYS dept of health. We have no idea what his log in credentials are, and due to all the laws on privacy these days, cannot access his stuff. He was single, no wife, no kids, so no one was involved who would know. Recently received the IRS letter looking for 1095 A and 8962. So - not sure what to do on this one. I will send letter to NYS with executor's signature on it. Not sure if they will help or not. Does the IRS get the 1095A - can they help themselves with this? Just sick of summer notices.....
