In NYS we do not forgive loans. We tax them. That being said, I assume NYS will make this an add back so they get their tax on an S-corp or partnership. Any word on this for sure yet?

Do I still have to paper file a late 2019 return. Is there any tiny chance we can efile late returns yet? I really don't want this person going in a pile.

So whats the bookkeeping now to get the loan off the books when it's forgiven? Is it still income on the books and then a Schedule M adjustment to remove from taxable income?

My client had an unusually good year and needs to increase the Jan payments. But these were set up in efile in April and are already set. Is there any changing this or do we just go online and made 2nd Jan payment?

I just don't want to do this again...... I haven't updated my software yet. I haven't sorted thru 1099 people yet. I haven't even purchased some jugs of water for the fountain. I don't have any motivation. I don't have a secretary - maybe that would help. This season is just going to stink!
-
I was considering doing that but was afraid eventually the paper one would be processed and gum things up more.

I don't know who to trust and am wondering if any of you use a PC cleaning software?

I have a client in NYS that is now doing some sales in PA and needs to collect and remit in PA. Other than that application, is there anything else we need to do? Do we need to register his business? Or get special licenses? He is a SP LLC who repairs and sells farm tires.

why can't we have a voucher payment for the 1120
schirallicpa replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
grumble...mumble..... I guess I figured it would be easy to go online and set up and be done. We'll wait. My client was great about it. He filed and paid in March last year - 2019 for the 2018 return, and IRS sent him a notice that he didn't pay. So he figures even if he pays on time it gets screwed up anyways. -

but we have to wait for the super secret PIN to come via snail mail. Why they can't just email it to you or give you a pop up screen to print when you get it - like when you get your EIN. -
so frustrating - the direct debit failed becasue of some efile timestamp error that I cannot get to work. So the other option is eft which requires passwords and supersecret PINS. Can't we put a damn check in the mail any more?!

We will lay low. Thank you

I filed 2017 online in early 2018. Then they decided giving me 50 bucks to do this for them was too much to handle and told me they would take care of it. So 2018 and 2019 were not filed on time. 2018 is the year that I'm trying to figure out what to do. I just filed the 2019 online but couldn't do a 2018.

I'm finding conflicting information on this. A former np client called after they received a notice for not filing 990N. I just went online and filed their 2019 990N, but it won't let me go to a prior year. Seeing some information to paper file a 990N and some info to efile prior year. And seeing that IRS doesn't care if you miss a year. (Which is hard to believe.) Client says the letter does not indicate penalty for not filing but basically asking if they went out of business.

Is there a formal election process or form if you are a early recipient and can choose either 8 or 24 weeks. Does the bank need to be notified which you choose (other than when you report). It seems kinda wide-open.

Software to Gather, Assemble, and Deliver Tax Docs

I too am looking at more electronic management and esignatures. I have a really dumb question. I have always used ATX. ATX is owned by CCH. Are the esign and fileshare programs available to ATX users? -
I take that back - their resident management software is also handled with SOS.
-
I have a client that is a care facility for older folks - not technically a nursing home, and they have used a software for years called SOS that is apparently no longer going to be available after December. They handle payroll inhouse thru an electronic time clock that records time directly to software (and requires approvals) to generate weekly payroll. It also has an accounts receivable module and accounts payable module that use extensively. Used to have a depreciation module but dropped that a few years ago. I've worked with them for a number of years and they have always had a good handle on the financials with this software. Their resident management software is separate. Now we are looking for something to replace it, and I am just throwing this out to the forum to see if any one has clients that use a good GL system?

I have a new person working for me, and she can't stand how archaic I am. She's been working in a doctors office with patient software that has all of there info in one place onscreen. So we are looking into finding something similar. Where the tax return is stored, the misc letters are stored, the billing is stored, the drivers license is stored, the documents they bring in are emailed to us or scanned into here. ETC. What programs to my fellow tax preppers use?

I was just trying out an efile for an amended return as well. I wondered if there would be a different 8879-type form for 1040x

I can bake a good cake. I'll come visit. At least we're not running to the post office. When I started in this insane business I was the runt at the firm. There was one post office in the area that would stay open til midnight on the 15th and guess who was appointed the midnight run? We would have trays of envelopes to go. That's also when the extension was until August 15 and we had to turn around and make up another pile of extensions for the next round.
