  1. Rumors started flying about potential problems earlier this week and there were whispers that the Gopher State might stop accepting TurboTax returns as a result. Those rumors were confirmed by the Minnesota Department of Revenue which posted the following notice on their website: http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2015/02/06/minnesota-stops-accepting-returns-filed-with-turbotax-cites-fraud-concerns/
  2. Very nice KC....I wish some business people I had through the years, had such a map. But!...Some may have never understood it.
  3. It's not that I haven't heard it before, Jack...But it still hurts the old ears, even after doing this for 35 years. Good advice though...I'll go to Block tomorrow and get a fist full of cards.
  4. Four forms last year.............Seven forms this year.......... Why is your price higher this year??? We've been coming to you for three years..... We may have to look elsewhere next year........ I think it's time to retire...

  8. Max, Your assumption would be correct. They need to produce their records for each year, and 2009's records could also assist you in completion. This may also help you............. http://www.irs.gov/irb/2004-22_IRB/ar17.html Good luck.
  9. WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned taxpayers to be on the lookout for unscrupulous tax return preparers pushing inflated tax refund claims. This scam remains on the annual list of tax scams known as the “Dirty Dozen” for the 2015 filing season. http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/Inflated-Refund-Claims-Remain-on-the-IRS-Dirty-Dozen-List-of-Tax-Scams-for-the-2015-Filing-Season

  11. The IRS announced Monday that it will provide automatic penalty relief for taxpayers who, when they reconciled advance payments of the premium tax credit they received for 2014 (which were paid as premiums directly to insurance providers) to the amount of the credit they are entitled to on their income tax returns, find they owe additional tax they are unable to pay or owe a penalty for underestimating the amount of tax due (Notice 2015-9). http://journalofaccountancy.com/news/2015/jan/irs-advance-payments-penalty-relief-201511697.html

  17. Tom, From Pub. 463 To meet the directly-related test for entertainment expenses (including entertainment-related meals), you must show that: The main purpose of the combined business and entertainment was the active conduct of business, You did engage in business with the person during the entertainment period, and You had more than a general expectation of getting income or some other specific business benefit at some future time. Business is generally not considered to be the main purpose when business and entertainment are combined on hunting or fishing trips, or on yachts or other pleasure boats. Even if you show that business was the main purpose, you generally cannot deduct the expenses for the use of an entertainment facility. See Entertainment facilities under What Entertainment Expenses Are Not Deductible? later in this chapter. You must consider all the facts, including the nature of the business transacted and the reasons for conducting business during the entertainment. It is not necessary to devote more time to business than to entertainment. However, if the business discussion is only incidental to the entertainment, the entertainment expenses do not meet the directly-related test.
