I used to, and still sometimes do, sell MaryKay. I was never told the info that Janitor Bob's sister was fed. Perhaps her recruiter was over zealous, but I do not believe that MaryKay would endorse any thing that Janitor Bob relayed. It's been quite awhile since I went to any kind of MaryKay meeting, I only went to one for new consultants, but everything I was given, everything I read on their website made sense regarding tax issues. Again, I do not believe that this is a concept endorsed by MaryKay, but I do believe many senior consultants (who are working their way to a car or other prizes) might be willing to tell you anything to get you to sign on the dotted line. I like their products, I like the way they work with their consultants (I do believe they want you to make a profit), but there is a lot of hype that I just can't go along with and as such I would never make a good consultant. I did it mainly for the discounts! Just my two cents worth! Deb!

To "Hold" or "Not to Hold" -- That is the question!
Tax Prep by Deb replied to Yardley CPA's topic in General Chat
In California it is a problem because they do not require the social security number of dependents on the return. So there has been situations were an error was made on the federal, but because the state is less sensitive they accepted it and I had to ammend. Doesn't happen often, but this is a good way to prevent it. Deb! -
Also, has his filing status changed? That could also affect the payback. My clients have been bringing in the letters they received from IRS. But in the case of a husband and a wife, each received a letter claiming the payback of 250.00. Just a thought! Deb!

Thanks, I just needed some reassurance! Deb!

But what about not having a DCN or even my EFIN number showing? Deb!
-
Should I have been assigned a DCN? Mine in showing absolutely nothing. It didn't ask me for my efin #. Seems kind of strange to me. Deb!

This is the first time I have ever attempted to e-file 1099's. I have created the 1099's needed, included the transmittal form, created the e-file and transmitted it. I've noticed that nowhere do I have a DCN number, and it has stayed on transmitted to ATX for 5 days. Is this normal or did I miss something? Thanks in advance, Deb!

IRS didn't have them on hold, TRX held them till allowed to release. This was a choice given by IRS to the software providers, ATX chose not to have us send them until it was O.K. for them to send to IRS. Anyway you look at this, this problem is not with either software provider, it goes back to Congress and their games that were played at the end of the year. Deb! PS I've done my share of complaining in the past with ATX, however I do believe in giving credit were credit is due. ATX has been very good for me this year, with no problems, and because I signed up for their e-mail alerts, they are doing a great job at keeping me informed.

I've been checking my ack's several times today, and as of the last check all my returns from yesterday are now transmitted to agency. Now I just have to wait for acceptance or rejections. So any of you that experienced what I stated on the first post might want to keep checking, because the probably have been sent. Deb!
-
Diane, Keep checking throughout the day. I had several this morning that were still showing tramitted to EFC but have now all changed to transmitted to agency. It is possible, that yours may be held because of the limit IRS has placed, but it could also be they have been sent and you acknowledgment just hasn't updated. I've checked my ack's three times so far and each time a few more are posting as transmitted. Hope this helps, Deb!

What is the status in your e-file manager. Does it say transmitted to agency? or to EFC? I had several that now show sent to agency. So I'm assuming it means that have been sent to IRS. Deb!

Anyone else noticed this. I created and sent thirteen e-files on the 15th, early in the day. Then I created around 5 in the afternoon. This morning my acks show 8 have been sent, but most of these are from the afternoon, I would expect first in first sent, but that doesn't appear to be what is happening. In fact the last one I sent is among the ones already sent to agency. Deb!

Last year we had the ability to claim the sales tax on a new vehicle through schedule L, to use schedule L this year your dates are correct. Last year we had the ability to claim the sales tax on a separate line on schedule A. To use that same line this year your dates are correct. In the past and is true again this year we can deduct sales tax paid on a vehicle purchased in 2010 on the line for State Tax deduction (Schedule A, sales tax deduction worksheet). Just use the bunny hop feature to open the worksheet, scroll down towards the bottom and you will see a spot to enter sales tax for certain purchases. So the difference this year is that last year you could deduct it even if you didn't itemize, this year you must itemize, and then it is the better of state taxes paid or the sales tax deduction. Hope this helps, Deb!

Thanks KC. I was pretty sure it was based on what I had read and such, but I'm a one person office and it helps to bounce off thoughts with others. That's why I love this community! Deb!

I have a client who is an associate pastor at his church. He doesn't receive any kind of money for his work. His question was the use of his personal vehicle in connection with church functions, whether the mileage can be deducted as a charitable mileage deduction contribution. He lives approximately 45 miles from his church, he does conduct some church services, he is also involved in many outreach programs thru his church and travels to various locations. We discussed that the services he attends, (where he is not the pastor) would be for his benefit therefore not deductible, but what about if he is teaching a class, or heading a group meeting? Anyone with experience in this and who would like to chime in, I would greatly appreciate it. This guy is one of those who truly is up and up but would like to avail himself of any tax break that he legally can claim. Thanks in advance, Deb!

Please post your experiences with e-file today

Yes form 5405 can be e-file if the only reason is to pay back. All new claims must be submitted paper file, however the payback can be e-filed. Deb! -
Yes, But it will only work if you are simply paying back. It will not allow e-file if anything is included on page 1. Claims for the credit must be paper filed. Deb!

How about Acknowledgements? Perhaps it's still a bit too early? Deb!
