  1. No limit, and it really wasn't a sell. It was more like a way to allow the dad to retire gracefully and yet still know that his clients were being taken care of. When the sale was first mentioned I discussed with my client and advised against purchase because there really was nothing other than clients and no guarantee that the fathers clients would stay with my client. No assets involved just clientele. The father had severe health issues and my client wanted to help him so this was agreed upon. He received a % of labor charged for all clients that were formally his.
  2. I am getting ready to do 1099's for a client. The only one I have a question about is one that is given commission checks. My clients father recently closed his business. Instead of selling it to my client they agreed that my client would continue servicing his father's clients and in exchange would give his father a commission on each job. Do I code this as box 3 or 7? The father is completely retired and is no longer doing any kind of work. Any thoughts?
  3. This is not for me, but for one of my clients. They recently purchased some new computers and of course these not longer come with any kind of office products. They only use basic things, simple excel applications and basic word processing. I looked into purchasing Microsoft Office, but it seems expensive especially for just a single user. What do you guys use? Is there any good free ones out there? So afraid to download for fear of viruses, but again the cost of Microsoft is pricey for the number of licenses we need. Thanks in advance!
  4. Try rebooting your computer. You should still be able to use the program, just not updating or connecting to ATX servers.
  5. California is good for those years.
  6. 3 down, 2 schedule C, one very simple 1040A all had medi-cal all year for all members so simple check mark and moved on.
  7. Thanks Judy, I looked but was not able to see any info. But then again I'm working sight challenged this year. Had a horrible case of double closed angle glaucoma that nearly blinded me. I'm able to see, but I have to double check almost everything and I guessed I missed the info on the MyAtx site. Thanks again.
  8. I have a client who came in yesterday. He owns a home and pays PMI. I went to put it on his schedule A however the spot used in the past is still marked reserved. Is it just my form is or is everyone else's marked reserved. I did confirm that it was extended for 2014 but it doesn't look like the form has been updated and the official start is next week. Any thoughts!
  9. My phone has been crazy busy today, and frankly I'm not ready. I've been trying to get over the flu and am so far behind. It's going to be a long long long season I do believe
  10. My problem with most printers is that they do not hold enough paper. I use Canon for that very reason. I can load a complete ream of paper and go to town whereas most others I seen only hold 250. I hate to have to stop and load paper if a client is in my office.
  11. Did this start after installing 2014? Do you still have the disk in the machine? If so remove the disk and the problem should go away.
  12. First time using network install for new ATX platform. Installation went perfect with no hiccups or problems whatsoever. The workstation does seem to be updating the current forms from the server, however last week I installed via download the current program update on the server, (again no problems)but my workstation is still with the old version. Do I manually update the workstation or is it suppose to update via the server? (my server is also being used as a workstation and was set up per the instructions).
  13. They say this will be corrected next year, but we've been promised things before.
  14. Would you please share the answer about the efin number? I've been with them for along time as well but the letter my rep sent me sort of indicated I needed to.
  15. Rita, At the bottom of the 1040 there should be a bar with various tabs, mine says pages & worksheets, then the number 1 and number 2. 2 is the second page of the 1040. I know you've been around ATX for awhile, so I'm assuming that in your case #2 isn't there? Mine is and it has shown up on a couple of my returns that I've rolled over.
  16. I just checked mine and I have both pages of the 1040.
  17. For my clients with no email, I email the receipt to me and print it out for them. Email usually shows up instantly.
  18. Android phone works fine as do my tablets. Only issue is that sometimes the reader doesn't read. Overall though I'm very pleased.
  19. Love it! It's fast and convenient, but the reader can be a bit tricky at times.
  20. I totally agree! Some of what they want is stupid. For example they want you to grant them access to your tax transcript with IRS, then they want a copy of your tax return? Then they want the tax preparer to certify your self-employed? And on and on and on!!!!!!
  21. I had this same question come up on a continued education exam and I answered the question the same as you that the maximum penalty would be $285 and that answer was marked correct. That is the way I read and understood as well.
  22. This discussion is amounting to nothing more than chicken scratch.
  23. California began allowing e-file for past returns starting with 2012. I also e-filed a 2012 return which was accepted and the clients received their refund. Since California is now a part of the new e-file process it is possible, but only starting with 2012. Sorry Jack, this time your wrong. Deb
  24. Trying to get a pulse on the penalty aspect of ACA. Most of my clients will be insured but I do have a few who are stubborn. I'm confused a bit. I know that there is a maximum amount a family will be charged, I believe it's 285. But what if this is a single individual with no dependents? For example his MAGI is $36,000? I know there is $95.00 minimum 1% or $360.00, but is there a maximum for a single person? Tried several different research areas, but only ended up more confused. No one addresses the single guy!
  25. Had one at the beginning of tax season. Called me and I googled the number and found it to be a scam, told him not to discuss anything with them and do not send money because this is not how IRS operates. He was very relieved.
