That's the first thing I did. If it is mentioned in the instructions, I missed it.

I am trying out the TRX 2009 Tax Works program. The new motor vehicle sales tax is shown as an addition to Federal Taxable Income on Line 36 of the SC return. The ATX program does not show this add-back. Which program is correct?
-
I knew I would get an answer on this forum. Don't know why I bothered to call ATX. Thanks a lot.

How do you enter the sale of a Publicly Traded Partnership in the program? Part of the gain goes to 4797, and part to Sch D. I called ATX Customer Service, and they told me to call the IRS. This is a Program question, not a Tax question. I know what the numbers are, and where they should end up on the return, but can't figure out how to get there.

I completed the worksheet, but when I look at the list of E-Filed Forms on the NC EF Info tab, the D-400TC is not listed. What country should I enter if it is listed as "Various" on the 1099?
-
I have a client in NC who has foreign tax reported on 1099's from a brokerage account. In order to claim a credit for tax paid to another country, the instructions say "Attach North Carolina Form D-400TC and copy of other state return". What do you attach to the return? When I create the e-file, the NC D-400TC is not listed as one of the "E-Filed Forms". Do I have to paper file the NC return?

Client converted $59,000 from Traditional IRA to Roth IRA in December, 2009. She will recharacterize $14,000 back to the Traditional IRA in 2010. How is this reported on the return? Do I change the taxable amount ( Box 2a) on the 1099-R input screen from $59,000 to $45,000?

I have a client who has 10 brokerage accounts, some with hundreds of stock sales each year. In the past, I have summarized short and long-term amounts for each account on Schedule D and attached the gain/loss statements from the brokerage firms (40 pages last year) to the return. How can this return be e-filed? There is an error message when creating the file if the Date Sold is "Various" or blank. I guess he can "opt-out" when mandatory e-filing is instituted, but I would like to e-file his returns, if possible.

I use ALS Script, Bold, 14pt. Type in your name first. Save the Master Form. Exit the form completely, and then go back in and change the font style. I can never get it to work with one try. Always have to do it twice, changing font the second time, not the first.

My husband's computer was infected with this virus earlier this year. I tried several programs to remove the annoying pop-up warnings, and the best I found is Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. You can get a free download at download.com. I have had more success with this program than Ad-Aware.

Your second thought is correct. The exemption applies only to the trust.

I have decided----ATX for another year. I have looked at TaxSlayer, TRX $299 and $699 programs, and Drake. ATX, even with all the problems this year, is still the best tax program available for me. I don't do many returns, but I still want a professional output, even if it's only for family. I'll look again next year to see if these other programs have improved.

I was not happy with ATX support and slow Acks this year. MAX is pricey for me (semi-retired, and doing only 50 returns), but I may have to stay with it. I have downloaded the TRX and TaxSlayer demos, and don't like the print options in either, and definitely don't like the questionnaire input in TaxSlayer. I used a program called "Revo Uninstaller", recommended by PC World, (Google it for a free download) to uninstall TRX. It used the program's uninstall program, and still found 7,000+ registry entries and 600+ files remaining on my computer. TaxSlayer slips under its radar and has no uninstall option. You can remove it using the Control Panel "Add or Remove Programs" feature, but I think the only way to completely remove it is to create a "Restore Point" before installation. I am still looking for a program that will do individual, business, and fiduciary returns, with some W-2's and 1099's, at an affordable price. DonnaA

In the South ....... 24. A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road. 25. "Jaw-P?" means "Did ya'll go to the bathroom?" 26. Backwards and forwards means "I know everything about you." 27. You don't push buttons, you mash them. 28. You carry jumper cables in your trunk for your own car. 29. You only own five spices: salt, pepper, Texas Pete, Tabasco and ketchup. 30. Fried catfish is "the other white meat." 31. You don't need no dang driver's ed. If your mama says you can drive, you can drive, dag-nabbit.

The six 1099's I filed February 17 were finally "Accepted" this morning. I am still waiting on a 1041 filed February 6.

I guess I need to be more patient. This is my first year e-filing 1099's with ATX. In prior years I used another software program, which was more user-friendly. After entering company information only one time, you could create W-2's and 1099's, and e-file directly with IRS and SSA. It's also my first year e-filing 1041's and 1120's. Corporate filings have gone smoothly, but I have received no acks for 1041's.
-
I finally received acks on some 1099's filed three weeks ago, but have some filed one week ago still in "Validated by EFC" status. Am I the only one? I've tried to synchronize with ATX, as instructed, but still no acks. As usual, emails to ATX go unanswered after an initial automated reply.

Does taxpayer (or spouse, if filing joint return) have other earned income (W-2 wages, or other SE income?) If so, they can use Section 179 up to the amount of total earned income, even if it creates a loss on Schedule F.
-
I agree with "Booger." Discard the Form 2220, and include the penalty amount on the proper line. Or e-file now, without paying the penalty or including the 2220, and wait for a bill from the IRS. Don't count on ATX getting their act together anytime soon.
-
Thanks for the answer. I think I'll paper file those returns. I filed one 1041 on February 6 (no balance due) to check when ack comes through before filing any more. Still waiting for something besides "Validated by EFC" status. I have never received any answer, other than automated ones, to emails I sent to Customer Support with problems or questions.

I have several balance due 1041's that I would like to e-file, but I don't know how to make a tax payment. These trusts have no checking or savings account for direct debit. Does the fiduciary send a check with a signed 8453-I, or must the return be paper filed? Also, has anyone received acknowledgment that an e-filed 1041 has been "Accepted"?

Eli, I guess I don't have your "magic touch." I keep trying with IE, but no luck yet.

I have been trying to connect to support.atxinc.com all afternoon and continue to get a "Server Error in '/' Application" message. Is it just me, or is the website down?
