  1. I'm using the ATX 2012 PDF printing and it's working very well, and very fast. Hey, I did two very simple returns yesterday before I boneheadedly locked myself out of the admin function of the program (I can still prepare as my assistant though, but I can't file anything... ) Part of the issue is just getting used to the program. Usually by this time, I've been playing around in it with my own return for a month or two, and have printed out several simple returns. The print manager is very different from past years, but I think if I had watched the training video, I'd be in better shape. Might do that with my assistant tomorrow while I expect to be on hold with Tex Upport.
  2. The problem is I don't think I set up a user name. Just put in the password under administrative. and the logon button is grayed out when I don't put anything in the username box.
  3. Check 'show hidden files' in Explorer. The whole 'Program Data' section is hidden in win 7
  4. Ok, I've been one of the few people for whom the program is working. I've tried to set a password for the program before, but it never 'took'. So I just set up my employee as a 'tax preparer' which has very limited priveledges. I also put a password on 'administrative' but didn't set myself up as a user. So now I can't log in at all except as my employee. HELP!!!!! Tech geeks???? And yes, I finally completed some returns today. And I really really don't want to uninstall/reinstall since the damn thing has worked for me. Although I do have the whole thing backed up in Idrive. restore program to yesterday?
  5. There are a few ATX files being ACKed too as part of the test program.
  6. It's in C:Program DataCCH Small Firm ServicesATX 2012Backup. This might be the 'hidden file'; I can see it in I-Drive (my online backup service), but not in windows explorer. So the issue might be with carbonite. I think if you just have this whole file go to Carbonite, you'd be ok, since it also stores your ACKS and settings.
  7. I did try two today. It took even longer to open the second one, but it worked! I only had two returns for which I've got 'all the stuff' and I have them done and just need the 8879s back to try to efile. I've got to say that once I got the hang of the new print manager, I do think it's much better than the old one. You can print one copy to paper and one to PDF at the same time. It's a bit of a pain to set up the print packets, but once done, at least I know the frikkin' client letter options won't print if I forget to uncheck a box.
  8. Well both of my returns were rolled over, and both printed with the cover sheet. It's in print preferences. The option to add it to new forms in is client communications in preferences.
  9. I've had luck with deleting a form and re-adding it when my client letter and billing invoice went wonky on me.
  10. The return cover sheet gets selected in the print options. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to customize it - I always change it to read 'Federal & State'. See my post above about the 'print packets'. This is a great feature in that you can customize the default settings for what we all want to print - including setting a bunch of the worksheets to 'never'.
  11. Oh, and printing to the ATX PDF printer is very fast. Microsecond fast.
  12. I've been playing around with my 'print packets' which you can customize in the Print options (the button to change them is way down at the bottom of the window). A lot of the 'default' settings aren't what I want, so I've been working at changing them to 'never', like for the W-2 worksheet. Using these packets (you can set them differently for client, filing, preparer, and custom) should get rid of the continual unchecking of boxes for stuff that ATX set as default to print, but I never wanted a copy of. I'm finding a lot of neat worksheets & stuff, like the tax summary, that I never knew were there. One issue is that the 'federal copy for state filing' is a default setting to print and I haven't been able to get that default setting changed, so I have to remember to uncheck that if I don't want it.
  13. Fix: delete rolled over invoice and re-add. Then it worked.
  14. Well, some of my charges populate, like the W-2 & 1099-R, but not the 1040 or Sch E. Hmmm, I'm not charging 15.50 for this return. Better post on the CCH board and maybe we'll get a fix.
  15. I just printed my first return. Watch the defaults-I printed a filing copy by mistake because after closing the print manager, I forgot to check the default copy. the watermark will print on the client copy if you select that in 'preferences' even though it's not showing in the print manager. There is the ability to print a custom watermark which is nice-'draft' or 'proforma' are ones I use. Less stamping required! The print preview is really, really, slow. But it does work. Eventually.
  16. But in Forms, you can easily add the client letter just like in the old days.
  17. Me neither. And if you search my posts from 2009, you'll see asking about Win 7, 64bit, and how the programs responded before I bought my desktop with Win 7, 64bit. When I bought my system, knowing ATX is a resource hog, I bought with future years in mind and got the beefiest system I could afford. 9GB ram (expandable to 16 or more?), the i7 processor, and 750GB hard drive. No fancy bells & whistles, no blu-ray, just a good solid business machine. My old 2005 vintage XP laptop works fine, but even iTunes in it's current version maxes out the processor. Those of you running systems with low RAM & slower processors might want to use this method when buying your new computer.
  18. I'm trying my first print. There is a box in the print manager to check for a cover sheet, so lets cross fingers and see if it prints.
  19. I'm attempting to print my first return. Note: don't click on 'Print Preview'. It's circling and circling and circling. Also, I checked and it seems 2012 is loaded and running in the XP section of Win 7.
  20. Returns with depreciation can't be filed until late Feb. or early March per the IRS. So no, I wouldn't expect the forms to be entirely correct. However, I did see mention of a HY bug in the CCH ATX forum.
  21. Well, RP, since Jack doesn't work for ATX, I'm not sure what your account rep is going to do about his being a smarta$$ or not. He is another tax pro. A lot of us on here are ATX Supreme Masters-it's a joke because of how much we post. Common in online forums. Your grandson made a very rude first post, and his ability to write clearly in English is low. And I have no ideas what legos have to do with software or tax prep. Rude posts beget rude answers, and actually Jack was being kind.
  22. Add it from the 'Forms' tab.
  23. In the Options-preferences-Client Communication settings, towards the bottom there is a way of moving the phrases up or down in the body of the letter. Your defaults must have changed. Highlight the phrase and the grayed up & down arrows should become black and then you can move the offending phrase to where you want it. Must remember to watch training CD! I found this by accident.
  24. I had been using the same word but with a change in the numbering system to reflect whatever month & year I changed it. Maybe it's the IRS that doesn't allow this; I can't remember, so I just came up with a new one. Again. I'm like Tom in that I don't go into the website from October to January, and sometimes not even in October, and the 90 days is a pain. This is the first time that the website wouldn't take the new password I had just set up the next time I went in. Since I'm checking in on their community board now as well as this one it's getting to be a real hassle. At least I know to stop at two attempts and just click 'forgot password' so I don't get locked out.
