  1. Have you tried reopening a return once it's gone through loading and updating all the forms? I have a fully loaded return, and it has always opened slow. When I closed it and reopened it (the forms were all up to date) it opened very quickly.
  2. Maybe since they saw that many of the calls they were getting were of the 'where's the cover sheet' variety (from the quality of the questions on the 'other board' it's either my network isn't working or something user related) they figured no one read the frikkin' manual, and they needed a push to do so. Half the calls (and the inability to reach tech support for those that really need it) could be thwarted if people just read the darn instructions.

    Interview

I second Jack. I've never even opened that feature.
  4. It's a selection in the print manager preferences. I haven't figured out how to customize it yet though-I like it to say federal & state.
  5. The network set up this year is different than for the last bunch of years. Did you follow the installation instructions? I know this may be a simplistic answer, but over on the other ATX board, I'm seeing a lot of people whose main issue is just not reading the manual or following installation instructions.
  6. One issue with the defaults is that 'federal copy for state' is a default print. Uncheck this and you won't get a separate copy. I can't find a way to remove the default from my print packets, but after I print more returns, I might find an answer.

Download from the download center. yesterday evening it only took 4 minutes for me.
  8. And no matter what the issue with the program, the answer is '42'.

Yup, I've done a projection, worked on my own return, and completed two. Don't have that many available to work on yet. Only issue was in my return, my assets in the asset manager lost their 'assignment' and didn't link to the rentals and Sch C. Not too big an issue, but I'll check depreciation on my rollovers. I'm tempted to roll over another return just to see if it works, but I don't have ready to roll, and I don't roll returns until the work is on my desk.
  10. You can customize the Master forms. The difficulty with the cover sheet is that if it isn't associated with a return, it's blank. But you can see the cells, and delete the info on the left and type in your info in the centered cells. The cells for the center print are still there. I tried the customization, but didn't delete the stuff on the left, so it doesn't work yet. I'm a bit nervous about messing with forms right now, and I don't have anything to mail yet.
  11. Kea, I think I need to keep my towel in the office, just in case.

Eli, I was nervous about that too, and chose to download and save from the website rather than from inside the program. Went very quickly, and then clicked 'run' when prompted. All went smoothly, although opening the program was slow as it processed the update, and I was on pins & needles. Good luck!
  13. That's how I moved the files onto my new computer in 2010. I installed all my tax programs from the final disks, and the newest program from the initial disk. Exported the returns for the previous years on the old computer to a flash drive, then imported them to the programs on the new computer. Then rolled over returns as I needed them to the current year's program.
  14. Did you install the program on the server? Or one of the workstations?

It was brought up as a possible feature. I can never remember who my sales rep is, so I need to call up and see if they are indeed offering us this option. I figured this would not be the best week to call however. My fixed assets for my own return rolled over 'unassigned'. I'm reassigning them; a pain since I have 4 rentals, a Sch C with 8829. But do-able. If this is my biggest issue, I do feel lucky.
  16. I already did a projection for clients that needed the FAFSA. Jack's right, they just fill out with estimated numbers and update once filed.

I just downloaded fine; downloaded to 'save' and then 'ran' when prompted. The download was fast, as indicated earlier. I opened my return as a test, and none of my assets are assigned to their proper activities. Yuck. I have 4 rentals and a Sch C with 8829. A bit peeved, but nothing like others are having. I'm with you Jack. I just read the 'install on network' instructions, and apparently a lot of network users didn't read before installing. A lot of the issues with the program (except for the mailing slips) can be traced to not navigating the new program properly. It does come with an instruction manual. I went to the Small Firms User Conference and got to see some of the upgrades to the program, so it wasn't entirely new. I also got to talk with some of the programmers regarding how I used the spreadsheet, and what issues I was having with my same-sex couples. One nice thing is that they were looking at allowing ATX & Taxwise users to PPR ProsystemsFX without paying the PPR fee. I have one return that would run much better in a more robust program, and as soon as I get a minute, am going to call my salesperson to set that up.
  18. I know you said case matters, so I tried ADMIN as well as ADMINISTRATOR and other various permutations in uppercase. I did the best thing I could do- said 'Don't Panic!' and went to a party for the evening.

I'm trying the download and 'Save' right now. I got a prompt for a download within the program, but am really nervous since the program has been running fine for me. It's downloading quickly though- 4 minutes on a DSL connection.
  20. I doubt this is fraud linked, but just another one of the forms affected by the January legislation. It wasn't initially on the list of 'can't file til late Feb or early March', but my guess is that they've since had issues with it. So it's not just ATX (and apparently TaxWorks as well), but the IRS headdesking this season.
  21. Glad you got it working, and welcome to the board!
  22. I think there was a workaround in the Master forms posted on the other forum. I tried it, but it isn't working for me yet, and I don't want to muck around in the program much yet. I'm going to wait a bit and see if CCH updates it. I tend to mail to clients using Priority Mail flat rate envelopes, so I haven't been using the client mail as much. Now the return mailing is an issue for me!
  23. This is probably not an ATX issue, but a Win 7 issue. If you do not check for 'hidden files' in windows explorer, you cannot see the program data files. Look throughout this post for how to find your files in both XP and Win 7.
  24. I'm on the same level as Frannie & Ron. I'm not having extreme issues with the program, and didn't totally freak out even when I locked myself out. I posted here and on the other forum, got dressed and went to a party (while I still can). And voila, the answer was here in the morning. Printing is not nearly as slow as that year when the program treated every page as a new print job (remember that?). Data input is not as slow as when my computer wasn't running enough memory and I didnt know it; several seconds to move between every input box, which is why I think a lot of the slowness problems being reported are system issues and not program issues (1 GB minimum of RAM which means it'll run, but slow as dirt, with a 1GB processor- recommended is twice that much). Another issue is that we didn't have much time to play around with the program since it was sent out bare bones, and with a substanially revamped program, we needed time to get used to it. Last year we got a pretty much complete program by Thanksgiving- of course 2011 is the only year since I've been doing taxes on ATX that Congress didn't make last minute changes, and this year (2012) is the worst yet. So instead of ATX working to tweak the program from November until tax season opened with ample feedback from us, which would have been ok, they've been having to deal with the frikking forms and not having much feedback until we had a minimum of forms we could even try to work with. this can't be easy for them, and it's not easy for us. So I'm going to watch my training video, just so I don't do something stupid again. And the letter is customizable, it's just done as a template, and not by editing within the letter as we are used to.
  25. I got in! It's 'Admin' as Frannie said. I'd been typing 'admin', which is the default MyATX username. And 'Admin' is the only user for administrator. And no hours with Tex Upport. Nice. Thank you all!!!!
