  1. No, not required per se- but necessary if claiming EIC, 8880, or a plethora of other credits or entitlements based on age in ANY software program. And required not only to calculate these forms, but also to efile.
  2. You might have a corrupted 1040 form. There's a process for correcting corrupted forms on this board.
  3. Made me grin too! I always looked at the parts with 'new features', but this year so much is new. You can click to a specific section of the user guide from the table of contents, which makes it even easier to use. I'm seeing questions that were answered in the little booklets that came with the CD! Especially on the other board. What else do you do but read the booklets when installing for the first time?
  4. Have you removed those from the preferences? There's a checkbox to include them with every return. Also, you can add functions to the other user types. I don't want my assistant to be able to efile, so it's not an issue for me.
  5. I had that last night. Do you have the return open? Closing the return seemed to help, after recreating the efile.
  6. I haven't found it either. But I was getting sick & tired of having to uncheck a multitude of boxes on the client letters and billing invoices in previous years. At least now it's only one box.
  7. I'm like Pacun; I installed the disk when I got it in December, rolled over my return, and noticed (as I expected) that there weren't any forms to speak of included. I did holiday stuff, and didn't open it again until the second week of January when I got a request to do a FAFSA draft. Checked in every couple of days to see if I had the forms I needed to do it. I've been running fine, with no issues that aren't user error. Also, I downloaded the 12.5 update from the website AFTER the masses clogged up the download process (late Monday afternoon, pacific time), and then ran it. Didn't use the internal feature. Raven, did you have any issues with the download of the update? Some people seem to have only gotten a partial download if they were trying to do it when ATX was running out of bandwidth. Redownloading & installing seems to have helped some of them.
  8. That's what you'd need to run at the optimum level, now and for at least the next few years. The recommended levels per ATX (included in the nice little booklet you got with your CD) are: 2MB RAM & a 2GB processor. Anything less, it'l run, but sloooowly.
  9. Moose Munch. Ohhhhhhh.......
  10. The calculation for the amount taxable for a Roth distribution is on page 2 of the 8606. Put in her basis, and it should show no penalty (as long as no earnings are withdrawn). No need to put ANYTHING in the taxable distribution box on the 1099-R input form. IRA distributions, Roth or otherwise, never show a taxable amount in box 2.
  11. Answer N/A. It's one of the options.
  12. There is no way I would do tax returns on the cloud. What happens to your data if you don't renew? TaxWorks customers are complaining about not having access to Arkworks if they switch software. And TaxWorks appears to be in worse shape than ATX with their overhaul of their software this year. And the people that went with TRX don't have working software at all.
  13. It's a checkbox in preferences. You check what copies you want the cover sheet to print with. And why always check custom? You're not using features to your best advantage. Even in last years program.
  14. Nah, it's a selection in preferences, client communication. How about this: READ YOUR USERS MANUAL!
  15. granmabee, read the manual on the print manager. Once you set up your packets (except for the damn 'fed for state' copy, you can specify anything you want or don't want to print for filing, client, and preparer copies. It's sweet.
  16. it's just really rude over there-I think that's why I'm getting really short with people when I answer questions. I called them once last year, slow season for something not mapping right. I've rarely called since I've been using ATX. I get most info from here. For slowness, what's the specs on your computer? I haven't had a crash (knock on wood).
  17. For tax mailing or client mailing?
  18. Thank you Jack. I've started posting "have you looked at the manual?" in the other forum. I'm sure that's why the ATX bulletin with the training videos went out yesterday. They must be getting sick of having the tech lines filled with these kind of questions.
  19. Did you try the fix? KC posted it on here. I don't have time to look for it.
  20. Part of the problem is idiots calling for help when reading the manual like Jack suggest would work quickly. I saw a post on another board regarding the 'hidden files' problem-finding his backup files. He was complaining he was on hold for 2.5 hours, when the issue had been posted for days on this forum and the official one. I'll admit I haven't read the whole manual. But my assistant has. And I know to come to this board and now the official one to look for answers before even thinking of calling Tex Upport. Like my lockout issue. You guys got me in!
  21. On my returns it takes a second to show. When I open the rollover manager, at first there are no returns there, but in a few seconds they all appear. although my heart skips a beat at first when I see nothing.
  22. there are fixes for the rollover problems posted on the official ATX board at MyATX. It has to do with corrupted files/forms. Do a search over there.
  23. I just got an ACK from the return I sent a few days ago. Yay!
  24. Oooooh, chocolate.... I'm a sucker for fine dark chocolate....
  25. JRog, like I said on the other post, once you get the frikkin forms loaded and up to date, the returns open very quickly. I always test on my own return; Sch A, Sch B, Sch C, 4 rentals and associated depreciation, 1116, 8829, Sch D, 8582, 4797, CA forms, and more. It opened in few seconds the second time today I opened it. The first time I had forms to update.
