  1. I saw someone over there that was running with 512 MB RAM ( of course complaining about slowness). I'm surprised their computer didn't completely blow! I'm also surprised some of the posters over there can even turn on a computer, much less do a tax return. Some of the questions are just scary, in knowledge and the ability to compose a sentence. So welcome Danny! This is the first year I've gone back 'over there' since we were shut out in 2007 or so. And congregated over here.
  2. It's in preferences. Sorry, I can't remember which tab. Probably under printing.
  3. You're right, you're stuck with actual. I almost always use standard in the first year, especially if the vehicle is older/cheaper. No sense taking a big depreciation bump and then not only have to keep every darn receipt for the rest of the life of the car, and a lesser yearly deduction if your client drives his or her vehicles until they die.
  4. Yes, and they are screwed on audit. The rules are the rules. And how many do you think pay on all their wins, not just what shows up on a W2G?
  5. What's your issue? There is likely an answer here or on the official ATX board.
  6. My first one to CA was rejected because the date signed had to be within 2 days of the date I submitted it. Never had that issue before- I changed the 'date signed' and it went through. I just sent two more today, and one was dated about a week ago, so I want to see if that's still a problem, especially since I hold the state filings until the fed goes through.
  7. The form is from the IRS, not ATX. And it's a frikkin' pain (I do a ton of same-sex couples and if you think the community property split is bad for your return..... ) I'm on an LGBT tax listserve, and we are in communication with the IRS regarding this form and it's limitations.
  8. There's a post up here about it. Has to do with allowing ATX to access stuff.
  9. Did you check your antivirus software? Some aren't interfacing with ATX. check the posts here and the bulletin ATX put out regarding that issue.
  10. My refi asked for my last two year's tax returns. Have fun with the refi. I've been sending paperwork for two and a half months now for an 'expedited' refi with my same mortgage company.
  11. The XXXX's print to mask the client & preparer copy so that no numbers can be written in and paper filed. It's normal.
  12. TaxWorks is also having major problems. They also completely revamped their software this year. And the TRX software is unusable from what I've read in the forums.
  13. I'm using Norton and have no problems.
  14. Sheesh, have you all just tried to add the form to your open return from 'add from'? I'm the only person pretty much in my office, but I've used the security feature since it was available. If my computer is stolen, I'd like at least one level of security before someone can open my tax program. And as the main user, I'm Admin. Always signed in as such, a d new forms are downloading every time I start the program. Also, if the update button on the toolbar turns red, you've got forms to update/download. Click it and watch 'em update!
  15. I had this issue about 5 years ago with ATX. I think it was the print driver that I had to update. But it was a long time ago. Maybe some of the techies can chime in?
  16. Make sure the assets are assigned to the proper rental in the asset entry. Mine came over all unassigned and I had to link them to each rental and my Sch C.
  17. And I'm on my iPad!
  18. I love, love, love my iPad. It goes everywhere with me, whereas I hate lugging my laptop around. I'll have to save the user guide to mine; the iPad is like having another monitor, but it takes up less space. I hadn't thought of that, and I've had way too many PDFs open at once to easily use them.
  19. Well, I have used that for paper state returns, and use it quite often for my same sex couples, since they need a copy of the federal proforma used to create the joint CA return. It's easier to use 'fed copy for state'. So it's not like it's not useful. I'm just used to having to check the box when needed, rather than uncheck when not.
  20. I started a new EZ last night and it took forever to load, then realized my return was open too. I will use the multiple returns for my RDPs where having 3 returns open, no matter how slow, is quicker than constantly switching between three different returns.

    manual?

Under 'Support'. Right after Program Help (also useful), Government Instructions, Quick Tutors (again, also useful), and Release Notes. User Guide.
  22. TIP: If you can see the 'Program Data' file then your hidden files aren't hidden. Like in Margaret's case above. I believe it's something you can choose when you first boot a new computer. or something-mine weren't hidden.
  23. Ooooh cool! 2006, That's when the refund indicator first showed up in the program, but I never used the tax summary sheet until this year. I'm liking it, but adding new forms to every return is a pain.
  24. I use the stock letters. I've only printed one sofar, didn't really like the look-I dislike Ariel, but.... Maybe I'll tweak it a bit later. Just got my first RDP return in, and my issue is whether I'll be able to efile these returns yet. And the form the IRS created this year to do these is CRAP, and doesn't flow or populate from the rest of the software. And this isn't an ATX thing, Lacerte doesn't tie to the new form either, and isn't planning on doing so (per my lgbt tax listserve). So, I have a working program, but more issues than just whether I like the look of the client letter.
  25. I'm not suggesting anyone read the 470 pages all at once. But looking for an answer there, or at least reading about the stuff that's changed is a good first place to look. A click on a topic in the table of contents takes you right there. Or even using the 'help' button. I'm really used to doing this with Microsoft Word, and doing a search in the index.
