  1. Hi, I have a client that got a refund from Hawaii, and of course they don't have the 1099-G. Need EIN & address please! I already checked the HI website, and it doesn't look like they're available there.
  2. Yes. If they expect to make more in the upcoming years, why are you so set on accelerating depreciation?
  3. Last year there were tons of people on that board that couldn't read directions too, so they're not all new users. And a bunch that have issues using search to see if the question has been answered before. I use that board a lot less too.
  4. They may have agreed on lower payments because of the nontax implications. Think of it as a clause that makes it 'intentionally defective'. Btw, you wouldn't need to paper file; you can attach anything as a PDF file now.
  5. I have that issue with the CA franchise tax board. Which is a real pain since that's in 75% of my returns
  6. All of a sudden, the password I have on every return has disappeared. The returns just open.
  7. Use the prior year dep schedule to fix it, if you have all the earlier dep schedules.
  8. I get it occasionally but click retry, and it's fine. Sometimes I might have to click twice. No biggie.
  9. Student loans will do it every time, especially if the mom's income is such that she qualifies for EIC.
  10. Oh, and whatever the form is you file with the return that lists all the foreign accounts if your account balance is over something like 50K. Can't remember the number right now.
  11. Dividends aren't excludable, even if the OP didn't say he lived in the US all year...
  12. Last night after taking a break, I came up to the office and put the iPod on shuffle. Shuffle must have known what I needed because all that came up was killer rock: Tom Petty, Rolling Stones, Mott the Hoople, etc. with a bit of zydeco & world music thrown in for good measure. Got me singing & dancing along into the wee hours of the morning, and got most of that icky payroll tax mess sorted, plus two RDP couples' returns done. A good night after an awful day. And one of the couples I finished up, just came in & signed. even though they were a half hour early and I was still in my pjs. They didn't mind. Now off to deposit those checks & get dog food, and duck some raindrops. And I still have chocolate from my last run for groceries; a box of dark chocolate truffles that isn't even open yet! Whoo hooo!
  13. sure they have to be reported. Worldwide income. I put them on the dividend form with the name of the payor, and uncheck the box that says to add to the payor manager. Haven't had an issue so far....but the one client I have with this issue always goes on extension, so I'm not sure about this year.
  14. I've had one already where they said to report code A pt 2 as well (might have been Fidelity), not code E. You'd think if all the other brokers got it right, Fidelity could. We're not confused (at least not by this) but all those DIY people could have issues.
  15. also, do S-corp shareholders on payroll pay WI unemployment? In CA they don't.
  16. What annual & quarterly forms have to be filed? And for S-corp owner's health insurance, does the state wages match box 1 or the wages without the SE health? This is a total mess of payroll; what should have taken a half hour is yes, now a month late.....
  17. I can't see 'em on my iPad either. I'm learning to type a lot of them because I've been using Messenger a lot and they don't work on my desktop in there, but do on my iPad. figures. I'm so glad all you guys are here. I had a wee meltdown today, and I come in here and don't have to explain anything.....just have to say meltdown...
  18. One of my favorite quotes, Jack!
  19. File a 3115 to correct. In ATX, use the prior year depreciation button. Since it's all wrong, ATX isn't going to like it.
  20. I would have charged more, but much less than the Baltimore firm! I work from a home office too. And my definition of 'took a nights work' is 6-8 hours, YMMV. What's your per hour charge?
  21. He won America's Got Talent last year. I never watch that kind of stuff, but my roommate does. I hadn't seen this one, but the next time he was on, roomie grabbed me and said, you gotta watch this guy! Nevertheless, I got hooked for the rest of the season.
  22. Make sure you uncheck 'add to payor manager' and there's no issues.
  23. Small network. One workstation/server, another workstation.
  24. program keeps auto-adding it to returns though. Grrrr
  25. thank you! 170 MB in Formset Descriptions, 91 folders, 381 files. In the Backup folder itself, 1.41 GB.
