I keep getting this error message when I try to create an efile. I've tried several returns; going to reboot the computer now. Just started getting this tonight. ARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHH

A big part of the ID theft that's been going on in the last few years has been creating fake W2s to create a fake EIC return. This would nip that fraud if pre-matching can be done. Canada pre-matches wage info before issuing refunds. Why can't the US do it?

That's not gonna work if the distribution was in 2013:, which is how I read it.

2004 and 2005 tax programs are not saving client files

I've still got my old computer with the older files on it, but rarely have to go beyond 2008 anymore which is where my new Win7 computer ran well. -
9/15 10/15 - Surprised at how quiet the board has been

I've been out of town a lot; some vacations & one funeral. It was nice to see my cousins again, even if at a bad time. I've been getting down to the grind to get 'em out; one s-corp left to do & a bunch of individuals. I've got my first client in Xero too, and did the certifying class this weekend so I can figure out what I'm doing in the program. -
That's why I take credit cards.

Thanks, Judy. It was solely owned by the decedent and solely inherited by my client, his fiancée. Rental properties in two nonresident states, plus the primary residence in CA. So three probates my poor client is wending through.
-
I'm doing my first estate return in ages, and this one has a rental. So depreciation. Do I calculate depreciation at the same rate as the decedent's return, or does the step up in basis begin on the estate return? I'm probably overthinking this but this is the first estate I've done that's had anything other than a personal residence. And this one has probate in 3 states, so it's been taking a while to close.

Eric- why are there annoying words highlighted in the posts?

Ok, gotta run Maladware again. Damn! -
I've been seeing this on websites and its driving me crazy. Now here too: for example in my recent gas station thread, every time POS system appears in a post, its capitalized and underlined and a different color and if I move my mouse over it a little unwanted box comes up. This crap is driving me nuts and rendering much of what I'm trying to read, well, unreadable. Is this a setting in my browser that I can adjust or is it just some new web thing that will make me go back to books due to its annoyance? Or just surf on my iPad which doesn't have this #$%$ issue?

All BP. I just sent him an inquiry, but the 87, 89, 91 sounds right. I have an AM/PM down the street from me where I buy gas pretty frequently and those numbers ring a bell for me.
-
If its any help, the client just purchased an existing AM/PM store/gas station. So if anyone else has one of these, he's using the existing POS system that BP sets up.

Or getting more than one debit card. The ID thieves have been caught with dozens of debit cards.

This is the first gas station client I've had. Apparently, to get the middle grade of gas, Plus, the station, or pump, mixes Regular with Super to get the proper octane. So I have purchases and beginning inventory for only two tanks, Regular & Super. I have sales of all three. Gas stations use ave. cost for inventory & COGS. How do I determine, on a monthly basis, what the COGS is for the Plus grade? The owner is clueless. I get detailed reports from the point of sale system for everything, including the COGS for the other two grades. I'm doing monthly f/s, but inventory will only be quarterly. Argh! Client is bugging me for May & now June f/s & I can't figure this one out.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO READ THIS, THEN WARN YOUR CLIENTS

I'm with a credit union too. My savings accounts are fairly dormant; one account for rentals only has the security deposits in them and so is rarely touched. I haven't had any notices of 'dormancy' from them. A former coworker had an investment account escheated; it held Apple stock, and she was holding it for appreciation. The last I heard from her she was still trying to get it back. -
Oh no, these are 'food grade crickets' as in the insect. Apparently they are a great source of protein.

I lost my 21 year old last year. I feel your pain at the loss of a Constant Companion. I already had three others though, one of whom sits on my clients laps and demands attention, and two twin lumps o cat that make great foot warmers in the winter (collectively known as 'the fat cats'). Your kittens will provide MUCH distraction from your loss & work! And cheers to you for adopting! -
John, the data entry person is learning the program too, so you've got to account for learning curve. I demoed UT & loved it but couldn't justify the price.

I know there's a lot of Ohioans in this forum! I've a client that just opened a cricket farm in Youngstown. I refuse to get involved in Ohio payroll tax in any way, shape or form, and they will be better off with a local person for accounting work anyways. They will need handholding. I got them when they were primarily working in CA, although the S-corp is out of Wisconsin. I'll warn you, they mucked up their payroll something fierce last year doing it themselves out of QB. Or not doing it, I haven't gotten a clear answer as to what was or was not filed & the last I heard they were straightening out the first 3 quarters with the IRS. I did the 4th & w2s. But they are nice kids with a vision.

I have a linked in account: Joan McHugh Feel free to send me invites! I like the discussion groups for tax pros. Some are better than others.

Here in sunny CA photovoltaic panels have been installed over sections of parking lots, generating power while at the same time creating highly coveted shaded parking spots. Win-win. Panels operate the highway roadside call boxes, parking meter pay stations, and fully run my burning man camp. I know in Scandinavia, roadways have been built with passive solar systems to stay ice free, but (and this is from memory on an article I read several years ago), it involves a system more like a solar water heater. Not electricity generating panels.

Do you have the contribution tagged to the proper taxpayer?
