I was caught up until my assistant came in today and started downloading the portal, plus dealing with all the ones that came in Saturday and yesterday. I did call a client today who thought there was something wrong, and I'm like, no it's just done! Yours was one that had all the info & I had no questions less than a week turnaround.

Does anyone charge extra for delinquent returns?
joanmcq replied to schirallicpa's topic in General Chat
I charge a bit extra for having to paper file the CA returns, and everything is at the current years prices. -
Mom May issue 1099 if Nanny does not rise to the level of employee. We don't know if babysitting was in Moms home or Nanny's.

I'll take your Costa Rica guy. I do several ex-pats, including one of my couples that retired to Costa Rica. And PDF forms sent through the portal don't reek :)

And it doesn't work when many clients don't get investment 1099s or K1s until much later.

My client base is pretty much middle income, from about 50k to 150k. The higher end tends to be two earner couples. Have a few in the 300k range (doctors, nearly all), but just picked up a neighbor who is on SSDI and earns a little as his daughter's in home health care person. That guy I'm happy to compute EIC for. Especially since he managed to buy a house on his limited income!

BTW, the code V means they are NQSOs.

I'm not doing too bad, but I only had my assistant for two days this week and there are a LOT of docs in the portal. I'll be downloading them myself tomorrow or Saturday. I've turned a few around in less than a week and did do my first 3115 for the new regs. None of the S-corps are in. But complicated stuff from clients that usually aren't. But the one that dropped off today has assets that qualify for the safe harbor election. No depreciation schedule! Yay!

Ugh, I updated today and for the first time I got bounced out of the program. -
Depreciate straight line, and don't take any bonus.

How to file Married filing separate in a community property state
joanmcq replied to Tax Prep by Deb's topic in General Chat
You have to override or cut the state withholding in half too. -
Are they ISOs or NQSOs?

My tech guy just called & told me to do a hard boot. I was the second one today with the same problem. So the system is back up. Hope I can get my email.

This has been going on for a couple of hours.

I've seen a ton of Burning Man reworks of the Hitler movie, but never that one!

Damn, how long did it take? I'm still on %}*^= 4 of 19. But I have the supplies I needed :)

Yesterday I rebooted my computer because it was running slow. All fine last night. This morning I see no new emails in Outlook, so I shut down everything (after trying to manually receive) and rebooted again. Now I'm loading 19 Windows updates, and it's been on 4 of 19 format least 20 minutes. Time to run to Office Depot and buy some supplies I need I guess. At least I have no appointments today and my assistant is able to work on the laptop. Unfortunately we can't run payroll from there.

It's not just me then. I don't have seventy returns in my in box, maybe 10, but I can't get myself motivated, even by my empty bank account. My eyes literally hurt from reading on the computer and it gets to where I can't focus. I did NOTHING yesterday. Well I did go to an AA meeting and then tried to go grocery shopping and to the bank, etc. came out of one store and the heavens opened up. I got drenched walking 10 feet to my car and I was halfway there when the skies opened. Could barely see to drive and gave up on the rest of it. Put in a movie and kept saying I'd get back to the returns. Never did. And I still don't know what to do with the 3115 for the first rental client I'm working on. They replaced the roof. Can I expense? I don't know. And I can't remember what % of basis the safe harbor is! and am sick of looking repair reg stuff up.

NT Naveen Mohan - You have my deep felt condolences
joanmcq replied to rfassett's topic in General Chat
I am so sorry for your loss, Naveen. Peace be with you. -
The only one I've done so far got a credit because they overestimated their income. He got sick and ended up only working half the year..

CA doesn't require the Sch A to go with the return, so I don't have to force it, just have to remember to check the box for it to print.

Pleased to See ATX Backup Creates file with client name
joanmcq replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
I peruse my backup report, just to make sure I have all the important stuff checked off for my automatic backup. Just saw all the lovely named files -
Don't know about the NC input because my only NC client itemizes, but for CA, in some circumstances one can itemize for CA but is under the threshold for federal, but to do so, I've got to include the Sch. A, even if it isn't being used for federal.
