I'm just trying to understand this: so client lived in CA until July, but worked in WV all year? Did client work remotely from CA until July or physically in WV but didn't actually move hearth & home until July?

Terry, and please learn also "any returns coming in after XX date, will be put on extension". No if, buts, or ands. Heck, the last few days of the season, I wasn't even filing extensions for any new clients; I directed them to IRS.gov and told them to do it themselves.

So got an upgrade to Advantage for that much, or maybe a bit less. Not in the office, so I can't look at the invoice no Tax book though.

So so sorry Catherine.

NY requires that the NY state wages on the w2 match box 1. It's a PITA because you must have the pay stub, and possibly a whole lot of other information to figure out what is actually taxable to NY. What are the state's involved? NECPA's employer is wrong, and may not have registered as an employer in MO; a big issue in itself. I have a client whose employer FINALLY stopped withholding VA tax on out of state employees. Their old accountant was filing as though the wages were VA source income (and the client lives in FL, so no credit). I got them back over $15,000 in incorrect withholding. Unfortunately two years were out of statute.

Just had clients federal return reject. Files HOH, with dependent, CTC and dependent care credit. Return rejected because dependent care credit for that dependent was taken on another return. Not dependent taken on another return. My client has 80% custody; there is no way the DCC could have been taken on another return without the dependent. Any ideas here? It's only worth $100 to my client, but she also had DCB taken from her check. I guess it's paper file time.

I always try calling the Practioners Line first. Hate mailing stuff. Most of the time I can fax info to the agent while I've got him or her on the line.

Look at the business real property exclusion. If she's rented it the last 3 years, it's not her principal residence.

can i do anything about error on 2011 return

Ask for an audit reconsideration. It was likely a CP2000 notice from way back that if she responded, didn't include enough info or the right info, and went to NOD. On a similar note, I saw a new client yesterday that had a partnership with her husband for his roofing business; she did the books and all of the admin stuff. She left him in August 2010, and he still filed a partnership return for 2010, 2011, 2012 & 2013, issuing her K1s for half the biz income, and reporting distributions she never received. He's been filing MFS on half the income until 2014 when he filed as an SP and attributed all the income to himself. IMHO, the biz defaulted to an SP in Aug. 2010 when she walked away. She hasn't filed since 2009 because she doesn't think she should have to pay on his income. Has anyone ever had to dispute a K1? She is in the middle of the divorce now. Thought perhaps file with a disclosure and then fight it. -
OH hilariously! Look at the comments, one actually seems to buy into the 'sovereign citizen' bunk.

$2500 is about right for a custom website. At least she has some income. -
yes, it's confusing because there is a line in Part IX for investment expenses.

CA 540 - Where is the checkbox to force Std Ded?

I think it's on the data tab. -
Client is a 501(3)(3) that recently went over the threshold and has to file the full 990. this year they received some donated stocks and I'm not sure whether to report them at FMV or at cost. Is there any benefit to one or the other, or instance where one type of reporting is required? Also, I'm a bit confused over Part XI Lines 5 & 7. Investment expenses are included in total expenses on line 1, why are they then also subtracted to get to ending fund balance? If investments are reported at FMV on the balance sheet, then line 5 appears to double dip. If reported at cost, it seems the balance sheet isn't balanced....As you can see, I'm having balance sheet issues. Always seem to with this entity since I have to make a QB adjustment to liabilities, but now the investments are throwing me for a loop too.

I saw this a week or two ago. And they didn't even know (or follow) the 'hogs get slaughtered' rule of aggressive tax prep. Maybe they figured they'd never be audited?

Not a member but I attended the rep boot camp in 2013. I've only done two OICs in my time practicing, but both were accepted!

Does anyone know how long it is taking to process paper returns these days? I've got one that has to be paper filed, and the client is asking about refund times.

I received this video link in my email yesterday and it discusses some of the various IRS scams that are going around right now, even one I hadn't heard of yet. only 20 minutes long. http://www.astps.org/irs-scams/?inf_contact_key=0a8187a3fb1b901da0f74ca7b671f1694caa3637d881123634e778b7fc1f8218 If you don't trust links, you should be able to find it on astps.org.

Before cup holders were common, I'd often keep my beverage between my legs, and everyone I knew did too. This lawsuit was from the non cup holder era. Also, McDs had been warned about serving scalding hot coffee several times before this one. I burned my lips on it once, it was scalding. Would put ice in it just to get it to a drinkable temperature. The lawsuit wasn't that the woman didn't know that hot coffee was hot, it was that it was so hot she ended up needing skin grafts. -
But she is NOT not self employed though, and that reimbursement policy is worth a $100/ day per employee penalty to her employer, which is probably why she just got cash. I wouldn't sign a return with your creative solution.
