  1. File your extensions now while you have the energy to do so. For everyone. Then if you have the energy to complete them, no harm no foul. That way you are covered if either you or your husband have worse than a mild case.
  2. Catherine, I do the same thing! Take off my glasses and put the paper up to my face. This year I got actual computer glasses and they help some with the tiny fonts.
  3. This is the second client I've had with this issue; Fidelity at least has been adding the adjustment from wash sale to cost basis so if I report the way I think I should, the reported gain/loss doesn't match. Has anyone seen this with any other brokers?
  4. I haven’t had anyone die, and forgoed my RMD since I didn’t need it. Stock market is up. Have less expenses since I haven’t gone anywhere. I’m going stir-crazy, but financially I’m fine as are my clients as far as I can tell. maybe I’m just weird.
  5. I have one of these and luckily I started doing their taxes shortly after he retired, so I’m using the simplified method. It reduces the taxable amount slightly each year. If they were reducing the taxable amount by the full amount....jeez that’s wrong! I’m glad that OPM is now calculating the taxable amount.
  6. When I have MFS or RDP returns in a community property state, I override the tax paid line all the time. It has never been a problem. Have one on my desk I'm working on for this year; haven't tried it yet. Fingers crossed!
  7. Ah, Pacun, I have not been affected by Covid. Have not gotten Covid, I've always worked from home remotely. I see very few clients. I was never shut down, because-remote! My husband is my assistant. Lost one (major) client, but it's because he's gotten WAY too complicated and decided to go to a bigger firm. I agreed with him. I've gotten 3 new clients already.
  8. Yes, load the software on new computer first, then export files from old computer B, import to new computer A
  9. I'm not affected by Covid at all. Nor my spouse. Just sayin'.
  10. Ugh, my entire program data file is gone.
  11. I've got blank server settings in all my ATX, payroll & tax programs. Since I just installed on a new computer, I still have the 2019 settings I can copy from on the old computer. Does anyone know if this will work?
  12. I think she can either draw his benefit or her own but not both. At least this is my understanding of the whole mess. But why SS/RR wouldn't add in the 20 years of SS that he paid into at the army base I don't know.
  13. I'm with Lion; I've had a couple of local clients pay me with cash, but most pay with their credit cards through my website. A few send checks, which I don't mind since PayPal takes out quite a bit in fees. I've got to admit, taking the fees for 3 years of back tax returns in cash was kinda nice...
  14. And then there’s CA, with their new health care credit....
  15. I'm only 60 but I feel you! I've already refused to take anyone that's had PPP, EIP (except one existing client and she only got the 10k 'free' loan). My international client is ex-patriating soon. Anyone that quits me, hey it's fine. I figure the computer I just bought will be my last.
  16. I always export the data from within the program and then import it into the same program on the new computer. Just did it for 2019 Payroll!
  17. Ok, I just checked the account the last stimulus went to and the account that was referenced on 2019. Nothing. What's happening? It's not like I need the money, but still....
  18. Got in, thank you!
  19. I'm setting up my new computer and trying to access ATX to download my software. Of course I have to reset my password. So I click the link and.....nothing happens. No email to the account I have linked and I checked the spam, notifications, newsletters, etc to see if it went there by mistake. Waited a couple of hours to see if the email was slow, no email. Does anyone have the phone number for support so that I can call them tomorrow? BTW, I have concierge support if any one has that number.
  20. I did not know this, got a Florida client that may rent their condo when they are traveling. Good to know!
  21. I’ve had Dells for the last 2 computers. I just got a new one because my last one didn’t like it when the power went off & hubby suggested a new one. I’ll be setting it up in the next few days
  22. Tom, when. I got fired from my part time job it was the BEST thing to happen to me! I had same sex couples to keep me busy, you’ve got PPP & all the other COVID changes to keep you busy. I’m not doing any PPP stuff; I refuse to learn it and don’t need the money, which is what a lot of you said with same sex couples 10 years ago. I’ll refer out any that approach me.
  23. JohnH, I paper filed a 2016 trust return (balance due) this summer and the IRS processed the payment but seems to have lost the return! We filed a second copy. You May want to call to check the status of your clients return.
  24. Got a CyberPower today. It’s powering up now. i have solar, but don’t have the battery yet, so the power still goes out. Battery is next year, I think.
  25. We had our power go out today and my husband couldn’t get to my computer fast enough to shut it down. (I was asleep). Anyways, it’s time for a new battery backup. I probably need a 1500 or so; 10 minutes of time for computer & 1 monitor so I can shut it down. Does anyone have a recommendation? I look online and my head swims.
