  1. Lives in Florida, we've never met!
  2. From the guy who called himself my 'number one fan' and was just ecstatice I could take his stuff at a late date and still get it done on time (not a difficult return) sent him a bill for $148. Got a check for $275.
  3. My dogs kept me company all weekend as I weed whacked and then mowed the lawn (well part of it; its not done yet). Lawn was/is so high I had to whack before I mowed as it got a little out of hand this season. Lonely? You need a dog Elrod! And now I have to keep a sick kitty company...
  4. Is pension considered investment income? Just coming in off the top of my head here.
  5. I like the idea of adding a column. I use the 'complete' check boxes in both the efile manager and the return manager, but was having problems making sure I had filed extensions for everyone. I double and triple checked and kept finding a few that slipped through (including one I had filed the state, but somehow had not filed the fed!).
  6. I've got a return that the dependent just won't efile on; SSN isn't matching the master file. Kid has about 4 names and last name is hyphenated. Anyone know how to look it up?
  7. Hey Duane, what part of Sac are you in? Made me sick when NPR was doing a bit about tax and had Roni Deutsch on. As bad or worse.
  8. Well, you do have to know the special rates for per diems and the rules for day-in and day out, and the 80% m&E rate, and it helps to know how to read the sheets the companies give the independents, and that the big rigs don't take the standard mileage rate!!!
  9. I usually start mine as soon as I get the software too; check to see if I need to file the 4th quarter estimate, especially the state one & get the rentals in and my biz stuff in. I agree its a good way to test the software, especially since I've got a little bit of everything...or did until the complex clients starting rolling in...
  10. I file extensions for any that are that close to the filing date. then there is no stress waiting for that ack.
  11. and she'd get a really nasty cp 2000 in a year or so.
  12. Mine went on extension again. I was pretty much done except for charitable and medical, but I had some things I had to figure out with property I own w/ex. he got me his crap in the 3rd week of march. needless to say he's on extension too.
  13. I kept a big box of organic store brand cheerios by my desk. at 9:30pm I finally got a chance to get something else to eat....
  14. The issue is not the checkbox really; its that a joint schedule C was inaccurate everywhere but in community property states. Otherwise, you were a partnership, pure and simple. And a partnership files a 1065, not a Sch C. And unless you are in a community property state, the business is not necessarily owned 50/50; in fact it is unlikely that it is. In community property states, by law a joint business is 50/50. And it isn't the IRS that make the laws, they just follow them.
  15. David, just because its the 'industry standard' doesn't mean its correct. In fact its the non-community property preparers that didn't know what the heck they were doing in regard to that little check-box that in my opinion, screwed it up for those of us that could rightly split the Sch C. Since when is 'everyone is doing it' an excuse for doing something incorrectly?
  16. I did get the call from a client I've been trying to reach for months about whether she was going to contribute to her IRA. I mean really, she brought her stuff in in February. She called to day and I said, no problem, just filed your extension...
  17. They have enslaved human servants. Just like the gentry of old had servants to dress them and do their hair (and I guess English royalty still does).
  18. I've never worried either since the advent of the PTIN. And since all my same sex couples' LLCs are partnerships by default.....
  19. Many of my coworkers are retired as is a lot of our seasonal help. Or should I say, were retired. But since the job allows for part-timers, like me, its a pretty good deal, although I only wish I could retire! God, for 299 that sounds like the old 1040 office program. This year with ATX it not only cost more, but no unlimited efile. I paid about 1100 for MAX. And since I can't seem to get partnerships to efile, biz efile doesn't matter. But I do want to be able to efile 1099s.
  20. I posted this problem yesterday. What fixed it was downloading an update, closing the program & reopening. Didn't even have to reboot. I'm about to print another, let me cross my fingers and hope!
  21. Ok, I just checked. Should be keyed in the 3801 under the 'detail' tab. There is also the 'detail' tab on the D-1. Haven't done a full sale in a while, so I am just looking at a stove disposition on a return I have.
  22. do you have all the CA forms open which deal with passive income/losses? The D-1, the 3885, and the 3801? I think it is the 3801 (CA version of 8582) where the differences are keyed in.
  23. By about the second post I remembered what day it is...and crossed my fingers...
  24. I got my acks back, but I opened a return and everytime I hit the print button nothing happens. I really really really wanted to get some work done tonight instead of #@$%$#^ing with my computer or program! I can print a page but not a return. S#$t!!!!!!!
  25. well, my windows in my office are so drafty I can feel the wind coming right through. But at least Im in CA and cant even begin to call it cold, being from the snow zone originally.
