I just tried to get my acks, not to transmit any returns, and no go.
-
Same here. The efiles say they are transmitted, but no acks. just a few minutes ago. I am already fried and ready for a nervous breakdown. i really don't need this. Joan

I've got 20 or so on my desk, but I work 30 hours a week too. And a lot are RDP returns, so do I count them as 2 or 3 or what? And more coming in all the time.... :(

Maybe he didn't qualify to contribute to a Roth due to income limitations? Just my 2 cents. When I worked for a firm that had really high income clients, had some that made nondeductible contributions every year, even when putting 2K each into an IRA was real chump change to these millionaires. I'm going to bet they are all converting this year! If you doubt it, look at the 5498s & pull some transcripts.

Hardship is not an exception to the penalty for early withdrawal. and points on a refi are never on the 1098.

Oregon has already implemented something like this, I believe. -
I did. My HP is also only a year old, but I guess the model is actually two years old. And I checked for an updated driver and they don't have one yet. I'm using a Universal Driver they have, but it won't run the efax or scan functions. And the spooler has a tendency to shut down sporadically, but I've got fixing that one down pat by this point.

All of your peripherals should have been protected by running through a surge protector as well. I even have my phone line for my DSL through the surge protector. Not having the router hooked up probably did fry your computer.

The only problems I've had with Windows 7 64 bit is that my all-in-one doesn't have the proper driver for it and I can't scan or efax, and ATX 2005 runs fine, but doesn't seem to save the returns, or it saves them to somewhere else and then can't find them again. I had to do a 2005 return and still can't find it, and may have to redo the darn thing one more time to get the CA return completed. 2008 & 2009 run perfectly.

The link was on MSN at least this morning. I read the whole thing. Started his life listening to tax protestors or some other kind of scheme, started his own engineering biz, but was pissed off by the part of the 1976 code revisions that allowed engineers to be classified as independent contractors, blamed everything that ever went wrong in his life on someone or something else (had a big resentment against the government since the government ruined his life) and he lost his retirement over and over again, and so the only resource left was violence. But somehow he still could afford a plane?

whoa. That was illuminating...

No, he can't take losses on Sch D. IRA withdrawals are ordinary income. C'mon people, this is basic stuff!!
-
No, the basis is not the basis on the day inherited. The basis is whatever the sister's basis was. Usually there is no basis. And an inherited IRA has to be rolled into a beneficiary IRA; it can't be rolled into his own.

If the child is providing more than half his or her support with earned income, the kiddie tax doesn't apply.

I don't see where insolvency can't be used on a rental. There is an ordering of applicable exemptions, and reducing the tax attributes may come before insolvency when it comes to a business property. I think it was a bad time for him to marrry.

I do the same thing as jainen. not all are 94257. Differs also in whether the taxpayers is mailing in return & getting a refund or paying. Since I mostly efile, the ones I use the most are for the payment vouchers that go with the efiled return.
-
I have received these. They are the same as the TCMP audits; a line by line examination of all income & expenses. I think the letter is vague and the initial IDR will be by phone since this is so specific to each return. If not represented, or if the tp is represented by someone who isn't that familiar with audits, going over the necessary docs line by line speeds up the process. And the audit is completely random, nothing on the return caused it to be flagged.

Thanks KC. The returns were an utter mess though. So even if AR does no adjustment, do they often report to the IRS in these situations? An IRS audit would be really, really, ugly. I've recommended they amend their federal returns ASAP, by a pro. They are some of the worst returns I've seen that haven't been audited already, and there are three years being looked at. Even 2006 could be opened after the SOL due to significant understatement, IMHO.

I've had some early filers get their refunds already.
-
I have a friend that is on SSI, and she got a 1099-SSA with ONLY the $250 reported on it. (SSI is not taxable). So I would believe the 1099-SSA does include the $250 in box 5.

Oddly enough, the word 'border' is a no-no in the search function. Have an AR audit of Texarkana residents, and from what I've been digging up, it seems ALL of their income is exempt from AR income tax. apparently there was a surcharge in 2003 &2004, but now these folks don't pay anything. Is this correct? If so, why do a three year comprehensive audit? These returns are an utter mess, but if they don't owe any tax, why bother? Or is this going to be a big mess, and likely to get referred to the IRS? KC, you're at bat!

They are the new 540 form. 3 pages. Didn't anyone go to Spidell?

I always get a retainer up front to do multiple back years, especially if we are trying to get in under the wire for a refund. One of two times ever I've been stiffed for work was for additional fees that were over and above the retainer I charged. And that one was getting levied under an SFR that was filed.

May want to be prepared for an audit, based on what I've seen so far as to the scrutiny these are getting. but if he can show assets enough to support himself, and no excess cash or lifestyle...

The SBBT problems have been in the news on sites like Accountant's World for quite some time now, mostly regarding Jackson Hewitt and how they are up a creek since SBBT was not offering them RALs anymore. 45% of their RAL biz was through SBBT. Big news today; in this area we are expecting Block & Liberty to get all the JH business. In fact, in my neighborhood a new Liberty opened in the same strip mall as a JH franchise. I don't offer RALs, so I'm not affected in any way.
