  1. Taxbilly, The client is coming to the meeting. The agent only mentioned discussing the depreciation to my client and said that it should only take about 15 minutes. I will have those schedules with me and if he asks for something else, I can get it. Bonnie
  2. David, I just went on MyATX and it is on my page. Maybe it was a temporary problem. Bonnie
  3. Margaret, I haven't seen anything, because the client has been handling this all himself. He is a truck driver and he won't be home to send me anything until the night before the meeting. The agent called him on his cell phone. I can't even get a POA because he is gone and his wife is now living with a relative out of town because she is ill and can't stay home alone. I know that his schedule C is an issue and his gambling income and losses. The agent questioned why he reported more income than he received W2G's for. They are coming Thursday, so I will know more then. Thanks! Bonnie
  4. Thanks everyone, for the fast replies. I've always gone to the IRS before and the audits were resolved in a couple of hours or less. I reserved the conference room. I don't know what he wants for sure. My client just mentioned depreciation. I haven't seen any of the paperwork, because I hadn't been involved with the audit. I haven't been asked to provide anything. I'll just take the depreciation schedules to the conference. Jainen, thanks for suggesting that I ask if I am being audited. I have always spent quite a bit of time preparing for an audit, but it's much harder this time, because I haven't been involved. I will just go through the return and look for red flags. Bonnie
  5. I know this is probably a stupid question, but is there any reason to meet with my client and an IRS auditor in the conference room where I don't have a computer or just go ahead and meet with them in my office? They are supposedly just coming to discuss depreciation and the agent said that it should only take about 15 minutes. I don't normally feel like I have to worry about anything, but this agent supposedly said at his meeting with my client "something about taking me before somebody" because he didn't think that I asked enough questions about a 100% vehicle usage. The client explained to him that it really was 100% and then he backed off. I did ask the client about it and he said that they have another vehicle that is used personally. I have gone through a two audits in the past few years and never has an agent threatened me personally. I am tending to blame my client, because he didn't want me to represent him and I don't have a clue what he said. They were apparently mad at him, because his wife hung up on them before the audit. (She is very ill, and probably didn't know what she was doing.) I don't know why they would have called him in the first place, unless he isn't telling me everything. I don't feel as if I did anything wrong, but I haven't dealt with this agent and am paranoid about this meeting. If anybody has any thoughts, please let me know. Thanks!
  6. It means they have to pay for the expenses or charge them to a credit card in 2009.
  7. I finished the last one that I was able to Tuesday night and I am now relaxing on the beach down by Clearwater. I still have several to do when I get back. I about killed myself and was up for 40 hours working on everything, packing for us and traveling. I slept great last night. We've never been down here before and my son is really enjoying it. Bonnie
  8. Taxbilly, Someone (I can't remember who) on this board and a couple of others said that they received a 30% discount offer to resign with ATX within the past couple of weeks. Also, CCH took back the earlier discounted TRX packages and is handling the support for the discounted price. I just feel like those of us who signed up in May should receive the same treatment. Bonnie
  9. David, I just went through a couple of these. I don't believe that it will handle the sale for different types of property just through the bulk sale tab. I had to allocate the purchase price to each type of asset (land, depreciable, etc), because they are taxed differently. Maybe someone smarter than me knows another way to handle it. It does work well if you put all of the furniture as one bulk sale, etc. Bonnie
  10. I am really angry that I signed up early and didn't jump ship to TRX or wait until now to sign up. I only got the 10% discount and now they are giving away 40 and 30% discounts. Next year I won't sign up early and even if they don't beg me to sign up again, at least I won't feel like such a moron. I love the software, but I really feel that they should treat their current customers a lot better. Bonnie
  11. I received it also. I'm sure that the IRS is giving out e-mail addresses. NOT! I just deleted it. Bonnie
  12. I'm trying to use it now. I loved it yesterday when I used it, but today I can't get logged in. They even E-mailed the same password that I have been trying and it still says that my subscription is not valid. This is really annoying. Bonnie
  13. Never mind. I logged back in and it was there. Bonnie
  14. I had a March 16 deadlin this year to possibly go on extension and March 30 to definitely go on extension. Next year it will be March 15 only. I know that I lost a few clients last year with the deadline, but I didn't miss them. I'm getting too old for the lack of sleep and I would like to enjoy my son before he graduates. Bonnie
  15. I can't believe that they can't wait until after Oct. 15. I am leaving for Florida on the 14th, so I really need to start pushing my clients to get their returns in so I can get them accepted before I go or they are mailing them. I started calling them last week, but so far only one has managed to get their act together. Bonnie
  16. Karen, I am so happy for your family that she made it through this experience. She is definitely a miracle.
  17. KC, I know what Deb meant. It was showing up in the VMS forum a couple of days ago. Bonnie
  18. Thanks, Tom. I set up four different reminder dates in my calendar to keep on top of this in case the IRS doesn't rescind the deficiency. I've been lucky because I haven't had to do this for a client in 30 years. Bonnie
  19. Thanks, KC. I will keep an eye on the calendar and hope that the IRS doesn't drag their feet. Bonnie
  20. I'm just checking on the proper response. I received Notices of Deficiency today for 2004-2006 as a POA for my clients. They had not filed any returns since 2003 for various reasons, (including the wife had a stroke and they moved out of state and misplaced everything). The husband did send a response finally to the IRS on July 20 and I received the last W2 today. I just finished everything through 2008. The IRS filed substitute returns with a total due of $50,000. They only owe $1,500. I called the office on the deficiency notice and asked about filing a tax court petition and she told me that I had 90 days to send in the actual returns and that the tax court petition was not necessary. Am I reading this wrong? It looks like the tax court petition should be filed and send the returns anyway. I have to overnight this to the client tomorrow to sign, but I want to make sure that we are not going to get nailed by not filing the petition. I just don't trust the oral advice from the IRS. Thanks! Bonnie
  21. It really ticked me off. I could have saved my money until later in the year, instead of paying in May. With my husband's illness, I could have to quit any time and go to work for someone for the benefits. I would have been happy to renew if they would have charged my card later on. I didn't get anything by renewing early except the rotten taste in my mouth that I was an idiot. I should have learned last year. Bonnie
  22. Thanks Billy, I should have just checked the IRS pub. I was trying to search and my words were too short.
  23. If the husband dies and has basis still left on his 8606, does it transfer to the spouse's 8606 if she is the beneficiary. All of his IRA's were rolled over to her. Thanks! Bonnie
  24. I am very sorry for your loss. Bonnie
  25. Steve, I knew that it didn't roll over, but none of the programs that I have ever used did roll over the state payment. I always have put it in myself. I hate to say it, but I do have clients that haven't paid their taxes in a timely fashion, or I may file three years of returns in one year and they might pay all of the taxes in one year. I always have to check the amount anyway so I don't really care. I don't want the estimated payments to automatically be added to the return until I put in the dates paid, because I have clients that forgot them or just didn't want to make them. Bonnie
