Linda, I am very sorry. I hope that your tax season becomes easier.

When I moved the office home a couple of months ago, one of the best purchases that I made was a new phone with a couple of cordless extensions with a do not disturb button. I love it. Any calls in the middle of the night or early before I get up, just go to voice mail and I am none the wiser. I see that people have called me at 6 AM since I am now supposed to be working 24-7. After taking a nice trip to the hospital in the rescue squad in November, I moved up my extension date and am not working much more than 12-14 hours now. I love working at home and wish that I had done it sooner. I don't seem to have lost any clients and they have all liked my new office. I still lose a lot of sleep, but it is anxiety over my 17 year old that thinks he is 30 and worrying about my sick husband.

Congratulations to both of you!

I never put their phone number on their return. Is this something new, because I haven't had this error message yet.

I did the same today. Bonnie

Question for California Preparers
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to NECPA in NEBRASKA's topic in General Chat
Thank you. I will prepare the form. This is why some people should not prepare their returns by hand. She had no idea that they might even be subject to taxes in other states. -
I just want to make sure that I am correct in reading that a nonresident has to file a CA return for ANY amount of California source income? I just picked up a new client and they have never filed a CA return, but have CA royalty income from oil. Most other states that I have prepared have an amount like $1,000 gross, but I don't see that in the instructions. Just want to make sure, because my fee will jump quite a bit, if I have to prepare one. Thanks in advance.

refundable opportunity education credit.
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to grandmabee's topic in General Chat
The student is 100% responsible for repaying the loans, so I would say that he will be claiming himself. He won't get as much back as his parents would, but they simply did not provide more than 50% of his support, because he doesn't even come home in the summer and they paid nothing except for his car insurance and a little food on the few times that he came home. -

I just had a family that the parents don't feel that they should claim, because he only came home for a couple of days for the entire year and doesn't plan to ever move home. His earned income didn't support him, but the loans that he took out, apparently did. Do his loans count as support? His parents only have paid for car insurance for the year. -
Mine starts with a P and I'm a CPA and don't have to take the test. I have had this number since they first came out.

I haven't received any calls from my clients yet, but my son received his and ours was deposited on the correct day this week.

I am having the same kind of year. Very busy.

Terry, Is she totally and permanently disabled? You wouldn't need to worry about the date then.

I'm not having your printing problem, but I am having an 8879 problem. Unlike the DVN numbers that stayed the same when you recreated the tax returns, the new submissions ID #'s change constantly, so they aren't the same as on the 8879 that my clients signed and faxed or e-mailed back to me. What the heck am I doing wrong? This early in the season, I always recreate before I send to check for changes in the program.

Anyone else having problems updating?
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to Margaret CPA in OH's topic in General Chat
I just received an email saying that they have an internet outage and updates cannot be done right now. -
Thanks, Eli. She will be sorely missed here.

I did get on with IE just now.

I've been using Chrome for at least a year and now suddenly it won't work. I don't know what the rendering engine is, so I can't change it.

What do you include in the client packet?
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to Yardley CPA's topic in General Chat
My son practices his signature constantly now, because his handwriting has deteriorated so much since fifth grade. He is a senior now and they turn in so much homework online and typed that his writing is pathetic. I am old school and had edited one of his papers to two spaces after each period like we learned on typewriters. He told me that that wasn't a rule anymore. I googled it, and I was wrong again. I will have to try to remember that I don't have to do it anymore. -

I told my son that humans will lose the ability to speak, due to their texting and instant messaging. -
We did issue a 1099 for the consulting when the website was set up, but I don't know if they should issue one for the monthly site fee. They have it coded to advertising, but it could even be rent, I guess. Thanks!

Congratulations on the weight loss! I am hoping to get healthier this year by walking on the treadmill between clients since I am working at home and I won't be around the donuts that were running around my office building before.

I dropped out of the AICPA also, two years ago and have kept my AON insurance because of my state society membership. Bonnie
