  1. I just found that I can only efile a 2011 business return until 1/22.
  2. When I try to create an efile in the 2011 program, I get the error that the taxpayer signature date must be in the current processing year. Does anyone know if that means that the return may not be filed as MEF or is it another program error? Thanks,
  3. I just installed 12.3 and so far it seems to be faster. I am a chicken and have only rolled over a test return with a 1040, but it did open in less than a minute. Previously it was over 2 minutes to open. I printed and it didn't crash. I had a bunch of other issues with my computer, and had to do a system restore before I downloaded ATX. I am blaming an adobe update last night, but I don't know for sure, because my stupid computer just gained an hour when I restarted it. The time zone is correct, so I don't know what the heck is wrong with it. I scanned everything and it seems to be OK.
  4. My test return actually opened and stayed open. It was still slower than normal opening, but 1,000% better than last week. There is nothing in my test except a 1040 and 1040N. I won't even look at the client letter, because I am afraid that I will break down and cry after all of the bad reviews that I am seeing on the other site.
  5. Thanks for that post. Maybe that is why my Mom's alarm keeps going off when there is nothing there. I will check her vents.
  6. Is your security system one that is monitored by ADT or someone or is it one that reports to you? I hate to pay the big bucks to ADT when I can only deduct a small portion for my office in home. We have dead bolts on all of the exterior doors and I definitely feel my information is safer here than at my old office where they did have doors kicked in and someone was always leaving the front door unlocked or propped open.
  7. I have them on all of my cabinets. We had to add them to two of them and they use the same key.
  8. I was on version 12.1.1226.1 when I did the rollover and tried to open the test return. I hope 12.2 fixes this problem.
  9. I am very worried about it, also. I prepared a test 1040 in 2011 with just a 1040 and a state 1040, single no numbers and it took two minutes to open. This has to be fixed very soon or I don't know what I will do. I realize that the 1040 is a draft, but it should at least open.
  10. Do those of you that have an online backup service, get signed 7216's or other consent forms from all of your clients? I have it in my engagement letter, but I don't know if that is enough after reading an article from the AICPA about Cloud Computing. Maybe I should just stick to my two different disk drive backups and not use online, but I always like to have as many backups as possible. Thanks.
  11. I haven't installed 2012 ATX, but if you go to tax warehouse from the returns menu, you can sort them by various kinds of income, expenses, etc.
  12. Thanks. I just thought that I would ask, because I am able to e-file fiscal corporation returns and extensions through December and they have been accepted.
  13. A client just sent me the information for 1099's that she should have filed for 2011. I prepared them with ATX and transmitted them. Does anyone know if they go in the same method as 941's or will they just sit there and not be acknowledged because the e-file system is shut down? I tried to check IRS'GOV, but I couldn't find an answer on if they were submitted through FIRE or not. ATX didn't kick them back yet. Thanks. Bonnie
  14. That's encouraging news. I will pray for the best.
  15. I am so sorry and will be praying for you. I hope that the surgery goes well and that you can move soon to be closer to your family.
  16. Jack, It's hard for me not to disagree. I love the old gentleman, but I find it hard to believe that there aren't a bunch of these promotional items running around and that this museum doesn't have any of them yet. I told him that I want pictures and the acknowledgements for my file. I think he has watched too many Pawn Stars.
  17. Thanks everyone for the quick answers. He is checking to make sure that they are really 501c(3) organizations. I am hesitant at times, because this client likes to push everything to the max and many times what he thinks is valuable is only valuable to him. I don't know that the stuff has appreciated in value, he just says that they have and he will want to take $4,999 for it. (I just moved my mother and step-father and know that what most of us call trash, he thought was something that we all would cherish.) This client and I have had discussions every year for the last thirty years about what is and what isn't deductible. Gifts to kids and grandkids were not deductible last year and they still aren't this year. I just note everything in the file and he signs the engagement letter. Thanks again.
  18. Thank you, Jainen. I did read Pub 526 and 561 and thought that it was too good to be true. Bonnie
  19. A client wants to donate several hundred items of jewelry to various museums for the companies that gave them to him over the years. He paid nothing for them so I think that his basis is 0. They have appreciated in value, but I don't know that there is value to anyone but the airplane industry. He says that the museums tell him that he can deduct the FMV, but they won't give him a value. I told him that since he doesn't know what the cost of the jewelry was when given to him, he has no basis at all and there is no charitable deduction available to him even if he gets an appraisal. He believes that they are worth over $5,000. I don't want to miss a deduction to him, but I don't think that even appreciated value will work for him, but I would like to be wrong. Thanks.
  20. I have had one finished for a week and they haven't returned my calls. They don't owe anything, so I'm not going to stress out about it. I have two more here with three years each to finish, but they just can't find the time to get me the additional info that I need to finish any of them. I would love to get them billed and out of here so I can try to have my "to do" drawer empty before the rest of my late ones decide to bring their 2011 info in. It has been a terrible couple of months, because we are moving my mom into a villa here in town, since my step-dad is in a rehab center after breaking his hip last month. It has been very difficult getting her to leave my hometown, but we need them closer, since neither one of them can drive up here anymore. The packing, cleaning and fixing up of both places has taken up all of our weekends and I would like a breather before January.
  21. KC, I am so sorry for your family's loss. You are in my prayers. Bonnie
  22. I am sorry, KC. You and your family are in my prayers.
  23. I have not heard back from her if they are reimbursable or if she chose not to ask for the money. She wanted to know if she could still get an acknowledgment from them, but I explained that it was too late. If they turn out to be legitimate employee expenses, she can use them as an itemized deduction, since she procrastinated.
  24. Thank you, Jack. That is very helpful. Bonnie
  25. I had this problem and nothing would correct it. The only thing that worked was to change my user name and then I could get on the website.
