Wow! That is amazing! That was very nice of you, Jack.

That was amazing! What a great video. I couldn't get to the fb pictures. I would never be able to do that. It takes a lot out of me just to fly in a small plane with him. He did say that the naked jumpers at least wore basketball shorts until right before they jumped. You are a brave woman.
-
Lion, is that you in the picture? My son just started flying skydivers locally. It's getting too snowy now, but last weekend, he had a bunch of naked ones for their 100th jump and then a guy in a tux for his 500th. He really enjoys it.

I purchased bulk hours from Western CPE and did several live webinars and a couple of live ones here in town. I really like Vern Hoven and Bob Jennings as instructors. They are interesting and keep me from falling asleep. I'm actually not scrambling for hours at the end of the month for a change.

My parents' were getting ready to go back to work and drop my back at school (1st grade) after lunch when it came on our tv. I just remember that my mom and our babysitter were crying, which made my baby sister cry, too.

Threatening Phone call from IRS Agent
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to Naveen Mohan from New York's topic in General Chat
I received one of these, too a month ago. I knew it was a scam and ignored it. -
We have had Whirlpool Duets for almost 2 years and love them. I talked my husband into spending the extra $ on the stands to alleviate the bending and we have been very happy that we did. We don't run bleach through separately, but he does use it for whites and we have not had the mildew problem. My sister just bought a Maytag top loader that she despises. She was against a front loader and now hates this one because it runs so long and doesn't have an agitator.

The website is having problems right now. I have been thrown out 10 times in the last 10 minutes. I can get to the first screen and then it closes back to the login.

I received this today. I have a stand alone machine and am still deciding which way to go. Dear Valued ATX Customer: The ATX 2013 Preview wrapped up at the end of last month, and we have been reviewing the feedback we received from your peers who tested an advance version of ATX 2013 software. We asked Preview participants to focus on some features of ATX software. The Preview participant pool was made up of tax professionals much like yourself and provided a representative mix of the ATX customer base. 62% of Preview participants work in firms with 1-5 employees 39% file 100-300 returns per year 57% use stand-alone computers, while 43% work in a network environment After using the ATX 2013 Preview software each week, participants were asked to fill out a brief survey focusing on the software features they used during the week. We want to share some of the survey results with you. Installation and Performance Installation is different than in years past, and Preview participants requested more information to guide them through the process. We have already taken steps to modify the setup selections based on their input. We asked Preview participants about the time it took to launch the software once it had been installed. 87% of survey respondents said the amount of time it took to launch was acceptable to them. The network structure has been redesigned in ATX 2013 to enhance performance and stability. These changes were favorably received and participants were generally pleased with software stability. Return Manager We asked Preview participants to create a new return using the Preview software. 87% of respondents were satisfied with the amount of time it took to start working on a return once a form had been selected. 87% of survey respondents were also satisfied with the amount of time it took to add a new form to a return. Nearly 70% of respondents were satisfied with the amount of time it took to open returns. Satisfaction with the opening of small and medium-sized returns was high. For large returns (80+ forms), some respondents noted improvement but would like to see additional improvement. We are continuing to work on the Return Open speed prior to the release of the software. Participants responded positively to new pagination functionality which should speed up data display on each page of the client return and offered suggestions for additional future enhancements. Client Letter We have provided full editing features for the standard client letter, and participants were very pleased to have this functionality. 79% of survey respondents testing Client Letter functionality found the process to apply modifications to client letters globally (across letters for all clients) or locally (specific to individual clients) to be intuitive and said it made sense to them. Over 80% of Preview participants use ATX for client letters. When those participants who do not currently use ATX for client letters tried the ATX 2013 Preview Client Letter, 47% of respondents said they would be inclined to use ATX Client Letter in the future. Another 41% said they might use it in the future. 50% of survey respondents said the ability to add and remove text was their favorite Client Letter feature, while another 43% ranked the ability to save changes globally or locally as their favorite Client Letter feature. Printing We asked Preview participants to test Print Manager during the final week of the Preview. 93% of respondents found Print Manager navigation to be intuitive. 79% of survey respondents reported favorably on the speed of return printing. 83% of survey respondents were satisfied with the speed with which the Print dialog populated forms. In each of these areas, a number of Preview participants offered suggestions for additional enhancements to ATX software. We will be working on incorporating many of these suggestions into software updates in the coming months or into future versions of ATX. Some Preview participants also identified areas where it would be helpful for the user to have a little more information about a specific feature or process. We are already working on a series of educational tips to guide the user through changes to ATX features and functionality. These tips will be available later this fall. Preview participants used a variety of operating systems and hardware. Their experience, and yours, will be impacted by the capabilities of their system and equipment. For that reason, we encourage you to check your hardware and software to see how it compares to the minimum and recommended system requirements for ATX 2013. You can do so by using our System Analysis Tool, which you can access by clicking here. For months, we have been sharing information with you about the changes we have been making to ATX software. We thought you would like to hear from your peers for a change. In the coming weeks we will share their specific comments with you. Changes to Regulations Affecting Renewing Plans (HRA, FSA, PRA)
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to grmy2h's topic in General Chat
That is pretty much how it reads to me, unless it is a group help plan. I may be wrong, but I believe that is what it is saying for individual plans. I hope that I'm misinterpreting it, because I'm hearing as much feedback as I would expect. I have googled it and have gone to various websites, such as BASE, etc. to see their take on the law. All I know is that they keep talking about stand alone plans not being able to be used for individual policies. I'm surprised that there is not more of an uproar, so I hope that I am crazy. -
Changes to Regulations Affecting Renewing Plans (HRA, FSA, PRA)

This doesn't seem fair to small businesses, such as myself that don't have access to a group health plan. I have a couple of clients with no employees that are corporations that this will hurt, not to mention my own MERP is apparently useless. I am thinking of killing my corporation so that I can at least, use the self-employed health insurance route. I've been reading various blogs and am not finding much that says anything that will be helpful. This is not a political post, I'm just confused, because I didn't see this coming at all. It will make a huge difference to what I pay in income taxes, especially with the 7.5% to 10% increase in AGI for medical. If anyone knows of anything that will help small business, please PM me or post it here. The company that I know that administers medical plans, etc. is still studying the new law and hasn't come out with any announcements. I am assuming that this will affect all of the farm plans, etc. Thanks! -
I know this is a dumb question, but if you attach a PDF to an efile, do you have to reattach it every time you recreate the efile? Thanks!

The ACA and custodial vs. non-custodial parents
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to grmy2h's topic in General Chat
Thanks. Nebraska did not expand Medicaid, but I know a mother that should still be able to get her daughter covered if she can get the dad to let go of the exemption. I just can't see that it would be worth having to change insurance every year and he makes too much money to get a subsidy. -

Taxed, Does that mean that they don't alternate the exemption? -
Thanks to everyone. Mr. Pencil, I did think that the question was tax related and thought that it was not employer provided, but I was not sure. This new article is just what I needed, but I am going to dig a lot more. I just went to an 8 hour school and these changes weren't mentioned even though there was a company that did a presentation that handles 105 plans. I'm signed up for another 30 hours in the next couple of months, so I hope that there is more coverage of this. I am going to look for something that specifically covers the act. Fortunately, I only have a couple of companies that provide health insurance for anyone. Thanks again.
-
Thanks, everyone. That's why I don't want to answer anything except tax questions about this. I will tell them to talk to their insurance company.
-
A client asked me this question and I'm not sure how to answer it or if I should direct him to someone else. His corporation has a medical reimbursement plan and reimburses him and his spouse for their individually purchased health insurance. They have no other employees. Does this qualify as his employer providing him with health insurance when he looks at the exchange offerings? It's a reimbursement, not a company plan so I'm not sure if that is considered provided. I know that I should be studying this stuff more, but I need to get the extensions out of here first. Thanks!

Congratulations, Jack! We are going to have our fourth grandchild next month from my step-son. They are some of the biggest joys of our lives.

Jack, I am reading all of the posts and am definitely interested in your findings. I am not in a network environment, but I still had some of the other issues. My program still crashes for no reason. I would really like to stay with ATX for 2013 is at all possible. I have way too many things going on to try to switch to Drake unless there is not chance that ATX will work for me for 2013 tax returns.
-
Happy Birthday! I miss your input. I can always count on you to respond to most of my questions and give helpful advice.

Robin, This happened to me for a long time. Don't use Chrome, because that website does not like it. Apparently, it became allergic to me user name and just kept going in circles. I called again and was sent up the line of techs and my user name was changed and now I have no issues as long is I use IE.They have no idea what caused my problem.

How do you ask your clients about sibling, parents, etc. ownership in other companies? It feels so intrusive to me to question clients about their family, especially ones that I know don't even get along with them. Maybe I am reading too much into the questions on the corporate and partnership returns. I don't mind asking a few of them. None of my clients has ever mentioned being asked for their info by other family members. Thanks.

I am going nuts trying to figure out form 8889 for a client. Their employer contributed the max $6,250 to their HSA and they put in $1.310. The 5498-SA has $7,560 in box 2. The bank did not tell them that they had contributed too much and they used more for medical expenses. The 1099-SA says $7,583.24, category 1. I think that there should be a penalty, but I can not get the 8889 to show that they contributed too much, because it says to not include employer contributions on line 2 and it doesn't seem to add the employee and employer contributions together anywhere. There was only $5.72 left in the account at year. Am I totally misunderstanding the instructions? Thanks!

I have a Sub-S that receives 9 K-1s. This year, the Nebraska ones spun off losses and the Iowa ones have a profit. Neither at risk or basis is a problem for the losses. There is a large net loss for the S Corp for the year. In preparing the Iowa return, the apportionment schedule is computing very strangely and coming up with a negative business activity ratio and producing numbers that can't be correct. I know that it can't be right. Of course, it is all different kinds of income. (Interest, rental and ordinary) Maybe I am overthinking this, but This doesn't look even close to being correct. I've been looking at it too long, I think. I don't know if I should just override and make the Iowa numbers be just what is on their k-1s or not. Thanks for any help.
