  1. Then I had to delete those state returns from the client letter and make sure that they don't print. Very annoying!
  2. I just called support and received what I felt was a ridiculous answer regarding the new input for the Nebraska Schedule II for tax credits paid to another state. The 1040 has two K1 attachments for composite state returns filed in other states. I can no longer just add the information to the schedule II because all of the boxes are grayed out unless you add the other state tax return. So I have to add a tax return from each state, even though I won't actually be filing it. This is programming that they should have left the way that it was. It has worked fine for years and now this is just another stupid step and I sure can't bill for it.
  3. I've always been able to get it waived. Reasonable cause is that it was forgotten and that it has or will be remedied right away.I try to get my clients to have the withdrawal taken automatically so that it doesn't happen again.
  4. I hope that you fell better very soon. Try to get some rest.
  5. I have them bring me something: school records, daycare records, doctor bill and I keep a copy for my records.
  6. Earlier this year I'm sure that there was a tab for Organizations that they had contributed to in the prior year. Now I can't find it for anything, but I could be going nuts. Thanks! Bonnie
  7. Joan, I'm thinking about you and your kitty. I hope that she recovers, if possible.
  8. I have a way more returns than I can finish, but that is my intention. I am open year round and so extensions are great for me and my clients know ahead of time, that if they do not have all of their information in before my deadline, that they will go on extension.
  9. Eek! My son is bringing his girlfriend over tonight after we celebrate an early Easter at my sister's tonight. We had not planned on having anyone here (grandkids don't count) so the house is very cluttered upstairs. I just keep the downstairs looking good during tax season. Instead of working, I have been shoving stuff in closets and cleaning like a crazy person. I will have to burn the midnight oil after they leave, but I'm glad to have him around and she is a super nice girl.
  10. Judy, I just ate a GS peanut butter cookie because I was on the phone so long talking to someone. I love peanut butter cookies! My client absolutely knew that she didn't pay, because I just looked at the check and it had the added finance charges on it.
  11. The wife just showed up with a check for last year! She claims that she had to stop payment on the check today because she left one here last April. Funny, how all of my statement's must have been lost in the mail so she didn't know that she still owed me. She was lying like a rug.
  12. You guys are killing me! I would be so miserable if I couldn't come here and see what everyone is up to. I suspect that there will be problems at home for the wife of a long term client of mine. The husband (client since he was in college, love him!) called me today and asked if I could still get his return finished by 4/15 since he just found out his wife didn't bring it in. I told him that I was so sorry, but I am so far behind that I would have to put him on extension. I nicely asked if he realized that I had not been paid for last year and he had no idea that it had not been paid or that my statements had been ignored. There were no problems last year, but two years ago, she made me cry when she unleashed on me when they weren't done until 4/13 and they came in after my deadline anyway.
  13. I used to get a bunch of treats, but sadly most of those thoughtful clients have passed away. I now have many of their impatient children and even worse grandchildren. I am actually grateful not to get all of the cookies, since I lost quite a bit of weight two years ago and have managed to keep it off. I could not live without my treadmill right outside my office. If I had to go to the gym, I would have gained it all back.
  14. I was hoping for a better result. IL has a much higher tax rate and it cost him quite a bit more money, but at least he received great scholarships.
  15. I got a call at 3:55 from my 4 PM appointment, that I squeezed in even though I told her that I didn't want to see her because she was going on extension. She was running late and didn't have everything ready to see me today, could she come next week? I said absolutely not, just fax me what you think I need tomorrow and I'll tell you what to write the check for to go with your extension. WTH is wrong with people? They have one stinking return to pull together and then wonder why we don't jump for them. I try to be nice, but it is getting so much more difficult.
  16. That's what I assumed, KC, but I doubt myself constantly these days.
  17. Student attends college in IL and worked in Illinois part time, but is resident of NE. Does IL tax the scholarship amount or does NE? I checked the IL instructions, and it doesn't mention it. I know that technically it is in IL, but I'm tired and confused. Thank you!
  18. Rita, I am having the same problem. I am so tired of not being able to finish returns. This has been a terrible year for me as far as getting anything done. Even returns that are normally simple, have strange things or missing. An easy one yesterday wrote down $7,500 for Goodwill donations, did not fill out the health insurance questionnaire that I sent them, didn't return engagement letter and forgot their property tax. I'm really getting crabby.
  19. Stop that!
  20. Jack, do they coach the team for free? That's the only way that I would think that it would even be close to deductible. Most school coaches are paid though. I wish that I had known that I could have deducted all of the mileage to my kid's sporting events. "Sarcasm"
  21. I am very sorry for your loss, Jack. You are in thoughts and prayers.
  22. Thanks, KC. He did have a lot of additional supplemental forms and I was pretty sure that the other income was charged to his quarter from his purchases.
  23. He did sell all of them a few days after he retired.
  24. Thanks, They were from an ESPP. Thank you. He checked the few paystubs that he has remaining and couldn't find any additional information. It is a small amount each year.
  25. I heard from a client that is going on extension that has Anthem and they were advised to file an extension now, even if they plan to file on time, and to apply for an efile PIN. I don't know if it will stop anything, but it's worth a try.
