  1. Thanks! Maybe we can get around another visit by faxing anything that she may be looking for. It would be nice if they would send a letter. They just started payroll in 2013, so maybe they are looking for prior returns.
  2. Maybe that is it. They only have one employee and he just gets paid once a year normally.
  3. One of my client's called me late this afternoon and was pretty freaked out. She was out of her office for awhile and came back to a notice that an IRS agent had been there and would like a call back Monday between 9 and 3. She hasn't received any letters from them and doesn't owe anything. She forgot to take the card with her, so she doesn't remember the name correctly and is pretty sure that it was a revenue agent, not a revenue officer or special agent. She called back and is pretty sure that the voicemail said it she was an agent. She's pretty upset that she has to wait until Monday to find out what is going on. I just told her that when she calls her back to see what the visit pertained to, which tax period and what tax form is involved. Then I told her to tell the agent she would have to get the information and contact her CPA. I can't get a POA unless I know what it is about. Did I forget anything? I hope that it's nothing big, but I can't think what else would prompt a visit. If this is an audit, it will probably be like a full time job for me and I have no place to set up in my home for an auditor. My downstairs bathroom is a laundry room with two cat boxes. I'll be stewing all weekend.
  4. I'm planning on having a desktop built this year to replace my 5 year old Dell 8100. I don't know what operating system to have put in it. I love my Windows 7 Pro 64, but since I normally run my computers 24-7 for at least 5 years, I'm thinking about jumping to Windows 10, because I hate to have to do an upgrade. The company that will build it, says it's no problem, but I don't want to mess up. I now have an awesome 17" laptop that I paid extra for with XP that is pretty much a paperweight, since it's such a hassle to upgrade it and the IT guys told me that is wasn't worth the money to upgrade a laptop from XP.
  5. I have had liability insurance since I began business. It has not paid any claims, but they have been very helpful whenever I have questions and have provided an attorney for consultation the few times that I have had records subpoenaed for a couple of client's that had lawsuits filed against them. It was great to have the attorney deal with the other attorneys and to know what I should and should not provide. It's well worth the money to have it. I also have business insurance for liability, my business property and an umbrella policy, since my office is at home now. I may be a little overinsured, but I have way too many elderly clients that insist on coming here and it petrifies me.
  6. I haven't even received a renewal email or phone call. They must not like me. The same thing happened last year. My reps keep leaving and it takes forever before I get a new one.
  7. Absolutely ask for abatement. I just got one abated for over $4,000. The IRS is definitely more aggressive with penalties for everything. Explain the circumstances with as much detail as possible. I'm fighting one now on a 941 that had a liability of $2,200 which was paid with the return and they have penalized them for not making monthly deposits. When the taxpayer called they told him that they were required to pay it monthly. I guess they should actually look at a 941 and see the requirements. I have written two letters and have an additional phone call in to them. This should have been an easy fix, but I think that they have people answering the phone now, that aren't well trained.
  8. All of my W-2s have passed the Accuwage checks and I prepare all of them through ATX. I prepare around 150 for various clients. It is so easy to prepare them and the 1099's with the Uni-form. I really miss when they did everything, including sending them out for you for a fee. I always have so many more things to work on in December and January that I would love not to have to mess around with them. I really miss having employees that took care of all of the payroll stuff for me.
  9. Yes. Just prepare another corrected one. The IRS will be totally confused, but at least it will be correct.
  10. What a bunch of garbage. I really don't want to look around, because I have been happy with ATX, but if they are going to start charging for every little thing, I will have to. There is no reason for them to charge for W-2's, since they aren't even filing them. I know that I can pass on the fee, but it's getting ridiculous.
  11. Congratulations! This was my 36th year. I wish that I was close to retirement, but I'm afraid that the only way that I will get to retire is when I'm in a box.
  12. I'm finally finished! 102 extensions. I can't believe how many people showed up today. I even got a 2013 in that I thought I had lost. Tomorrow my first excursion away from the house since Easter is to take my son to have his wisdom teeth taken out since he ended up in the ER last week in KS with severe pain and a very bad infection. I don't know why these things can't happen when he's in town. Fortunately, he didn't fly down there or we would have had to drive a pilot down there to fly the plane back that lets him borrow it. Then I can finally get my haircut after I get him home so my husband can watch him. We were going to a movie, but that's out for now. Thanks to everyone on this board. Now I have to get back to quarterlies, sales tax and property tax returns.
  13. Love it, Margaret! Are yours all black? I can't see very well today. My eyes and head are killing me. Our three new boys are black, two litter mates and the little boy in the kennel beneath them at the humane society. I have to watch a couple of my clients so they don't sneak off with one.
  14. That is my life every day, except there are three of them sitting on everything that I need.
  15. Thanks, Jack. It's amazing that no one that I spoke to there would know that it doesn't change above 5. I'm not messing with it until next week. I wasted over an hour and they have a good sized refund. If the website doesn't work for that large a family, then there should be a disclaimer or it should stop you at 5 dependents. I'm too frustrated to worry about it.
  16. After 30 minutes on the phone, they determined that the website is either broken or they can't calculate the bronze or silver premium for 10 people in a family. I extended the return.
  17. I have entered the information 4 times now and it just says error computing premium. I'm going to cry. Two parents and 8 kids. I've tried some of the other pinned websites, but I can't find that can do what I need.
  18. I do the same thing. I get much more work done when my phone is not blowing up from people wanting to know if their taxes are done. I'm pretty sure that I would let them know if they were, but we all know that they think they are our only client. It is so much easier for me to work late and then email everyone that I can with questions. One guy told me to call him anytime that I was working instead of emailing him. I just can't call someone in the middle of the night. This board is what keeps me from being so depressed. Knowing that I am not the only one with stacks of problems. We all need a laugh, too!
  19. Judy, That's great! I won't even count what I have left because I will be sick. I'm tired and very sick of almost every return having some strange issue this year.
  20. I found my answer, but it was too late to edit. It goes on line 23 on the 8903. Thanks!
  21. Client received his usual 1099-PATR showing Box 1 of $500 and now Domestic Production Activities Deduction Box 6 of $284. There is no other information other than a letter that they sent that says we are reporting a tax deduction to you generated by qualified production activity. I don't have enough information to file an 8903 from this. Do you think it should be deducted from the gross amount and show the net amount as taxable? This is a first for me and my client wants me to ignore it if will cause any problems. Thanks for any advice. I just want to get this one out of here.
  22. I don't care about the weather, but I get a much needed haircut, date night with my husband and can schedule a pedicure.
  23. They were so cute! Our cats crack us up every day.
  24. I scan it and attach the PDF to the efile as long as the information is reported in the correct order. Check to see if you have to make any adjustments. I enter the numbers and use the brokerage name for the description.
