I did not receive the email offering the free Tax Book, in fact I have not received any phone calls and just one email when my invoice was ready. It was $2200 including $67 for the TaxBook Deluxe.

My son has finished his ground school training for SkyWest and will be going now for flight sim training on the CRJ, which is the plane that he chose to fly. He will be flying for United, Delta, American or Alaska, depending on flight schedules at the hub he ends up at. I am so excited for him. It doesn't seem possible that it has just been six years since he began to fly. All of the sleepless nights, being totally neurotic and following him with a tracker and on flightaware has paid off for him and me. He was so focused and got what he wanted immediately after graduating from college and I am now able to fly with him in 4 seater planes without help from any drugs. I can even sleep while he is flying and not have to pray constantly to keep the plane in the sky. (Some of the planes that he had to fly needed all of the help that they could get.) I look forward to doing a little traveling if my husband's health allows it.

I did get to speak to the IRS today about this letter for my step-father. The efile rejected, as expected, so I called the PPL and they were very helpful. He did let me know that the letter was indeed legit, and that they had received our response and the earlier return was rejected with no refund being issued. He did ask me a lot of questions to verify my identity and both of my POA's. I hope that this doesn't take forever to resolve, since I get asked daily about it. I love my Mom, but she worries about everything!

I don't even know who my rep is. I have not heard from a human in at least two years. When I do get an email, they never answer their phone or call me back.

I am trying to figure out how to get three monitors on my desk. I really wanted to get a veridesk, but I'm pretty sure that my two monitors already ruled that out.

I don't want my client to call in response to CP14
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to RitaB's topic in General Chat
Do you have the box checked on the 1040? If so, you can make the call. If not, I would send a note and send it to the address on the top of the form, if it's different than the stub. -
I will keep reading, but I was hoping that someone had dealt with this before. I must stink at research terms. I found plenty of examples if one or both of them had marketplace insurance. The parents swap the dependency exemption each year. The father provides the health insurance every year through his employer (not marketplace) Mom did not have any health insurance for 2015. She is covered now. I computed shared responsibility payment for the mother only, because the daughter is on her father's 1095-C for the entire year. do I have to do anything else to show that the dependent has health insurance? Thanks for any help. This is a freebie and I have spent entirely too much time on it. The mother did file bankruptcy in 2015, but was not aware that she could get an exemption and is not sure that she wants to wait that long for the exemption to come back. Thanks for any ideas. I will keep reading the pub.

It's not just for complaints. You don't even have to comply. I just hate my legal name and only used it for my certificate and not my PTIN or corporate name. If I didn't comply, they would take my name off of the IRS preparer's website. That would just make me happy for the same reason that I won't let QuickBooks add me to their Pro Advisors website. I am one, but I don't want people to know it.

I've decided that the letter is totally legit. I can't wait on hold any longer, but I found the suitability analyst job description for the IRS that is her title. They do have three positions at that address in Atlanta.
-
That is where I received it from. A Reeves is on the letter and who called me back.

I received the same letter. I was very skeptical, too and asked about it here. I did track down their address on Peachtree in Atlanta and faxed them my credentials with the explanation that I had never used my legal name for my business, I only used it on when I had to. Like my permit, etc. I then received another letter saying that they hadn't received my info. I'm sure that it crossed in the mail. I called the lady on my form and left a message that I had faxed it and to let me know if it was not received. She actually called me back and said that they had received it and that I was good to go. If it was not legit, they did a great job of hiding it. The info that they asked for is all public anyway. They just wanted my current permit.

Every new client that I have picked up (or declined after they wouldn't change their ways) that has come from an ex-IRS employee-turned tax preparer has had totally bogus deductions on their returns. It is mind blowing. Most of the returns were marked self-prepared. The last guy that came in had not filed for 6 years because the guy died. I guess he was trying to find another old agent, because he says that one never charged him. He received a very large fee from me.

Since the identity theft is not handled by every office, I doubt that they will need to see anyone. I am not going to borrow trouble and just assume that the 2848 will be fine. I have talked to other CPA's and Ea's that have handled it. The less stress that this causes my parents, the better. Mom if finishing up her info so that I can file their return. Thanks everyone!
-
Thanks, Judy. I'm going to have to have him make a mark on a 2848 for me, because he can't talk most days. He has Parkinson's and is in very bad shape at the nursing home. My Mom has a POA for him, but I'm going to get a 2848 from her too, because it will affect their joint return. She can call the IRS, but she's so upset, it's better for me to do as much as I can.

My mom received a letter that looks like it's from the IRS in Austin, but there is no PO Box, just Austin, TX 73301-0034. It is just to my step-dad and has his SS#. It says that they have received his 2015 1040A and need more info to process it accurately. They have a joint return on extension. It is a LTR 12C, which according to the IRS website, is supposed to be for form 8962. Of course, I can't get through to the IRS at any of their normal numbers and the PPS has already hung up on me after getting me all excited after 35 minutes when it told me to get ready. I've been researching and there actually are fake IRS letters. The letter looks official and has a box to check if you did not file this return, but I am afraid to send it back in case it's fake. If the LTR number corresponded to the one on the IRS website, I wouldn't think much of it. Of course both of my parents are freaking out. Thanks if anyone knows anything about these letters.

I did this morning. I haven't had any problems. It apparently is good to go after my Windows 10 fiasco last weekend. The ATX tech worked for over 30 minutes to get me back up and running. I'm still fixing preferences, print packets, etc. that were all lost in the freaking mess. He even had to get all three years of ACKS again.

I had a new client receive one. I told her to ignore it, because I could not see any problem with anything on her prior return or the current one.

Windows 10 screwed up all of my ATX!
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to NECPA in NEBRASKA's topic in General Chat
ATX remoted in and fixed the databases for 2013-2015. 2012 and the payroll programs were intact. It has taken forever to put back in my preferences, check returns and acks as complete. I have to get EASEUS for this computer now, because Microsoft destroyed their own backup system. -
Windows 10 screwed up all of my ATX!
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to NECPA in NEBRASKA's topic in General Chat
I did get Microsoft support to uninstall it and set it back to my NEWLY purchased Windows 7. Now ATX 2013-2015 have Database server errors. The payroll side is still OK. ATX 2012 is OK. My other programs seem to work, so far. I am calling ATX support and hope that they have had to deal with this problem previously. The Microsoft tech didn't even ask any questions, she probably has to uninstall it all day.
