I've had good luck with Amazon in finding supplies for my old Sharp calculator and HP 4000 Laserjet.

I love these phone calls. I can say things to them that I won't say to someone else. They are a welcome relief if I'm having a bad day. (That seems to be most of my days.)

I know of a case where the ex refused to sign the 8332 and was forced to sign by the judge in the court room or face contempt.

I don't use Outlook, but I do use a Google Calendar, I just haven't been able to get the to do list on there sorted as I like it. I don't want to miss any deadlines, because of the filing changes for fiscal years, the emails or phone calls for clients that have just "an easy question" or the multitude of letters that people are bringing in, because they forgot something or have not filed for ages. My calendar takes care of my client appointments and the multitude of doctor appointments for my Mom and husband very well. The software that I have specifically seen for Accountants and Tax office management seems to be geared towards larger firms. I would like something like that, but smaller. I probably just need to stop sleeping. I definitely should not be going away for five days in October with my family, since extensions are coming in later than they were supposed to.

This may have been talked about before, but my search didn't find what I need. I am getting buried with due dates, letters to respond to and other crap to manage. I am just a one person office, but I have never had so much going on at one time. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced software or app that will help me to not miss deadlines and prioritize. I have several people that are three years behind, regular taxes, sales and payroll, and so many blasted letters to respond to that I feel like I'm drowning. My manual tax logs aren't working very well anymore. I do use ATX a lot for taxes, but it doesn't help with the additional junk .So much of what I have found online is way more expensive than I can handle. Thanks!

Child tax credit and a fiscal year
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to NECPA in NEBRASKA's topic in General Chat
Thanks, Judy! I kept looking for something specific to the CTC. So their calendar year began in 2015 and the child did not turn 17 until 2016. ATX and I were correct. I am going to try to handle this with a phone call. This fiscal return causes all kinds of havoc with the IRS and state. (I didn't set them up as fiscal) -
I have a fiscal year 1040 with a year end of 3/16., which is a calendar year 2015 1040. ATX calculated and I agreed that a child born in November of 1999 was not 17 by the end to their fiscal year and gave them the $1,000 child tax credit. IRS has deducted it as not being qualified. All that I can find is that the child had to be under 17 in 2015 , which it was. Since this is a fiscal year return, it has to be paper-filed, so I am assuming that this is an error. I can't find any additional directions for fiscal year filers regarding this in the instructions, pub, Google or CCH Research. I don't want my client to miss the last year of their credit. Does anyone know if I'm correct? Thanks!

Program won't open for me today
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to NECPA in NEBRASKA's topic in General Chat
It just started working when I tried again after midnight. Tech support was wrong. It definitely happened after trying to open depreciation schedules. I think that it was trying to update and could not reach a server. -

Mine work too! Thank you for posting. I was terrified to open them again. I still don't understand how they were messed up and magically fixed. -
Program won't open for me today
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to NECPA in NEBRASKA's topic in General Chat
The program appears to stop after trying to load FAM files, which must be depreciation. I have opened a few that don't have depreciation schedules. I am afraid to open too many, because the four that I finished yesterday and was supposed to give out today are BIG returns. It does not matter if they were worked on yesterday or not, even if they were completed, they are killing the program. I don't know what happened between late last night and this morning, but I hope that it's not just my computer. I don't want to wish it on anyone else, but my other programs don't seem to be affected. -
Program won't open for me today

No. I did get one easy 2015 and a completed 2014 open. It gets to creating user interface and then gives me the lovely message that the program has the program has recovered from an unexpected error and needs to close. When I try to get details, a little round circle spins forever. Everything worked great last night. -

The error occurs when I open any 2015 return and it gets to user interface. I did have the program updating when opening the program, but I stopped that and it is still happening. Thanks to anyone that has any ideas. I will try rebooting again.. I had two appointments scheduled for this afternoon and now had to call and tell them that I can't even open their returns. -
I don't know what is going on, but when I start the program, it takes a little longer to update and then when I try to open a return, it says it's recovering from an unexpected error and closes. It worked fine at 12"30 last night. I don't know if this has anything to do with their maintenance or not.

When I received a subpoena regarding a client, I called my insurance company and they assigned an attorney to me that took care of everything. I didn't make a move without his OK. He really cut down on the information that they were requesting

I am so glad to know another Buffy fan! Good luck! I hope that you have a better weekend.

I don't know how anyone got the 10% plus the sales tax removal. I ended up going back to the 10%. The reps all seem to have different ideas of what the discounts are. I ended up keeping my original renewal, because I am so far behind with IRS letters, extensions, people that haven't filed for years and family issues that I just can't learn a new program. I was nice, because customer support people get dumped on so much and they don't make the stupid rules. I did tell him that I am about to be pushed to Drake, because I am sick of all of the messing around with pricing. I'm sure that the higher ups don't give a hoot.
-
I finally got the email with my renewal. I am so ! It is more than my original quote! I am going to call and raise Hell tomorrow. If it is not fixed, then I will cancel the payment and switch to Drake.
-
I did just call and renewed with the no sales tax and 10% discount. My rep is out until 6/29 and I didn't want to wait any longer. The strange thing was that my renewal quote was gone from my account and even the sales rep could not find it.

My client is self employed as a farmer. I know that he can't contribute to a traditional IRA after 70.5, but I am having trouble finding any place that says he can not contribute to a SIMPLE IRA after 70.5. I see that an employer must still contribute matching for an employee over 70.5. I am hoping that he can continue to contribute for 2017, even though he will be making withdrawals. I've Googled, used Tax Book, IRS pubs and I can't find a place where any of them say that you can't be over 70.5 if you are self employed. Thanks to anyone that can confirm or rebut my opinion. I did fake a return in ATX and the contribution was allowed, but I don't want to take that as gospel.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. Fighting depression is a terrible battle. Sending prayers.

Total Tax Office
-
I just had a W2 where my client lived in Missouri, never set foot in Arkansas, but they withheld AR. Their home office was in AR. I don't think that it makes it right, but the client didn't want to mess with them.
-
I get Total Tax office, so I pay more, but I'm starting to wonder if I should look for something else, since I don't seem to be very important.
-
I would still do the Schedule C, just to hope to avoid any matching problems.

How much did he have to pay for each phone? That would help me to know how I would handle it and what % of business use are they using?
