I would decide based on how much time and effort I want to spend on this person that left me already. How much extra liability and stress will it impose on me and will I be able to prepare the return without falling behind on something else. Can you get paid for a PITA fee without them leaving again? Obviously, they don't value your services or they would not have left just based on price.

I am so happy that I found a great guy at PPL on Thursday before this happened. I have been trying for over a year to get a deceased client's refund back for her son and they have given him so many hoops to jump through that it was ridiculous. It was a straight forward return with no issues that we could see. We gave them everything that they asked for. When I called again Thursday, it took 45 minutes on hold at various times, but he actually said that the previous people did not do their job. He had it all straightened out and said that if the money does not show up in 12 weeks, that we have to go to the Taxpayer Advocate. I suppose now that it will get shoved on someone's back burner, but I feel better that at least someone tried to help.

My husband was special ordering Ba Tampte at a supermarket here in Omaha after he discovered them by accident. He did say that the last few were not as good, so he started making him own from recipes that he found online. He pickles everything and everyone else loves them. He does too many fermented ones and I don't like them at all.

Thanks! That is what I thought. I just found out that it is not Wells Fargo. My clients had used WF previously for their QCDs but changed to a local financial company. This guy is apparently clueless and does not want to take the time to look anything up. I told them to have him reissue the checks again and to try to do it correctly. Bonnie

One of my clients is having an issue with Wells Fargo and their QCD. First, WF wanted to print blank checks on their checkstock and have my client write them to the charity. I said no, that WF should print them. Now WF wrote the checks like this: Charity Taxpayer name Her address Does this seem ok? I just didn't think that her name should be on the check as payee at all, but maybe I am being too picky. Thanks! Bonnie

Only a few of my clients want digital copies. I wish that all of them did, but I may try to push it more because of the incredible waste of paper for the coming years.

I just went to a class where they said that their understanding is that a Mom and Pop that only have one or two rentals won't count for QBI and that anything that we try to use it on had better act like a business and and send out 1099s at the very least. They said that separate bank accounts would be helpful. I am sure that we are all going to hear different things based on interpretations.

Tom, I am reading the book now.

I'm checking all over to try to find a fix for whatever is going on. QuickBooks says that it's not their problem. I uninstalled the windows updates, but not all of the Word and Excel ones. I guess I may have to take the computer in, because repairing the .NET framework (QB suggested fix) looks like I could make matters worse. ATX and all of my other programs seem to be fine. I am so ! I see that this has happened recently to other people, but mainly with Windows 10. My stupid computer won't do a system restore to two days ago. I so wish that I could afford to retire and go do something less stressful, like babysit for 10 kids. Thanks! Bonnie

What company do you use for Webinars?
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to NECPA in NEBRASKA's topic in General Chat
I just found the topic from September and it was super helpful. I should have added recommendations after CPE, since that was too short. Thanks for all of the ideas. Bonnie -
I honestly did search for Continuing Education, CPE, and Continuing Ed on the forums, but did not find anything current. I think that I will change companies for my tax update webinars, due to terrible reviews from employees, etc for the company that I have used for many years. I always attend 2 days here, but try to get the rest of them as webinars. Has anyone seen any impressive ones yet this year? I really need to nail down the QBI, etc. Hopefully, it won't all change as soon as I learn it. I have already used Basics and Beyond this year and am happy with them, but I would like another new tax update to see if they cover other items. Thanks for any ideas.

I would spend most of the time on OBI and depreciation.

I had the same problem yesterday. I finally found it. I just tried to get in to check again and they locked my account. This is so annoying. I tried to change my password and it said that the answer to my security question was incorrect. That is absolute BS, because I answered it correctly. I hate their website with a passion.

Microsoft to charge monthly for Windows 7 updates
NECPA in NEBRASKA replied to Abby Normal's topic in General Chat
Hopefully, the screams of their customers will make them back down. I don't know if they will care or not. -
AVG's update messed with Windows Explorer or another computer. It was not encrypted, so I was able to perform a system restore. My work computer has been limping along every since I got it back from shop. I was continually having to force stop Explorer and run a new one or restart the computer totally when it had done enough work or sat too long (whatever windows decided was enough) . I uninstalled AVG and after some research, I installed Comodo. I don't know if that will help, but at least Windows has been alive for several hours. AVG reinstalled the update on the other computer and it went crazy again. I may install a different antivirus on it, to see if it works better with Windows 7 than Comodo. I know that one of these days I am going to have to upgrade Windows, but I already have an Acer laptop with Windows 10 and I've never been in love with it. I keep seeing that 10 has it's own issues.

The only live seminars that I go to anymore are Basics & Beyond. I have attended them since the 90s when they were called Back to Basics and I always learn good stuff. They have live webinars also and I have purchased some of them. Most of their speakers are funny and entertaining so I don't have to fight sleep until after lunch. I don't recognize as many people as I used to when I go so they either got smart and retired, died or are taking their CPE online. I do take a courses online every year with Vern Hoven and Sharon Krieder and many free ones from CPA Acadamy. I do enjoy the live webinars, because I can wear my sweats and fix my own lunch. I take the classes from my liability insurance every couple of years and I always want to go work anywhere else because they petrify me.

Catherine, How do I know if I have partition software? I'm sorry to be such a dummy. I used to feel somewhat competant about my computers, but this is throwing me for a loop and I am petrified that this will happen again. I know that getting hacked is the worst thing that could ever happen to me, but I'm about ready for the good old days of 1979 when I was preparing returns in pencil before review.

I could not even get to Windows because the AVG update corrupted my user profile. I just got the call that it is back up and running again. It took them longer than they expected because of Symantec encryption. I am ecstatic, because I was envisioning a new computer and restoring everything.
-
I am using Windows 7 Professional. This Symantec Encryption is a huge pain in the butt.
-
Catherine, I had no idea that I needed to have more users on my work computer. The encryption method is confusing, because it looks like someone that is not me has to log on so I'm probably taking it in to the computer hospital. This IRS mandated encryption is a good idea, but it makes everything above my head to fix anything.

Thanks, Judy! I will try this. I am so upset that I am obviously not searching correctly. I was still trying to get through the Microsoft options and then I got on the treadmill to work out my issues. My sister is going on vacation this week and my Mom has doctor and therapy appointments every day this week, so I am really upset about trying to get my work done.
-
I have been researching this on my own, but I can't seem to get by my Symantec Encryption program. AVG did an update and said that it needed to restart my computer. It appears that it corrupted my Windows user profile. I can get past the Encryption program, but can't figure out how to get into Safe Mode before Windows. This is so frustrating for me, because I'm not even sure that my regular IT guys will be able to help. They installed the Encryption program, but they aren't retailers for it. I did not know that until after it was installed. I will call them in the morning, but I was hoping that I could get back running on my own. I am also sick of having anti-virus updates cause problems for me. This is not the first time. I guess I will have to look for another. Thanks! Bonnie

Congratulations on your retirement. You will be missed.
