Why is the form (1040X) not ready yet? Some one brought me an amended return done at another tax office. So is the form not ready just here with ATX or is it an IRS issue?? Just curious. Eli

I think many oif them have to do with the rebate credit. It has been a bad year for timely deposits though. Way too many to keep track of now. Getting tired of hearing people asking I thought my refund was getting here this week.... Eli

Eli replied to BulldogTom's topic in General Chat
That is indeed good news. I have a couple of clients that have taken the loan so far. I'm not going to say anything to them just yet. Eli -

The following is from the IRS website: Exclusion of Income for Volunteer Firefighters and Emergency Medical Responders For tax years beginning after 2007 and before 2011, gross income does not include: Rebates or reductions of property or income taxes provided by a state or local government for providing services as a member of a qualified emergency response organization (defined below). Any such rebate or reduction reduces the amount of the income tax deduction for such taxes. Qualified payments made by a state or local government for providing services as a member of a qualified emergency response organization. The exclusion is limited to $30 multiplied by the number of months the member performs such services. A charitable deduction for expenses paid by the member in connection with performing such services must be reduced by any payment excluded from income. A qualified volunteer emergency response organization is any volunteer organization organized and operated to provide firefighting or emergency medical services for persons in a state or local jurisdiction and required by written agreement with that state or local jurisdiction to furnish such services. Client received a 1099 Misc in the amount of $2587.00. Using the above info is he allowed to deduct $360.00 from the the amount he received and if so how to report it as such? I didnt see any instructions on how to report it. Thank you! Eli

Client received a combined tax statement for forms 1098, 1099, 5498. It was a distribution from an HSA account. I have never worked with one of these before. Do I need to use form 8889 for this? Anything else in specific I may need to look for? Thank you!! Eli

Brain's a little fried here. Taxpayer supports household in Mexico. Claims both parents as dependents. States hers is the only source of income for the home. She rents an apt in Dallas, but goes home on a regular basis. I was thinking she could file as HoH. After reading pub 501 it seems she could, but would like some reassurance here. What ya think? Thanks!! Eli

Pedro, after printing the return I've been recreating the efile again. Sometimes if you print and close the return it gets rejected by the EFC. So now i create the efile, print & then recreate & close. Eli PS are you still working in Las Milpas right off of 281?

Client brings in last years bill from another tax prep firm. He said he was sent by a friend after being told the tax prep was free. So I look at the bill and it says...tax prep = FREE. IRS Form 8879 = $143.95 Simple 1040 couple of entries on the Sch A that didnt amount to over the standard deduction. Nice gimmicks huh?? lol Eli

If a couple does not have possession of the home they are having built, can they file this form? If not, can the return be amended later to file for the $7500.00 loan? The instructions I read are not very clear about amending. Thank you! Eli

That sounds so much nicer, Kea. Eli
