  1. Yes, so did I now and then on a quiz, just to see how many of them actually paid attention. It's surprising how consistent the results were in matching the final class standings. Those who actually took the time to read the instructions and follow them were the same ones who ended up at the top of the class. Go figure!
  2. Thanks, Daune. I appreciate it. By the way, here's something else that gave me a good laugh. Please read it all the way through. Comprehensive Final Exam Instructions: There are only 16 questions. Read all instructions and questions carefully before you begin. Time limit 4 hours. You may begin when you are ready. Biology 1) Create life. Estimate the differences in subsequent human culture if this form of life had developed 500 million years earlier, with special attention to its probable effect on the evolution/creation argument. Verify this estimation. Economics 2) Develop a realistic plan for refinancing the national debt. Trace the possible effects of your plan in the following areas: CEO compensation, the China trade balance, and minimum wage. Engineering 3) The disassembled parts of a high-powered rifle have been placed in a box on your desk. You will also find an instruction manual, printed in Swahili. In ten minutes a hungry Bengal tiger will be admitted to your room. Take whatever action you feel appropriate. Be prepared to justify your decision. English Literature 4) Rewrite, from memory, Atlas Shrugged -- but with a counter point of view. You will find 1,500 sheets of paper under your chair. General Knowledge 5) Describe in detail. Be objective and specific. Geography 6) Draw a detailed map of the world showing the location of all armed conflicts. Extra credit: mark an "X" over the exact hiding place of Osama Bin Laden, and calculate how many hundred miles he is from the nearest American soldier. History 7) Describe the history of all religions from their earliest origins to the present day. Prove which is best in a manner that will convince the members of all other religions to convert. Logic 8) Using accepted methodology, prove all four of the following: That the universe is infinite; that truth is beauty; that there is no little person who turns off the light in the refrigerator when you close the door, and that you are the person taking this exam. Now disprove all of the above. Show all work. Management Science 9) Define Management. Define Science. How do they relate? Why? Create a generalized algorithm to optimize all managerial decisions. Implement your algorithm on either a GE 645, CDC 7600, IBM 360/195, or PDP-8. Your program should include all software necessary to support 100 interactive consoles. Mathematics 10) Calculate PI to two million decimal places and, by using this result, calculate the volume of the galaxy to 1,999,999 decimal places. Medicine 11) Behind your desk you will find a razor blade, a piece of gauze, and a bottle of scotch. Remove your appendix. Do not suture until your work is inspected. Music 12) Write a piano concerto. Orchestrate and perform it with full orchestra. You will find a piano under your seat. Philosophy 13) Why? Explain your answer. Physics 14) Explain the nature of matter. Include in your answer an evaluation of the impact of the development of mathematics on science, plus the possible effect of electromagnetic radiation on the global pollution. Political Science 15) On the desk behind you is a red phone. Start World War III. Report at length on its socio-political effects, if any. Psychology 16) Employing principles from the major schools of psychoanalytic thought, successfully subject yourself to analysis. Make appropriate personality evaluations and changes, bill yourself, and fill out all appropriate medical insurance forms. Then do the same to the person on your immediate left. Final instruction: Note that the instructions at the top told you to read all questions before starting. If you have not made any marks on your answer sheet you may write your name at the top and it turn in for an "A" grade. If you have started answering any question, you must complete all of them. Good Luck.
  3. Thank you, Daune. Things are looking better, but we have a long way to go still. When you get into your 60's you just don't heal as fast, I think. But my many friends on this board do bring joy into my life.
  4. Thanks for the feedback. I sure hope that I do get to go to the one I paid for!
  5. Why would they have the blanks at the top of the form for a fiscal year 1041 if you could not file one?
  6. This is just too cute not to pass on....have fun, I have no idea how they do this: TYPE IN a command under the dog and see what happens... sit, roll over, down, stand, sing, dance, shake, fetch, play dead, etc., and...it's also very cute if you type in a command that's not recognized...!! Make sure you type in "Kiss", too, but do it last!!! http://www.idodogtricks.com/index_flash.html
  7. No reason that I know of, I never log out.
  8. And keep in mind that if your case has room, multiple smaller hard drives may make good sense in several ways. One gigantic drive means everything is all in one basket. Two 80 gigs may be a better choice than one 160 gig drive.
  9. As I read your original post, you did not have a "loan from s/h". You had a "loan to s/h". Am I wrong?
  10. Thank you, Eli. He's now out of ICU and working hard on getting well, but won't be out of hospital until next week. At least that is the doctor's estimate. It's hard, but we're hanging in and I feel extra strength coming from the support of my friends. Please keep us in your prayers. KC
  11. Am I the only one who wants to correct her grammar? That "I have spoke to..." really grates on my nerves! Please, tell her the correct tense in this sentence is 'spoken', Monkeyman. KC
  12. If I understand you correctly, I don't believe you need to amend, since this does not affect the income.
  13. He's been moved to a rehab hospital, now, Tom. It's still a long road, but it's looking better. I'm at the hospital most of the day, and just look in here for a minute or two now and then when I get a chance. Sorry I did not catch your joke.... Please keep the prayers coming, I need all the help I can get!!!!
  14. Sch C is on page 2 of the 1120 form. It is a section, not a seperate schedule.
  15. Knowing that they planned to replace it, I would not remove it. I am sure you could get arguments both ways, but its sort of like the situation where you have a machine that is damaged, and not usable for the second half of the year, but is in the process of being repaired. You do not take it off the depreciation schedule, and when the repair is completed, you add that cost to the basis. In this case, you know that they replaced it, so keeping it on the schedule is appropriate.
  16. Unless the lawyers were knowingly participating in the fraud, there is no reason why they should repay their fees, the crooks should have to repay it. The lawyers earned what they got. Only if they knew that their clients were lying to defraud the defendants, would they have any reason to repay anything. My guess is that they were victims of these crooks, too. No sane lawyer would participate knowingly in such a fraud, and lose their law license for such a relatively small fee.
  17. Since it was replaced, you do not have a 'disposition'. You just adjust the basis to reflect what happened. And you can generate a statement by using the 'Elections' form and the tab for 'Blank Statements' and type your own statement.
  18. He is now in a rehab hospital, so things are looking up. Still a long way to go, so keep praying for us both, please. I need the strength and he needs the healing. KC
  19. Thank you to all of you. I truely appreciate you all. KC
  20. I won't be on the board much for a while. My husband had a stroke Friday, and is still in ICU. Please pray for him and for me.
  21. Here in my part of AR, it's so dry that the Baptists are starting to Baptize by sprinkling, the Methodists are using wet-wipes, the Presbyterians are giving out rain-checks, and the Catholics are praying for the wine to turn back into water! Now THAT's Dry. [Although we are hoping to get a little rain today, maybe, please! ] How is it where you are?
  22. OK, then we are basically in agreement, Jack.
  23. Yes, the SFR that the IRS prepared is not considered a 'filed' return, so the filing of the return should result in removing the debt from the old years. Then, you should be able to get the refund that was applied to the old year refunded to the client. I'd wait a couple of months to allow it to get processed and in the system, then contact the IRS and ask for the refund that was erroneously applied, if you have not gotten it back by then. IF they say no, contact TA office for help.
  24. After miserably failing an audit of employee computer security measures in 2005, the Internal Revenue Service has again tested to see if it was easy to anonymously call tax agency employees to talk them out of their computer passwords. In 2005, 35 percent gave up their passwords; in the more recent test, 61 percent did so, says the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration -- nearly back to the 71 percent level of the 2001 audit. "This is especially disturbing because the IRS has taken many steps to raise employee awareness of the importance of protecting their computers and passwords," said Inspector General J. Russell George. The audit report says that the lax password security allows the caller to access taxpayer records. (AP)
  25. Jack, the IRS allows deductions, but not in contradiction of state laws, generally. Now, in most states, for a loan to be enforceable, it has to comply with the law, and state laws on corporations normally require that loans to and from a corp and its shareholders be approved by the Board of Directors. This is where a properly recorded vote authorizing the loan protects the shareholders. Here's a sample from the IRS audit guide for a vet practice, that points out what they are looking for: Auditing a small to medium size veterinary corporate practice is much like an audit of any other type of corporation. The nature of the audit procedures selected and the extent of their application depends upon the degree of reliance that can be placed on the system of internal accounting controls. Many veterinary practice corporations are closely held and may have related parties working within the corporation. Inquiries into the corporation's accounting procedure and staff are a factor in determining the depth and scope of the audit. Before beginning the audit, the following may be helpful in planning the depth and scope of the audit: Articles of incorporation, bylaws, and stock certificate book Minutes of board meetings Organization chart Chart of accounts Contracts and agreements, such as leases Description of the accounting system and internal controls Loan agreements and other evidences of indebtedness and relationship to a debtor (education loans of shareholders) Copies of any prior audit reports by federal, state, or local agencies Copies of prior/subsequent returns and related returnsCopy of pension plan, letter of determination, and Form 5500s
