  1. In PA, you file a local return for where you live. The tax collector to whom you send the return will take care of requesting the money from the location where the money was withheld. Just be sure to include the W-2 showing the WNRTN when you file the local return. ATX has a generic local return if the locale where your client lives does not have a specified return. Many locales use Central Tax Collectors, Berkheimer, or Keystone Municipal Collections. Many more do their own collecting. I think last I heard there were some 520 local tax collectors in PA. Googling your clients place of residence should give you most of the info you need. If not, let me know and I will see what I can find.
  2. Assuming the bank puts funds back into your checking account to reimburse you for the money withdrawn from the ATM, you are correct. You would credit the ATM account when the bank reimburses you (and debit checking) and you would debit ATM and credit checking when you replenish the ATM. The "ATM Machine" account is more akin to an "other current assets" account than a "cash" account because of your agreement with the bank.
  3. I am also networked using Server 2003. I do not create efiles on any of the other eight workstations so I can not speak to that. But I can say, knock on wood, I have not had this issue on rollovers. And, yes, it does not happen on all returns.
  4. First of all, why are you working part time at this time of the year. I have already put in 10 days this week. Yes, I have been experiencing that problem from the get go. I just assumed it was a memory issue - the computer's, not mine. The hanging box does not seem to have affected any data on any of the returns or efiles (as evidenced by reopening a few returns, after I closed out while the box was still there, and confirming everything is in order). So I have chosen to just ignore it.
  5. My reading has indicated that the rationing is being done on a filing location basis. Perhaps you are in an area where the filing was heavier than the others that are saying they filed later than you and are already acked. This whole issue is not the software company's fault - and not likely the IRS's. If you want to vent, call the boneheads in Washington who initiated this mess with their incredible procrastination.
  6. I don't know for sure, but maybe they ARE being held under the IRS's rationing plan and that is the planned date of submission.
  7. I picked up the 1040-ES in yesterday's update. Or maybe it was this morning. But I got it.
  8. Caller: I need to make an appointment for you to look over my divorce papers. Me: Does this impact your 2010 tax return? Caller: No. That is already done. Me: Are you a client? Caller: I was years ago. Me: Hold please. (Check my archived file list for the name. Not there, so this person has not graced our doorway since before 1998.) Me again: I will be happy to make an appointment for you in late April. Caller: No, I wanted you to look at it now. Me: Not gonna happen. Caller: I will check my schedule and get back to you.
  9. Yes on the EFTPS. Just had a client call and say she could not get on the EFTPS website. So I tried for her and it reacted the same way. She was able to call it in with her EIN and PIN.
  10. Does this mean we can no longer stock pile returns? I have mine all around me helping me sit up straight. If I can no longer stock pile, I just might topple over. :)
  11. I agree with bcolleen. But, don't get angry or defensive. Simply tell the person that you would be happy to review it but that would require you having to sign the return as the preparer and your fee would be the same as if you had prepared the return because the due diligence that the IRS require means that you will have the same amount of time in it that you would have had had you prepared it. Good luck!
  12. "Correct" is the answer to both of your questions. Own up and your "best client" should be forgiving. Good luck!
  13. I don't get it. How come Gwen does not have a snow shovel in her hands? To continue my story from before - after the early 90's thing, I went out and bought my wife a big cub cadet self propelled snow blower with those track things for wheels. She gets all bundled up and goes out and cleans our driveway and the neighbors driveways and the side walks on both sides of the street. It's fun to watch in that a neighbor across the street got a snow blower recently, albeit, not as big as hers, and they will compete to see who can get out first. I was leaving for the office the other morning at ten minutes to six in the morning and the neighbor was already out - and we do live in a residential area. I think next year I will fire my office snow plower and buy my wife one of those big forty eight inch snow throwers. BTW, have I mentioned how much I don't like Tom? :)
  14. Oh quit cher whining! I just heard this morning that spring is only 53 days away. Of course around here the arrival of spring only means that we only have six more weeks of winter. No wait, I am getting that confused with a furry ground animal. I was born and raised in the snow belt, and you are correct, they get it year after year. This year is an annomaly. About all you can do is grin and bear it. I now reside just south of the snow belt and we have received more snow than the folks IN the snowbelt. The good news for your situation is that you are not the lone ranger in your neighborhood. All of your clients are going through the same thing themselves. So they should be prepared when they arrive to negotiate whatever is presented before them. As to the snow, I remember back in the early nineties we were having a lot of snow this particular year. And by March, I had done all of the shoveling that I wanted to do. So I gave my snowshovel a heave and look up to the sky and yelled "NO MAS"..... Apparently HE does not speak spanish. Given your choices, I always choose lunch first.
  15. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Hard work really does pay off.
  16. I hate smart people! Really, though, congratulations to her and you! You might want to counsel her a little (yea, like that is going to happen - a parent counsel his/her college child ) about the tolls that pace will take. Way back when I was young and stupid, I was taking a full college load (whatever that was at the time), working from four in the afternoon to three in the morning in a factory seven days a week, and I was three months into my new marriage. Tell her to take time to stop and smell the roses. Well, there probably aren't too many roses in Kent right now, but you get the drift. Oh, and BTW, the school I was attending at that time - Kent State University. Go Golden Flashes!!
  17. Yes, I do remember the tiger - and I miss that. I remember, still, the first time I heard that - I did not know which way to run. And the parrot? Come on KC, he was cute. I have had reason to go back to the earlier years', and you are correct KC - they have come a long long way. We kind of miss how far they have come because it has been an evolution; but going back 10 years at one time gives a real appreciation for the progress.
  18. Really? What did the software look like back then? Did you have one of those systems you had to peddle to make it work? I also am a user from the Saber days. I don't grumble too much about what deal someone else may get that I don't. This software has made me alot of money over the years. It is a good product fairly priced - even without the price break. As to negotiating prices, and this has nothing to do with ATX, but my wife used to own a gift and card shop. And we joke about the people that would come in and complain about the price; come back when the price was rock bottom on sale - and then ask to have the item gift wrapped for free.
  19. There is a new method to test the transmit. Go to the efile manager and click on the file dropdown menu. The next to last item says "test transmission". Click that.
  20. Click "Start", "All Programs", and see if they are listed there. If so, just click to open. If not, a call to support should fix it.
  21. Interesting. Thanks!
  22. According to the mailing instructions tab on the PA EF Info, a signed Form PA 8879 is required to be kept with the other documents listed there "if the taxpayer was not present to input their own PIN". So with the exception of my own return, I guess I will be using the 8879 on all of my returns. None of my clients are around when I am preparing their return. It also says to use the 8453 "unless PIN signature option was elected". OK, I did my part. Now you tell me where to elect the PIN signature option so the 8453 is not checked on electronic filing info form.
  23. Terry D is on the right path. And SSA is not answering their phone today because it is a holiday. I just found this on the ATX support web site. And from this: "You can find detailed filing instructions for federal and state annual reports on the Filing Info tab of Form W-2." Hope that helps. : W-2 e-file features and limitations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- These are the features and limitations for e-filing federal and state W-2 returns created with ATX software. 24. Sounds like an issue for support. They can jump on your system and attempt to correct the problem. Might need a re-intall. I am also using a server environment running Server 2003 with XP on the workstations and have not had this issue.
  25. I would double your prior fee and adjust for whatever annual fee increase you would normally have. That way you both win.
