Well, I just cancelled out of it this morning. Started it up when I left the office this evening and I'll see where it gets to in the morning. Really don't have time for this. I need to know where I stand on efiles.

Receiving old acks after updating to Ver. 12.13 Answer ID 14306 | Document ID | Published 04/08/2013 10:54 AM | Updated 04/08/2013 12:04 PM After updating ATX to Version 12.13, you notice that each time you transmit or attempt to receive acks, you start receiving acks from weeks or months ago that have already been downloaded. We currently plan to correct this problem with a later update so that this does not happen going forward. If you have already applied the Version 12.13 update, follow the appropriate steps below depending on whether or not you have already begun downloading the previously received acks again. To solve this problem when you have not already downloaded the acks Log in to ATX with each user that does not typically transmit or receive acks. Open Preferences, and then click OK. Close ATX. Repeat steps 1-3 for each user. Note: Do not skip any users in this step-- you must do them all. Log in as the user you typically use to transmit or receive acks. Open Preferences, and then click OK. Close ATX. Open ATX again and work as usual. Do not pick up prior acks unless you first import or restore returns. To solve this problem when you have already downloaded the acks Log in to ATX with each user that does not typically transmit or receive acks. Open Preferences, and then click OK. Close ATX. Repeat steps 1-3 for each user. Note: Do not skip any users in this step. Have each user do this before continuing, or else the problem will reoccur. Log in using the user that you typically use when transmitting or receiving acks. Open Preferences, and then click OK. Close ATX. Open ATX again and work as usual. Once you pick up all old acks one last time, the program will return to functioning normally. I am trying to pull down some acts this morning and I notice that the first "requesting ACKS" line was dated MARCH 9th - and progressing very slowly in increments of seconds, not even minutes. So I check the knowledge base and found the above. The part that made me nearly swear is the "we know about the problem and will fix it in a future update". This is April 9th people, there is not much future left for updates. Am I suppose to just sit here and watch this most tedious progression? After a half hour it is all the way up to March 16. I am tired and I am cranky and I did not need this this morning. OK, Ron, deep breathes, deep breathes. In and out, in and out.

I wish I understood psychiatry better. I am certain there is a name for the stage we are in. We are well seated in fatigue and exhaustion. So if we reach the point where everything seems funny maybe that is the "I don't give a crap anymore" stage. Is that a pyschiatry term? I think I will just reside here for awhile.

My alarm wakes me at 4:10. I am in the office by 5:00. Eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at my desk. Out of the office between 9 and 10. Asleep by 10:45. Besides being grateful for you all, I am also grateful that there is an end to this madness. Like a lot of you, I have had 3 days off since the first of the year and am looking forward to getting back to my part time 60 hours per week job. This truly is a GREAT forum. Thanks all!

Not for federal. Some states may require it.

Oh, and my favorite cheese for tonight? The kind that will be on the large pizza I am picking up at 8:30. One of clients makes the best pizza I have found - and I have eaten pizza in a lot of different places.

Point made Catherine. I accompanied my wife to the grocery store the other night after a 17 hour day and she asked me what I would like and I just stopped the cart and looked at her and could not even think what to say nor could I even speak. After several seconds the only thing I could come up with is "I am through making decisions for the day". I think for all of us (if I can be so bold to speak for all of us) fatigue and exhaustion have found their home.

Yes

Correct me if I am wrong because I know more about the west border than the east and I do not have time to look, but Ohio and PA reciprocity applies only to employee compensation. Might not be the same with NJ.

It depends on the occasion and the wine - so I've been told. :)

SFA is correct. You are calculating the PA tax on the total profit. Tax credits or income allocation is in order.

About the same, maybe even down somewhat.

What do you say when an ATX sales rep calls you to renew early?

Call me back in September. -
Something wrong, because mine have been working like clock work. I have done at least five today. I do not mark my returns complete so that might be an issue although I wouldn't know why.

Can it really be true???? 12.13 an answer to prayers?

Let me caution you that when you open a return in the new update, there is a screen that pops up to tell you what is going on. Made my heart jump the first time it popped up. My immediate thought was, "what now". But now that I have seen it a couple of times, I like it. -
Sounds more like the normal around here. We staple the return into a folder and put the workpapers in a separate envelope. If the return is too substantial, we will use a second folder for the state and local returns.

It is another good improvemnet. I updated a couple of hours ago and it is going strong. Ray, I believe most all of us are in the same boat. But think extension. I am down to under 20 that were in by our cutoff and the 40 (an ever increasing number) that have come in since the cutoff and are coming in are being told that if we can not complete them by the 15th they will be extended and we will begin working on returns again in June. It has relieved a great deal of pressure here. -
Ray, are you googling from the same processor that is opening ATX? If so, that could be part of the problem. I realized early on that ATX needed all the resources avallable to work at a reasonable speed so I work ATX in as sterile of an environment that I can create. I do all of my email and Internet searches on my iPad when ATX is working and I have not had nearly the slow speed issues that I have read about. On another note, I love the 8949 import. Imported around 130 stock transactions last night with all columns filled and it took less than ten minutes including opening the software and manipulating the data in excel. How sweet is that?

Oh yeah, she gets them. And I do not spend a moments time on them. I just tell her to pay them.

I have the client sign a power of attorney and I request the abatement via e-services.

I am still deliberating the tax this farmer is going to pay. 1,000 sales per year? This farmer has to be in the money. And what would be available for write offs? Um, nevermind, we don't need to go there.

I do have a client like this. She actually has two S-corps and thinks filing 13 months after the deadline is current filing. This has ben going on for years. She sent me a package of notices last week which included a note saying she is trying to get the 2011 information to me in the next couple of weeks. She lost an adult son a month ago as the result of a brain tumor. Am I compassionate? Absolutely. But the 2011 return was due long before her son was diagnosed. Ours can be a very difficult business at times.

You are being too generous Jack. My calls usually go like this: hello, Ron speaking. Client says "yeah, what's up? I need an extension." Me: " OK, we will get it done. Thanks! " Client "OK - Later!" That conversation takes 20 seconds at most. But I do have to admit, after I hang up, I always hope the client was talking about his tax return. :)

$195 per shareholder per month late. That is the late filing penalty. Since they are chronic late filers, if in fact they are, I would not hold out much hope of getting the penalties abated.
