  1. Well can not do 0% on one and 100% on the other. If I do 0% then 8962 will not generate. Just gonna split it 67% and 33% and be done with it.
  2. Thanks. I will look it over. I imagine the Son will use 0% Thanks again Judy.
  3. In 2023 a married couple with a 20 year old college student had Marketplace insurance (all three covered). Filed Mom and Dad and claimed Son (no college credits, full scholarship). Filed Son (who worked) and he didn't claim himself. No biggie. Well... Come this year, the son dropped out of college January 1st. Got a descent job and moved out in Feb., and bought a house. And... had a child with his live in girlfriend (does not work). Great he can file, claim himself, the child and girlfriend. He will get a nice refund. Well, Parents come this year with a 1095A in hand with Mom, Dad and Son listed on it. Delima is, I know the Sons return will be rejected once efiled and the error will say "efile database expects a 8962 or binary attachment with ACA Explanation must be present". I use Proseries and could go into the 1095A screen and check the box that No 1095A should not have been issued and attach the ACA Explanation. But, he was covered. Anyone have one of these situations ? Should I enter the parents 1095A info on his return too ? What's your take on how to handle it ?
  4. Spill the Wine !!! Yes I love the 60's too. In rotation is everything from Benny Goodman to Pink Floyd. Will check out Magical Mystery Doors on YouTube if they are on there. Great band name.
  5. We are not open to the public on weekends so we can get stuff done. Plus I can crank the music !!!! Nothing better than classic Sabbath, Aerosmith, Steely Dan and Zep !!!

    1095A question

Fingers crossed. Thanks for everyone's input. I just cant see letting them take the credit when they didn't pay out of pocket. And if the return is rejected we will just snail mail it. Lets pray if DOGE sends taxpayers refunds that we will not be the ones reconciling whether they got a refund or not. But we all know we will.

    1095A question

The return you sent with just total on 1095A screen went through fine efiling ?

    1095A question

That got rid of the errors. Question now is will the IRS figure the SLCSP and adjust the return ? Proseries has been a pain this year. Especially with the NOL. With NOL I just manually attached Form 172 and turned off error check.

    1095A question

    Will try that.

    1095A question

I enter in column A the amount on form 1095A they received from the marketplace. Column B fields are all "salmon or pink" meaning inputs are required. The error states that the SLCSP has to be entered. Thus my asking if you just efile convert with error checking off. But yes form 8962 will not activate populate unless column B is inputted.

    1095A question

Professional. Been using it for decades Cant even override 8962 figures.

    1095A question

If you do not enter any amount in column b (slcsp) Proseries will throw up errors. Do you just convert with error check off ? But someone mentioned above the IRS would look up the SLCSP and adjust the return. Then the clients would receive a nice refund. Back to square one.

    1095A question

Proseries automatically fills out 8962 once 1095a is entered. Can not delete it. Form 1095A has to be included or the return will be rejected. Catch 22

    1095A question

I feel same way. They do not qualify for any PTC. But if I leave column C on form 1095A blank, they get a few thousand back on their tax return (PTC). If I put in the amount they were reimbursed then they would owe a few thousand. Which is wrong. I can not leave form 1095A off the return or it will be rejected. Maybe a mailed in return is in order with a note.

    Client received the money.

    1095A question

Maybe I am looking at this the wrong way. Maybe they are entitled to the APTC they didnt get. Based on what they paid and their income they are. Who cares if his union reimbursed it. Just doesn't seem correct. But then again we all remember the stupid stimulus payments. How some got the payment and shouldn't have and didn't have to repay them. And the other stimulus situations depending on filing status.

    1095A question

Thats the issue. If 1095A was issued, then the return will be rejected. The IRS expects it and form 8962. Spouse paid full price for the lowest cost plan. And was reimbursed by the husbands union. Im using Proseries. But there was no advanced credits on the government side. More or less a wash.

    1095A question

Doesn't work that way. 8962 automatically populates itself.

    1095A question

I searched the IRS site to see if any Market Place premiums reimbursed by outside of the government sources needed to go in column C and could not find anything stating it does. Thus my question. If I claim the reimbursement in column C, they owe a few grand. If I leave column C blank as it is on the 1095A, then they get back a few grand.

    1095A question

No 1099 from the union. Tax free retirement benefit. The union just reimburses them the full premium amount. They also get free lawyer services too !!! Crazy. My grandfather retired from there in the 50's.
  21. First time having this situation. Married couple. Husband retired and under Medicare. Spouse doesn't work and had Market Place Insurance for the whole year. 1095A column A has premium she paid. Column B was blank. So of course I went on HeathCare.gov and figured the SLCSP. Column C is blank also. Well, The premiums were reimbursed by the husbands old employer (part of their union contract). Does that reimbursement through his union go in column C ? As I mentioned column C on the 1095A is blank. If I leave it blank as the 1095A shows they get a refund. If I place the union reimbursed amount in there then they owe quite a bit. What's your opinion or what's the correct way to handle it ?
  22. Well if they have to cut IRS jobs, why not assert authority over preparers ? Make us their "agents". What an overreach !!! And we all know it will fail like it has many times in the past.
  23. In the late 60's or early 70's there was a song called DOA by a band called BloodRock. Creepy song about a plane crash. Anyway how about "The Pencil Pushers" Not strictly Tax related but works.
  24. Client 1. I get a few of these each year. I do not help them prepare their own taxes. 90% come back. I even get calls for help from people we have never done !!! I just hang up. Client 2 So these are new clients ? If new and they do not respond after several attempts, then your probably out your time and money. Drop them !!! If prior clients and there has never been an issue in past years, maybe give them some time to respond.
  25. If they have done their own in the past with TT, then make sure they get you a copy of their depreciation report. Ughhh !! Seems when we pick up new farm accounts its always the ones with hundreds of assets to enter. That first year is always a pain.
