MOM and sons were joint owners of stock. MOM's SS# is listed first. MOM sells stock shortly before death. After MOM dies, sons sell rest of stock. All stock sold is reported in MOM's SS #. The first sale I will report for MOM with rest of income before death. How do I sell the rest? Do I need to make a nominee 1099, or just sell on sons tax return? MOM added sons' names to stock. Are they able to use stepped up basis in 1/3 of stock, or all of stock?

When I error check, it says (in red) that if line 26 is more that 0, sch d or 4797 has to be filed. Sch D is in the return and the 6252 amount has flowed over. I have filled in that the install sale is to be reported on Sch d. It was only land sold. What other boxes or lines might I have missed?

Last year I efiled this address, but won't let me now. Warning says I need state and zipcode, which aren't applicable. Can I efile some way?

When I opened my efile tab this morning, columns that had been on the right side of the screen are now next to the names and the columns that were next to the names on the left side are further on the right. What happened and how do I fix? I like names , whether complete box, accepted column , so I can see this at a glance. Help

She is working for tuition, too, but that's not taxable. parents say they support. On the MW hope credit, the only expenses we are using is the room and board expenses provided for us by the school. As I understand, eligible to the parent if parent is claiming the dependent? If room and board is worked out by daughter at the school, can the parent still get the extra deduction on the room and board on the MW hope credit? Just gets more confusing'

DAughter goes to college in mw disaster area. College has work program, daughter works for room and board and tuition. We pay taxes on the room and board scholarship on daughter's return. College puts out room and board charges. Can I take the Hope credit (mw disaster expenses) on the parent's return? For support issues, is the daughter providing her own support by working for tuition and room and board? Do parents have to contribute more to support than the total of tuition and room and board?

I had a couple today, husband was self employed and receives soc sec. He received his $250. Wife was a teacher, does not draw any ss and she said she received a $250 check, too. Doesn't make sense according to directions of Sch M

I have found two sources, one with low deductible and low limits, one with high deductible and high limits. How much limit and aggregate is necessary? Have never had a claim, but always the first time. Anyone have any recommendations?

TP wants to report the full sale this year instead of installment sale. I thought I had to make the election, but can't find it in the elections/statements part of the software. How do I do this?

How do you gage the E&O companies. I looked at the ATP, and seems very reasonable. I called a local agency and rates started at $1000. Does ATP have some sort of insurance rating? I couldn't find anything at NATP without going thru the "we'll give you three quotes deal" and you put all your information in and wait for a call or email. Was there a specific company at NATP, or where to go on the NATP website.

Yes, 2008. I even put it in again. I did the overide to finish the return, but I just expect it to calculate, and I'd like to know what I did wrong.

The return I'm working on won't check the child tax credit for dependent. I've filled in all birthdays, ss#, 12 months in home, what am I doing wrong? I can override, but like for everything to flow like it's supposed to. Any ideas where I've messed up?

What is the process to efile ptshps? I did the "create efile" and the authorization popped up for federal, but nothing for state of MO. Do I need a special number or authorization from IRS to do partnerships?

I had 4 rejects this morning too for the same reason, that's why I'm looking here for an answer. I may put name and PIN in today just to get it to go. Hopefully ATX will fix the problem so as not to have to retype all info on every return.

I did put in the amount, I guess what doesn't flow is the Partnerships income so that the health insurance premiums are deductible on the front page. On the line where the profit goes and there is a bunny hop to the K-1, but I don't know what to do from there. Line 5 of the Line 29 worksheet stays blank.

Partner pays his own health insurance. When I bunny hop from line 29 and put on that worksheet, my profits from the K-1 havent flowed to that page, so it gives me no deduction. The name of the ptrshp is in the upper box, but do I have to put something on the K-1? I just can't find, and I don't like to override. Any help?

I've changed the master form, now I'm trying to change back, but can't quite get the box big enough. Thanks for the imput.

I put in my assets, one purchased in Dec the other in May. I like to print out the detail sheet, it shows the client all their assets, not just the ones depreciating. When I look at the detail sheet, the May shows the date I put in, but the Dec date shows #######. I had another one earlier and when I changed from 12-31-09 to 12-01-09 it worked. But why? I checked and the state detail sheet has the correct date, no #####. HAs anyone else had this problem, or have I put something in wrong.

On another forum, they talked about the third party designee "preparer" not valid. We have to put in our name and PIN, etc. I checked my returns,and "preparer" is still being printed. Has anyone else heard this? And is there a place in the software to get my name put in the designee place?

Is there a form that the taxpayer needs to sign to give authorization for me, the preparer, to efile w-2's and 1099's? (Something similar to the 8879) In some discussion the 6847 was brought up and I thought maybe I had missed something I needed to be doing.

Moving to the top again, sorry. How are others handling the 1099 efile authorization? Can anyone help me on this subject?

Efiling 1099's and W-2's for clients need a 6847 signed by owner? It's a consent to release info to the state. I don't send the state a 1099 anyway, only Federal. Anyway, do I need that form signed for every 1099 and w-2? if doing w-2 and 1099's for the same person, will one form signed cover both? Does one have to be signed every year, or does one cover all years after the signature date? Does the 6847 need to be sent somewhere or do I keep in my records. The form doesn't pop up when the returned is checked. Any help and suggestions will be appreciated.

I have always used the drop down option of printing current page , so as not to get pages I don't want. I can't make it work in the 09 program. Is this my computer problem, a software change, preference change. Anyone else do this and have the problem? Anyone know how to fix. I don't like going into the print option for one page to look at.
