  1. I also know a preparer who still does them with pencil and paper. She calls me at least once a year with a question on something or other. This year it was the ACA. She is quite elderly and is doing a fantastic job as far as I can tell. She wants to keep her foot in the door because she, herself, has some rental properties.
  2. I have a client who WAS given the name and ss# of the person who took her as a spouse for a huge refund. Of course, who knows if that is really his name. (Only the Shadow knows for sure!!!!) She received a bill from the IRS for $30,000 that she owed from the year that she was compromised. She was the one who noticed that the SS on the letter was not hers. Wouldn't you think with some of these huge refunds, they would stop and check before issuing the money?
  3. You forget what business my men are in. We watch Wayne Carini chasing cars all the time.
  4. We are really cute. Most of my clients really like and comment on my presentation folders. Much nicer than a bunch of papers thrown together in a green and white envelope. I have a very few clients who want their copy of the return in a .pdf format. It doesn't cost that much for me to give them something in return for what they pay me.
  5. These are the small labels with the efile logo that you used to be able to get free from the IRS. Those of us who use them to adorn our finished returns are nearly out of them. Last week, my daughter-in-law created a template on Word that allows me to print them by the page and in living color.
  6. I just checked my acks and the client who had six states has acks on the Fed and ALL of the states. My sigh of relief can be heard 'round the world. Now, "only" 54 behind and appts all next week. BUT, I can now print e-file stickers. How about that Lion?
  7. I just filed one last night without it. Went through just fine.
  8. My son has an Asus T100 and likes it a lot. I, however, have my eye on that Surface Pro i5 for "someday"; and not "someday soon". Already bought two new laptops this year.
  9. I have a client with six states. WI gives a credit for the tax paid to other states. Form WI OS. He gets refunds from most of them and usually has to pay a little on WI.
  10. I am finding more and more of these. Not happy campers!
  11. I had one of these two years. House was repossessed and clients no longer lived there. Filed 982 for home mortgage and had no further issues.
  12. I am "Oh About" in my seventies and I have days like that. For instances; I have been searching two days for my extra office key which my assistant gave back to me. I put it somewhere so I would remember where it was. It is definitely "Oh about" somewhere.
  13. After the fact, they have seldom taken pictures. Of course, they never call and ask beforehand what they should do. Without pictures, I would not take that chance.
  14. I know of what you speak. Except that this mom died. They had every single item itemized; so who am I to complain except had to tell them they couldn't go over $5000 without an appraisal.
  15. History repeats itself. I have a client from Thailand, married to a man with a long Polish name. She uses her Thai name hyphenated to his Polish name. I remember way back when I had to get that to fit on the line and be accepted by e-file. NOTE: This is not a slur on Polish names as I am half Polish myself; and consider that my better half.
  16. It's that thing with a hose that lives in the dark, dark corner of the closet and never comes out during tax season. Also, my husband is doing laundry tonight while I work (and dally on this board).
  17. Troubled waters here..........57 behind at a minimum and more pouring in tomorrow. Most of mine are still frantic. The Ok, whenevers; have not come in yet. Alas....
  18. Nobody special here today, but did wrap up a wowzer of a set of three family returns. 21 year old student had 7 W2G forms for Gambling winnings. She had tax withheld on all of them. Question was who got the exemption; the student or the parents. Turns out that because she was a student under 24 and had all that "investment" income, she had to file a Kiddie Tax return and was ineligible to take the refundable part of the AOC. Ended up giving the student to the parents, who were owing without her. Filed the Kiddie tax for the student and she still got a large refund as did the parents. The things we go through for our clients, but wow am I relieved and happy to wrap this package up. Tomorrow morning...........moving on. (creeping on)
  19. Dear Clients.....my 6:30 PM client rescheduled for three weeks out (Yeah!!!); I have a 2:00 hair appointment and have no idea what time I will be home on this beautiful, sunny 50 degree day. A am actually going shopping for necessities and might even buy myself some flowers, Rita! Dear Hair Salon Client....(who just called) I am coming there to have my hair done, not to discuss your tax situation and the fact that I cannot read your writing and/or you are upset because you don't want anyone else in the salon hearing what we are talking about. You just blasted a hole in my beautiful day!!!!
  20. I used export and import just yesterday. I worked on a return at another location; exported to jump drive; came home and imported into my main computer to finish, print and efile. AND, this year you have the option of overriding the existing return when you import. Before, it always imported it as a "copy of" which was terribly annoying.
  21. Actually I own some stock in FTD. Sounds like I am getting away from this madness for two days this weekend. Of course that puts me that much farther behind, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
  22. NOT!!! I just want to write off flowers and hugs. I get plenty of hugs, but no flowers. However, my right hand did bring homemade chicken dumpling soup for lunch yesterday.
  23. I am working as hard as I can and cannot get past being 60 behind. They just keep coming. Phone and fax are crazy and e-mails are nearly as bad. And, then, the blasted drop-ins. I wish I could get out to buy MYSELF some flowers like SOME people on this board.
  24. WI is no longer sending out 1099G unless you ask for it. It is just a known that if you deducted it in the prior year, you have to include it in income in the current year. ATX recognizes this. Even if it is populated on the Sch A and itemized deductions are not used; ATX recognizes that and does not include the WI prior year refund in the income. It appears to me that it got included automatically when the W2 forms were filled in and was used along with the charity and mortgage income. This is nothing new.
  25. It is taxable IF it was used as an itemized deduction in the prior year.
