  1. None of the above in the cases that I have cited. I am well aware of the 1095A and identity issues. Those clients get a letter.
  2. I have returns filed last week with the refunds already in the bank. My original cases were both accepted returns. It is the refunds that are the issue. No rhyme nor reason.
  3. My life is all about "waiting" these days. That includes waiting to finish extensions and waiting for clients to pick up and pay for extended returns.
  4. I have a couple of clients who filed and were accepted in February and still have not received their returns. The IRS site says that they are still being processed. I called the Practitioners line this AM and after much hemming and hawing and sitting on hold, I got the exact same message from them. "The returns are still being processed!" No rhyme! No reason! Take it or leave it. How do I explain that to clients who are checking "Where's my refund?" daily. I understand that they have to learn to wait, BUT, for two and one half months; and no answers. I fear the IRS system is badly broken. One of these is a lady who will turn 94 in May and has been filing virtually the same return with a few ups and downs, for many years. Don't they get that someone who is 94 might still have to file a tax return and get a refund? I am thoroughly disillusioned today!

    Done!

23 Extensions here; as well as 474 acks; counting all Fed and several different states. Not a terribly lot of ACA; but most of them problematical.

    Done!

Well, Rita, my hairdresser is my client. You are right about the mysteries of their returns. They can have a lot of things going on at one time. They can be an employee, a SE, and an SE renting chairs in a salon. Mine, for one, is extremely needy taxwise. BUT, she does a great job on my hair and pays whatever I ask for my services because she totally doesn't "get it!"
  7. ........or, you can call your personal rep. I have already received three e-mails from mine!

    Done!

It already started this morning and I had already filed two returns before I went to the Dr with my hubby. "Oh, you must be so glad it's over!!" What part of over don't I get? Rita's boot, indeed.
  9. Well, I am in the same boat as JJStephens. All I have heard the past few days from my new Assistant and my Husband is "You have to raise your prices!" Easier said than done, but I am working on it too.

    Rental income

Oh Boy! Who uses the other rooms in the condo, or do they just stay in the bedroom all of the time?

    Done!

Not done by a long shot. Will take a few days off for medical appts and R and R. Back to the extensions on Monday. I would rather get it all behind me. I truly love and appreciate everyone on this board.
  12. Absolutely NOBODY has been on time today!!!!!
  13. How would we possibly live without you Rita? You brighten every day!!!!
  14. They want copies of the original 1095A......Not self employed. So far, one is a single girl who broke her arm and was off work for some time in 2014. Premiums were based on 2013 income. She is a cosmetologist; so, of course, she couldn't work and had no benefits. The other one that is bringing his in is a case where they each had their own. She had ACA for first six months; then went onto Medicare. He had insurance through work for the first five months; then went onto ACA. Whoever said that the IRS wouldn't be checking these was DEAD WRONG!
  15. Now, isn't that just the truth?
  16. Why are all of my clients who received refunds of premium getting letters asking for more information?
  17. Yeah! Sometimes I open the setup folder and find a check in there. So many of my clients pay when they bring it in and I don't like to cash the checks until their returns are finished. There are some really good people in this world. (and on this board)!
  18. Well, my happy twist is that the client, who hadn't filed for four years, came in on Friday and requested an extension and was willing to send an ample check along with the extension. Filing quarterlies? Now, that is something we still have to work on. Baby steps!!!!!
  19. I have my haircut scheduled on the 21st. My Cosmetologist client is a happy camper because she just filled the last chair she had for rent in her salon. I hope it is easier to sleep after the 15th. Right now, even if I plan on sleeping in, I always wake up early.
  20. I have hand sanitizer, stress relief lotion and cough drops on my desk at all times. I keep the chips and beer in a little door on the side of my computer desk!!!!! As soon as the last client leaves for the day, I get a can of cold beer. Candy? Not so much!!
  21. I found the missing second key to my office (that I just knew I put in a safe place so I would remember where it was) I totally searched for two days, gave up and about a week later moved some papers and there it was!!!!

    What changed?

I had a client get really irate a few years ago when I asked that question. She even brought it up in court when I had to testify for her husband at a hearing pertaining to their divorce. She is no longer my client. On the other hand; had a client this year who was a suicide in Nov; couldn't figure out what he could have spent all that money on. Consulted with the family; then the financial manager. Turns out that two rollover distributions were coded incorrectly as ordinary distributions. That was a "good catch" on my part and much appreciated by all involved. It helps to know the habits of your clients.

    What changed?

I will personally put it in the hand of my new client who tried to tell me how to do my job. She is picking up this afternoon. She was trying to squeeze more money out of the system and I was having no part of it.
  24. Consultation with my husband re: diagnosis of prostate cancer. All will be well, though. Then back to face a multitude of extensions without the pressure. Right now; work is good for me!
  25. I had one last year who hadn't filed in four years. IRS came a'knocking with transcripts in hand. This guy is SE and didn't learn a thing. Is coming in this afternoon to file an extension for 2014. He says he doesn't LIKE to file taxes. (As in, who does?) Of course, we preparers absolutely LOVE filing taxes.
