  1. Which is exactly what I did in December. I have two awesome laptops with 17" screens, Win 7 Pro and Turbo Boost; that will be working for some time to come. More and more machines are being offered now with the option of either Win 7 or 8. The big thing to look for is to make sure that you have adequate GHZ. Mine are 2.6 with Turbo Boost to 3.2. They are not Dells.
  2. I do a complete system backup at least once a month on alternating external hard drives. It happened once on my old XP computer and we were able to restore the entire content of the hard drive flawlessly. I use EaseUs To Do Backup.

Have you ever "priced" the Master Tax Guide? I did, and it is expensive. I, for one, use it a lot for the final word and am happy to receive it as part of the Max package.
  4. Well, wouldn't this be a windfall right now? We are in the midst of extensive mucky medical turmoil. Would be nice.
  5. I agree with this post. I had a client who just dropped out of sight for three years. The IRS did contact him with transcripts for those years and he came to me to "fix" it, which, of course, I did. It was a chance for me to make some extra money and for him to learn a lesson. He saved thousands over the IRS assessment and was happy to pay up much less than he thought he owed.
  6. I do not have E and O insurance, but I do have business liability on my Homeowners policy. I explored the issue and the insurance co didn't seem to know where to put my small practice. As someone else cited, if I make a mistake, I pay for it; and I can only think of one instance over the years where that has happened and since it was partially the client's fault, I fired the client.
  7. I absolutely LOVED that tiger roar!
  8. This is so true. I have used Quicken forever. It used to be flawless. I am totally frustrated with 2010. Wish I could go back, but I will probably certainly never go forward. WAY too much crammed into a simple usable program.
  9. There has been a lot of this going on lately; not just on ATX, but across the board.
  10. I am insanely jealous.
  11. I want more Emoticons. What am I doing wrong?

    Renewal

My call came yesterday just as I was thinking about calling my rep. I have had the same gal for several years. I bit the bullet and renewed. Too much going on in my personal life (as well as extensions) to dally. I was offered the option of making three payments, but made the commitment for another year in full and now I will move on to other things.
  13. I am in a CPState. I put it on the E. Some of these clients have such complications already that adding a 1065 to the mix is just not user-friendly. Sometimes a "smart" attorney just makes a little extra money by talking them into an LLC.
  14. I have found it to be a waste of time. Even the Practitioners Priority line was of no help. Just kept repeating the message that was on the website. The are sure in a hurry getting the CP2000s out, though.
  15. I have both AVG and Malwarebytes on my Android tablet. I have no security issues. In fact, I feel more comfortable using my tablet for private conversations, etc. because it does not have any of my tax info or any of my client info on it. I also lock my tablet (just in case) and have to open it with a password.
  16. I mail the few that I have just to aggravate somebody.
  17. The return I was working on disallowed it even though the net rental income was a negative. It took the gross before depreciation. My mind tells me he should not qualify since he also had a business loss; but a little bit of earned income from two small jobs. I am filing it without the EITC.
  18. Same theme, different form. Am I or am I not correct in thinking that Rental Income disqualifies taxpayer from EIC under the terms of excess investment income?
  19. I got a reprimand and a slapped hand today from the IRS with a threat of a $500 fine for not filing an 8867 on a EITC return. Funny thing was that I had originally filed it with the 8867 and file was rejected because minor daughter had already claimed herself as a dependent. When I paper filed and amended the daughter, I forget to attach a copy of the 8867 to the return. Sheeesh!!!!!! This was not my first rodeo. They sent it by Certified mail and when I called the number on the letter, I got a recording who continued to reprimand and threaten me in no uncertain terms. They did say that I was not getting a penalty at this time, but just remember that the Big Boys are watching me. No chance to defend or explain. They sure know how to make your day.
  20. I just did an amendment this morning on the one that I had. Not a big deal because he is applying his entire refund toward 2015 estimates.
  21. It helped me, but too late. I had already thrown my hands in the air and filed the return without the credit. Will have to amend later. Thanks Jack. Should have called you.
  22. I had a hard enough time getting pins for the victims of prior year identity theft. They used to mail the pin to the victims. Getting booted out of the site was getting pretty old.
  23. I have used Medlin for small business payroll for many years with excellent results. And, the cost is right.
  24. I wish I had read this conversation before I filed a return with an NOL that did not allow the refund of the PTC. I had to get that return finished and knew that it was wrong, but couldn't get it to file. Will amend after I get caught up.
  25. You are so smart! I never saw that form before. Thanks a ton!!!!
