So, my assistant is paying for and taking the HRB tax course on her own in order to increase her tax prep knowledge. Is the fact that she will be using TaxWise, going to mess her up when she is working with me on ATX? (Incidentally, her first class was last week and they sent everyone home because the software was not ready)!

I gave a check to my Grandkids last night because we are making a joint land purchase. He said, "I can deposit this to my account right from my phone!" WHAT??????????? That makes me really nervous.

I have been busy all summer with medical appointments and amending self-prepared returns; which has garnered me several new clients. Most issues have been with the ACA, but not all. The other thing has been helping clients with responses to CP2000s. And then there are all of those refinancers who just cannot find their copies of 2013 and 2014 returns. I, also, still have clients who filed extensions and have not brought their info in yet. What a year!!!!!

However, bottom line, I do believe that most of us actually like what we are doing. That other world isn't all that great either, at times.

Many of us have "been there"! I could go on and on, but it is water over the dam and the child in question is now an adult and understands just what went on. She is much closer to our family than she is to her mother's.

I, also, mis-read the original message.

After reading your update, I would consider it to be child support and non-taxable to your client.

It was just a thought (hope). I am leaning toward the identity theft. That has always been the case when I get that rejection.
-
I wouldn't do that. They are still MFJ for 2014 and I would leave him (the deceased spouse) as the primary. I would try it one more time with the spouses switched back around. The software will take care of the deceased part if you entered the DOD in the information.

In most cases, I have found this to be a case of identity theft. The form is 14039 and the identity theft number is 800-908-4490 Extension 245

That would be apple and/or raspberry custard pie. Between his working and school work, I hardly see him these days.

My eighteen-year-old Grandson just built his second one. I don't know what the stats are on this one but do know that it is liquid cooled with a SSD and is one fine looking piece of equipment. I don't even ask, because he is miles ahead of me in technology and I used to be pretty much up to speed. Maybe that is why is college major is in this computer tech field. (He needs to learn patience, though, when explaining technical things to Grandma).

That sounds like way too much money to me. Of course, we don't know what you have now and what your IT guy proposes to build for you. Too Much Money for a desktop.
-
I will get a taste of it when I get my new Surface Pro 3 set up. That is a play toy for me. In the meantime, my desktop and two laptops will stay at Win 7 Pro even though they have the option of being updatable to Win 8.1. Have had this discussion repeatedly with my IT guy; he has no problem with 8.1; but also thinks I am right to leave well enough alone. In other words, If it isn't broke, don't fix it! Best of luck to those who want to dip their toes into untested waters.

An SSD is a Solid State hard drive.....which is much faster than an ordinary hard drive. They used to be too expensive for many people to bother with, but are becoming more affordable every day.
-
I, personally, would definitely stay with Windows 7 Pro.
-
I certainly have no intention of updating. I am working with Win 7 Pro and everything is good. From what I have heard; if you accept that free update, it is only for a year and then you have to pay. Anyone??????????

In all fairness, I have to say that I have never called ATX Support for anything since the early days with William Tasker. However, I have been unable to open the 2013 program on my main computer. Of course, now is the time when all of those who "failed to file" for a few years are coming in. I took a chance today and called Support. I was answered on the first call. I was not put on hold; and a very sweet gal used Team Viewer to fix the issue with a series of almost mechanical clicks. I just wanted to say that she was courteous, more than competent, answered my questions and my issue is fixed. I believe in giving credit where credit is due and I believe that if they do something right, they should be recognized for it. I have one less thing to worry about tonight.

That explains why I didn't get an answer to the PM that I sent Jack.

My brother just got a call last weekend.

Prostate cancer. He is preparing for the radiation seed implant.

As a few of you know, on June 2, I had breast cancer surgery. All is going very well. No margin invasion and no lymph node invasion. Prognosis couldn't be better. I wouldn't normally be writing this other than to remind all of you gals to have your mammograms. Early detection is SO key and that is what saved me. My tumor was only 7 cm. It is gone. I will have no radiation or chemo....only meds. This has been a pretty hectic time for us as my husband and I were both diagnosed with cancer about two weeks apart. Also, my cousin, who became my new assistant this year, was diagnosed before me and had her surgery exactly 4 weeks to the day ahead of me. We are all doing just fine. Am not asking for any sympathy here; just want to make sure that all the gals and wives of guys out there get the message and are as fortunate as I have been.

I wouldn't do it again after 2013. You know the issues that I had. Even if I had the time. New clients every few days; who messed up preparing their own returns.

I always shut the touchpads off and use a wireless mouse. Otherwise, the palms of your hands have things jumping all over the place.

Well, I wasn't that lucky. Practitioner Hotline couldn't tell me any more than what I found on Where's My Refund. (couldn't or wouldn't?)
