  1. I, also, renewed early. Since I don't have to pay until December, there was no sense in waiting. I like to be ready when I need to be ready.
  2. I have a client who applied $1500 to 2020 tax return. The IRS is dunning him for $746 dollars because that money was never applied. That leads me to believe that they have not even processed all of the 2019 returns as we went deep into his IRS record and they are saying that he never filed in 2019. However, I have proof of the date of filing and the date of acceptance by the IRS. Since we have not been able to talk to anyone, I sent detailed instructions and copies of all forms to them. In return, he just keeps getting collection letters and so we have decided to sit it out as he does not owe them any money and somewhere in their chaotic world, he has $1500 that he applied from 2019. Therefore, I would not use that ploy. I would ask for the refund.
  3. I renewed last week. Now for classes this coming Tues and Wed; Nov 2 and 3. Thought everything would be smooth for a while. Yesterday, in walks a delinquent tax return. Alas. Never count your chickens!
  4. I have at least one 2019 that has not been processed yet. Still, they want money from him for 2020 when he had money applied from 2019. Cannot make any verbal contact.
  5. Wisconsin announced this afternoon that they will not be following the IRS rules for excluding UCB from Income. They have issued exact guidance as to how to do the calculations on the WI returns.

    YIKES!!!!!
  7. I won't have any PPP either that I know of. I almost had a same sex couple. They were planning on getting married in December, 2020, but postponed. I have at least one more year to worry about it. Still 2 single returns.
  8. Alas, the phone is starting to ring with the most mundane questions, such as "When will I get my stimulus?" How do you answer that when you have no idea. On the other hand, I am downloaded, updated and am training a new assistant. My former girl won't come in because of Covid. Well, we all have to deal with life in our own way and this may turn out to be a bonus for me because I found a girl who actually WANTS to learn. She has some experience and wants more and in view of my age, that is exactly what I need. Win/win for both of us. I have three computers updated with the new program downloaded and ready to go in case the other girl wants to come and help out at some unknown date. Five years of experience means something to me and I really don't feel ready to deal with all of this yet, pep talks and all. CE is completed, Certificate is received and I really could care less.
  9. I have a Surface Pro and love it. I just had it completely updated. I don't use it for taxes though as I have all three licenses installed on computers in my office. The Surface Pro is a lovely toy and I have the keyboard as well.
  10. I understand. However, I feel that refurbished is just like brand new or better because they have been gone over and are guaranteed. I have never had a problem and none of my computers have ever failed. Updates and good IT along with backups and I don't worry.
  11. I saw almost that exact configuration for an HP on Woot.com for $529 refurbished. I bought mine last year from Tiger (also refurbished) and it is amazing. It's so nice that my IT man bought one as well and says it is the best computer he has ever had.
  12. This AM, I locked in for the waiver of a $49 deferral. I had to pay the tax and handling today. Will pay the balance on Dec 1. I just like to get it over with and they have been bombarding me with emails. This AM, I got a call. I'm with Margaret; maybe 2 more years, cutting back gradually. I had zero issues with the program this year. I am just so far behind with the lockdown and the money isn't flowing like it normally would be. Also, am unable to have any help in the office. Stay healthy, everyone
  13. I meant to say Estimate Payments.
  14. So, how does this affect the payment of April and June extension payments?
  15. No, the statement that I read said that this was an extension on time to pay as well, with no penalties or interest.
  16. This would be so sweet as I have already lost 10 days due to my own illness. Now I am facing two funerals in the coming week. My assistant is out today and also was ill in January when I wanted to complete preparations for the tax season which dropped like a bombshell the last week in January. One way or another, we have to get it done.
  17. I really fail on the upside down this year. Embarrassing and Unprofessional.
  18. I experienced zero crashing. Overall, the program was the only help that I had. As many have said, the Comparison sheet was what told the truth and every client got one. Many extensions to go. We cannot rule out the Schedule A in WI, because many, many times some of the deductions flow through to the WI return. I had WAY too many people who owed a LOT. That's a hard situation to deal with, unless the client understands. From beginning to end, the worst tax season that I have ever had.
  19. Been through this once already this year. If an unmarried couple live together with THEIR child; the parent with the highest income MUST claim the child for HOH, CTC and EIC. I read and read and found it very clearly stated on page 4-11 of Quickfinder. These are the tie breaking rules for this particular situation and killed the EIC. I highlighted and marked the page in case it comes up again. Dad had to take it all. Mom ends up owing. If you analyze it in your mind, you know that this is fair.
  20. However, there are cases where the girlfriend qualifies the taxpayer as HOH under the rules of Other Relative. For instance; if she is not required to file a tax return.
  21. Needed half a filing cabinet to contain it all...........
  22. One sided here and financial institutions want PAPER. We closed on a rental property this past summer and YOU SHOULD SEE THE PAPER!
  23. At least they have finally given us a filing date. Will it hold water and will the software be ready?
  24. Sara could have been reading my mind when she wrote her post. My reply is "all of the above". In 40 years I have never felt so inadequate and unprofessional. Confusion is rampant. I don't feel ready even though I, too, have been studying and attending classes. I have many printouts, but it appears that some of the issues we need to address this year have not even been fully enacted. Even the instructors are unable to instruct. Let's hope that we can get through this together and with each others help.
