I am just feeling totally zapped. Of course, all of those extensions are sitting here and I have no desire to do them, but knot that I HAVE to. I would rather get them over now than be filing in October, but some have not even come in yet. I so looked forward to some time alone in the woods, but Wisconsin is having a really sketchy Spring. Weather is terrible and unpredictable. Really, all I want to do is read and sleep. I have 20 years on you, Judy, but still have no intention of quitting this crazy way of life. I just need to gather my thoughts and ambitions together and get them finished. to all of you.

I am thinking it over as well. I have had the same sales rep for years and she is a sweetie, but I guess I will wait for her call and then decide.

Pretty much the same here. Am working on Easter Sunday just because I have a client who is terrified of the IRS. Born and raised in Poland. Also, he is a Priest. Bless his heart. I know he is praying for me today.

Believe me, that is not the situation here. I have more than enough to keep myself and my family comfortable. I like money as much as the next person, I just say that money is not the most important thing in my business. I am training a young lady to follow in my footsteps. We did see the lady who was crying on the phone and she also cried in my office. She had a legitimate reason as she recently lost her significant other to Covid and his family is affecting her life negatively. She is gainfully employed and only wants to change preparers because she doesn't trust the one that she and his family used in prior years. We are going to help her. I have been in this business for 30 plus years and it has built itself from pencil and paper to an office addition with four active and updated computers; several printers and plenty of supplies. I preach "having a cushion" and practice what I preach. We haven't used your software in several years, but are looking at it again because of inquiries. I am not taking on more than my assistant is comfortable with going forward. My business has always been, and always will be about the Client first. Thank you for your input. I totally agree.

It appears that we all feel pretty much the same. I told my husband that I just cannot get motivated today and I am also so far behind with the bookkeeping for his business too. My entire family will be on extension, as well as several others. I still don't think we will make it. I will have help tomorrow and one more helper on Tuesday; but there is only so much that they can do. More new clients coming in this week. I actually had a lady crying on the phone because nobody would take her. I will. I am all about service, before money.

My dude owed $57,000 to Federal alone. He had nothing withheld. $315,000 in conventional IRAs into Roths. How long will he have to hold those Roths to gain back what he lost? Anyone????
-
My client is NOT a multi millionaire; nor do I know one.
-
Yes, here too!!
-
I just finished a client who owes a total of $73,000. to IRS and WI because he rolled a LOT of conventional IRAs into Roths. He said he would have had to pay the taxes sooner or later. Does anyone see anything wrong with his line of thought? I couldn't believe that he did this and then brought me a big, delicious chocolate torte for doing such a good job on his return. (Oh, he cashed in another IRA to pay the taxes)! What is wrong with people?

Because lately every other taxpayer is starting up what they consider a "business" selling something. Mostly you have to pull the information out of them because they have no idea what they are doing as to SE, Inventory, COGS, mileage, etc; and ten to one; next year it will have disappeared.

Schedule C, but I hate these.

Usually at noon, we shut down and restart. We have Windows 10. Have had a few occasions of shut down, but not enough to stop the show. The computers seem to get tired just like us.
-
At the very least, I would not allow them back next year. We have too much stress and lack of time for people like this.

Client from hell on St. Patty's day. Doesn't seem right.

Bless your heart! We all have some of those. I fired a couple last year. I also believe in the Goodness of St Patrick, but I don't believe he has the ability to prepare tax returns. -
Just got off the phone with Barclay Bank!!!! Believe me, I had to bite my tongue!!!
-
Especially when they call and tell you their intentions and you tell them not to do it; and they do it anyway! Ugh!!!

I hate the difficulties of logging into my ATX. The double password "thing" is not working most of the time. I don't even like the setup of the support program when you do get to log into it. Why can't these companies (many others as well) leave things alone when they aren't broken.
-
I have also rarely needed help, but this was a MAX problem with installing the program and this kind lady fixed it very graciously. She was definitely not a temp.
-
Last Friday, I had the most amazing help from a lady who remoted my computer and proceeded to fix my problem with just a few clicks. She even hung around and waited for me to try the system to make sure that it was really working. Bless her heart!!

We spend more time trying to decide if some of these credits are actually legit. Every day is a new learning session. I don't know what to do about charging. If you raise them too much, they just don't "get" it, even though we spent half the day researching and deciding between us what box to check for who. And who gets to claim the child and every other year parents are both getting the CTC. Ugh!!!! Later Marilyn

I am teaching my new assistant the ins and outs of tax preparation; if that is possible. She is doing an amazing job. As you know, I cannot be here forever, but was able to find a willing and able gal who would like to build a business for herself, just as we did. How are you?
-
In retrospect, after reading all the comments about double dipping; we have gone back and are checking a few young ladies and men who have just fallen off of their parents' returns. Sure enough! Another $1400 refund. This just doesn't seem possible but, as someone said, we don't make the laws. I am watching this board closely every day to see what else comes up. And, now; don't forget the new baby. We are seeing some really huge refunds. Where is all this money going to come from?
-
This evening, I called the gal who worked for me pre-Covid and pre-Vaccine and asked her if she would think about coming in for a few days a month to help out. No hesitation. She said that her life is so boring. I told her that she could balance checkbooks, do bookkeeping and would not have to prepare tax returns unless she wanted to. She is all for it. I just got my third license downloaded and working on Saturday so I know she will do simple returns. We are getting so far behind already as I am teaching and interviewing and getting too many interruptions to actually get much work done during the day. Therefore, all I can say is Woo Hoo!! I have always believed in doing the best job possible and even if I don't have as much profit as usual this year; it will be worth it to get these returns done correctly. Who knows what is still ahead of us!!!!

We had a "Hold" box last year for the unemployment issue, once it was announced. We also had to wait for Wisconsin to update their forms as WI did not follow the protocol of the IRS on this issue. This year, so far, I have not had a single client come in without the letter from the IRS regarding the EIP and none of them have argued with what their letter said. SO FAR!!!
-
I really hammered my blog early on with instructions to look for and keep those letters from the IRS. Honestly, we have not had a single client to date who did not bring them in.
