    OT- Monitor

I, too, have never had a monitor that died. Therefore did not realize they made that much difference. However, two new laptops this year have already stretched my belt to the limit. Presently, am looking for a "deal" on paper. The cost of doing business has gotten out of hand.
  2. One of the greatest joys of my life. Now, mine are both married and I have two Great Grands. There are no words. Congratulations Catherine!
  3. University of Iowa averages about $23 per credit. Two days garners you 16 credits.
  4. I do a tremendous amount of self study and let me say that this board is the perfect venue for that. However, it doesn't give me any of the credits that I need. Therefore, it's the same two day seminar that I have attended since 2009. It used to be Tax Insight for years, but since Phil Harris passed, has been the Iowa State University. This year it is once again, in person, but none close enough to me. I will attend the online seminar in November. I believe that registration is open this month. I also get my money's worth out of Quickfinders.
  5. I have been doing online Webinars ever since Covid. I wasn't thrilled with the idea at first, but even though I feel it is too expensive, at least I don't have to pay for travel and room and meals. I use a two day Webinar presented by Iowa State University. We now have the choice of live or online, but I still find it easier to do it online. If we want or need the credits, we have to bite the bullet. Also, my assistant gets to sit in for free which was not the case when we went to the live Seminars. She doesn't need the credits at this point.
  6. Yes, but there always are those die-hard clients who will not allow an epayment.
  7. I can't remember not wanting to read. However, I don't just indulge any old time. My pleasure reading is reserved for the end of the day, unless I am on R and R. I keep a "help yourself" bookcase in my office so that I can share what I have read with my clients. Believe me, they take advantage of it. I tell them to take whatever they want to read and then pass it on. At my age, I don't anticipate reading any books over; although there are still a few that I am not willing to part with. My Dad, who only went to fifth grade, became a voracious reader when he retired from a lifetime of being an automobile mechanic. Dad lived to 92 and macular degeneration made him bitter because he couldn't read. My Mom was always a reader as well. She read to the age of 90.
  8. Read every chance I get. Read, read, study and read. Hardly ever bored, but not retired and have no intention of ever being fully. Tax returns are still coming in for 22.
  9. Personally, I would put the 1099 NEC money on the first line and put the reimbursement money on the line for other income.; just to prevent confusion.
  10. I can't imagine commissions being anything other than an expense. They are intangible; so how do you relate to COGS?
  11. I have also always been in an all-male household. Grew up with 3 brothers; got married and had 2 sons. I never paid much attention as parochial school made me pretty much a stickler for proper language.
  12. In WI, you will fairly often hear "you guys" instead of y'all.
  13. That is everybody that you are speaking to. We have lots of Texas friends. Our favorite is "tars" instead of tires.
  14. It definitely is expensed in the year that it is paid. There is even a line for it on the Schedule E.

    ATX MAX

My package is unlimited efile; all states and three licenses as per usual. Something a little different on payroll, but I only do a few 1099s. Yes, price went up, but so did Drake and probably every other program. I have always been happy with ATX MAX and no reason to change my mind now.
  16. ed: two or three states.
  17. This could be a can of worms. Was the IL income included in the Federal income? Was the client a resident of IL or WI? I would amend because WI is really picky about these two or three returns. Or, is reciprocity involved?
  18. Probably a lot or most of them. That seems to be the racket of choice these days. And to think that we beat ourselves up and worry over the little things; at least I do.
  19. I am not downloading or updating anything. Because of the explosion, I was kind of forced to purchase a new laptop. I, then, purchased another to replace one office machine. I can't say that I am crazy about Win 11, but have months to learn it. My main ATX machine for creating, printing and filing returns will remain at Win 10 for this year. I am having unexpected Win 11 issues; such as printer drivers, etc. Cannot make the chip reader work properly either. This is a work in progress. Good thing I have an IT friend who knows what he is doing. It takes a lot more than just installing a new OS. I am glad now that I didn't wait until the eleventh hour because I am on vacation and can obsorb the pain much more easily. I am a Senior Citizen who tries to stay on top of tech. So said, let's see what happens going forward.
  20. Of course, I said I would live and die with Win 10. Well, since the explosion, I have purchased two new laptops with Win 11; one, because I had to (See FYI Explosion) and the second because it was too good a deal to pass up. Once I did the deed, I didn't look back. I have happy homes for both laptops that I am replacing. That only leaves me with my WORK desktop, if and when I must. Much as we hate it, we have to move with the times and bear in mind that Win 12 Beta is already out. Once the crush is on, Win 11 computers will be at a minimum and pricy. (My thinking, anyhow). I am likely the oldest person on this board, but I don't intend to quit anytime soon.

    FYI EXPLOSION

FYI Addendum: My IT person took the computer home. He pried it open and removed the battery which had exploded. He took it outside on the concrete, plugged it in and the computer works perfectly. He was shocked that everything survived. I had already ordered a replacement and have gifted the survivor to him. Acer all the way. Sometimes a tragic event has a happy ending.
  22. EFile says that Name and EFIN do not match their records.
  23. I have two WI NPs that will not efile for some reason or another. Of course, efiling is required. I am at a loss as to how to fix this as I did not set up either one of them.

    FYI EXPLOSION

After 4 years in the Navy, my husband would never go on a cruise.
