Welcome to the club.......I guess some of us just like to talk more than others.

I truly believe that the best way to learn is "hands on" and help from this board.

Deb....you have my heartfelt sympathy. I am sure that once we settle down, things will be OK. At least we do have a source of income even if we have to nudge ourselves to get going. Here in the Midwest, so many are out of work totally and things are getting really tough. My husband and sons' business (Used Auto Sales) hasn't written a contract in the last three months. I am hanging on to 2 jobs to help with their bills......and so the spiral continues. And, yet, I am so much better off than many. I count my blessings every day.
-
But, therin lies our "due diligence"!
-
Deb....look at page 2, Question 5 of the 1065 for Partnerships. In some cases, balance sheets are not required, although it is really better and nicer to do them. If they have a filled out 1065 from the prior year, it is pretty easy to follow along. Pub 541 has the best directions that I know of outside of the directions that come with the 1065. I don't do Corps any more because I just don't have the time and with the influx of LLC's; there are more Partnerships than ever. I actually like doing those.

Deb, surprisingly, people are calling for Feb appts already and many of them are ones I did not expect (or particularly want) to hear from. I am not raising my prices either, but so far nobody has asked. I did send out letters to regulars saying that I needed payment up front this year due to collection difficulties in 07. I actually had some go right down to the wire for filing before they paid. I am really not into this "tax thing" this year. :dunno:

You cannot file HOH unless you have a qualifying child or qualifying relative living with you for more than half of the year.

A few years ago, they didn't want to give an EIN # to a Sole Prop who did not have employees. Now, you can get one online within minutes. I am finding that clients say they need them for people from whom they purchase supplies.

I was getting an often and erratic error message on MSN money and was told to clean out all of my cookies and history. Lo and Behold, it seems to have worked. Just make sure you have all of your passwords written down before you try this.

Unfortunately, that is true. I have only seen advanced EIC once in many years. However, I do not have a problem with clients receiving EIC if they are trying diligently to support their families by working as much as they can. Many of them are the victims of circumstances who are fine, deserving people and EIC is an incentive for them to work. When you guess that some are manipulating the system by working the requisite hours to receive the maximum credit, of course it is time to cringe. However, I don't see much of that. And I also have a few clients without children who qualify for an EIC stipend.

Lady Liberty is usually a guy! I have to wave to them when I go by.

And I found that to be a very annoying one more thing that we will have to be on the lookout for.

Too Funny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Same here. Did not require restart, but had one last night that did. I think that I updated about four times yesterday. And just think, all, this is my first year without dialup. How dare I complain about anything. Got new HP2035 hooked up and going last night. Works perfectly with ATX. Nice Printer, but not on list yet.

Don't Forget To Add Real Estate Tax to Standard Deduction
mcb39 replied to RitaB's topic in General Chat
I just had to re-do one early bird that I was ready to e-file because at 3 AM I remembered to find out about her stimulus check from last year. Bless whoever it was that gave us that site to check...I think it was Taxbilly. She is getting an additional $300 this year because she only got $300 last year. RE-do taxes. It's a good thing that I was waiting for her bank info for DD. I am not liking tax season already. -
But then you have to set up payroll and all that entails. My clients who do not have other employees opt for the splitting of the profits so both have SE contributions and both are eligible for Retirement contributions. In WI, this also makes them eligible for the Married Couple Credit which amounts to as much as $480 on the refund.

I just went to E-file manager, clicked on E-file in Upper Left, dropped down to bottom of choices to "Test Transmission". Program automatically connected and came back with message that test transmission was sent successfully.
-
I just sent a successful "Test"........
-
I don't believe that you can sent a Test file until the 15th.

I have several of those also, Carolyn. Jainen is correct and it is acceptable by the IRS.

It actually could be detrimental in some ways. Often addresses change, spouses' names change, children are added or subtracted. It is much easier to catch these things from year to year. As to your first question. I make sure that the returns are done that are still covered by the statute (ie: the last three years) in case there is a refund so it doesn't get lost. I will go back 3 years and work forward. Then, I will go to the beginning and work forward, because if there would have been refunds, the taxpayer will not get them prior to the 3 year limit.

I have had a HP1200 as my main printer since 05. I know because I looked at the little post it notes that I put on it with the date every time I change the toner. I know it was inexpensive but does a fantastic job. I changed the toner 2/9/08, 3/24/08 (in the thick of tax season) and today 1/13/09. That's not bad, but e-filing does save a LOT of toner and paper. Hope I like the new one I ordered for backup as well.

Yes, the General Partner has to pay SE Tax. The K-1s should show the percentage of ownership. I had to read your post several times before I understood that one was a limited partner. He will have to pay tax on his income; though, probably not SE Tax. Not enough details.

Thanks for your input KC. I have been leaning toward HOH all along simply because I don't want her filing with him. I tried to get her attorney to push for the divorce before year end. He couldn't see what the big deal was. So, of course, you are correct about their knowledge of tax law. See it time and time again. This is not just about porn..it is the worst of the worst. In the meantime, he is innocent until he gets his taxpayer financed jury trial and she sits in limbo and tries to hold her family together. So far he has refused to sign anything so how long can he delay her refund by refusing to sign a Joint Income Tax Return. I just don't want to mess up on Community Property Law........
