  1. It is back in the works for 2009. Sure makes lots of people happy who hurried to replace furnaces, windows and doors before the end of the year. I do have one client getting a $2000 credit for putting in a Geo-Thermal heating system. Of course the system cost $24,000. Woe to the small guy once again.
  2. When you click on Add New Forms for the return.; go to the box in the left colume and click on Estates. This will bring up the option for you to choose the 1041 K-1 worksheet.
  3. Sara.....do you drive a yellow SUV? Granddaughter drove me past Joans today and I wondered if you were working.
  4. Linda..I would convert to personal. If she has already been off work for 10 months, what are the odds that she will be called back. Print a depreciation schedule for her file just in case she puts them back into use. Then you can deduct the depreciation taken from the basis.
  5. Linda...in the drop down box for Asset Entry (Upper Left Hand Corner) you get to choose which schedule the depr goes to. The first entry choice is Sch A..... Or, alternately, on the 2106, there is a worksheet for entering depreciation for additions or improvements, but I really think that is for home office use. Try one of these methods. It is really amazing what can be found in the worksheets lists. B)

    Problems efiling

I sent one earlier this afternoon and before that I had a successful sync. Perhaps the lines were overloaded. I would try again....unless someone else knows of trouble now.
  7. February 2009 for my divorced couple. Tom is right when it comes to that high of an income business. Mine are all in the $50 to $70 Thousand range.
  8. Linda, I am also using a HP 1018 at one location....no problems this year or last. Here in home office I am using HP1200 (for years) and HP P2035 (new)....no problems with either one. The "N" on your printer indicates that it is Network capable. Are you networked? Take Wayne's advice and check with HP help. Sometimes they have downloads that do magic.
  9. I spent hours on one this week. Now I MAY have to go and undo it all because spouse drew UC and have to ask if she is sure she wants me to do this. I don't have Excel and don't have time to learn anything new, let alone all of this splitting. I like Linda's idea better than fredazcpa's. However, I like things neat and tidy and wound rather do it correctly (whatever that means).......these are setting me so far behind and many more to come. It is like yesterday when I struggled with a MFJ and two MFS returns to end up with practically the same result. (and, yes, I did the worksheet, but couple was divorced in Feb and want to see the results both ways.) Also, everyone is waiting to do FAFSA, like right away and the STRESS around here is TREMENDOUS! Of course, this was discussed in detail a few weeks ago. Thank you IRS for this huge Sched C stumbling block.
  10. You know, I always wonder if it got to the other end; but I always have the original in hand. Maybe this is what happens to people who are trying to go paperless...........
  11. That has always been the case, hasn't it?

    1098-T

Could the student have changed schools or something. I had one where the student worked for the year of 2008; parents actually paid tuition expenses in Dec 2008 for classes that started in Jan 2009. That box at the bottom is checked so parents can take deduction in 2009. You always seem to have to pull the "rest of the story" out of them. Also, have students wanting to claim WI homestead credit for the rent they pay. When I ask them if they received any scholarships or grants, they come in with all kinds of paperwork which disqualifies them. The personalized plates on my vehicle (courtesy of my kids) read: "TAXD OUT". Believe me, that couldn't be truer at this moment.
  13. Take the extra step and list them separately. I have seen this happen from time to time when companies change a payroll method or who knows what during the year. It only takes a minute to do them both; expecially if you are using auto-fill. Just my opinion and the way that I would do it.
  14. Just filed one last night. It is already accepted. This was about the fifth one.
  15. My first thought was also, "What did she say?" and did she take it with her. I love the ones who say "Now all you have to do is put the numbers in and let the computer do the work." This ALWAYS comes from a man with numerous investments, two Sch C's, HSA, Itemized deductions, Savers Credit, Gambling income; which always causes part of his SS to be taxed; and he has a wife who has a Real Job! So, the computer did all the work and he is finished and waiting to be picked up and filed. (No wonder my legs are itching and my chin is breaking out!)
  16. Absolutely! If that end tag isn't on the CU account number, it messes them up for some reason. They explained to me that it has to be 10 numbers but when they get the electronic deposit, the last number drops off. Actually, the last number for CUs indicates whether it is savings, checking, IRA or what have you. They are also the ones who charge the fees for the slightest infraction of their rules.
  17. Why are we all doing laundry today? Two loads in the dryer here, one basket waiting to be hung out. In between washed my hair; answered phone, completed and checked two returns, interviewed a client, let the answering machine pick up a call.; (mine was a lady wanting to stop and pay me for her's and her son's returns) I sure called her right back. The neighbor lady made and sent over lunch. Told my husband to tell her she is a "wonderful" person. He embroidered it a little more and that is fine. Keep the meals coming.!!!! Fed the menfolk, back in here to read posts before next client arrives.....working tomorrow at my other job just to get away from here and see if the rest of the world is still sane.
  18. You are right, it should not; but banks and credit unions have their own rules. I guess they call it a handling fee even though they really didn't handle anything.
  19. That was a definite copy and paste. Has already gone out to several people I know, including ME.
  20. My payroll program already sent the updated withholding tables weeks ago. So far, I have not installed. For several of my clients this will be a mistake. Just dealt with a young couple last night who would have owed this year if they were not getting the first tim home buyers credit. Have asked them both to go in and change their W4s now as they are both having way too little withheld and next year will be worse. Why do they always give us the feeling that it is our fault when they owe.? :dunno:
  21. Also, there is a box on the top of the 1065 to check for "final return". You may also have to file a 8308 to report the sale or exchange of certain Partnership Interests. Get Pub 541 for detailed assistance.
  22. Gosh, John, I am so sorry. What was I thinking? (Some credit card app or other is always asking, "What was your mother's maiden name?"
  23. I am already "advising" some of mine. The people who have jobs and are working are generally doing all right. It is the ones who have lost their jobs who need the stimulus. Of course, there is an increase and extension in Unemployment Benefits, but then you see the ones who don't have enough working quarters to collect; and the circle continues to spin.
  24. Sometimes it works just the opposite. Have to use maiden name after marriage because wife did not contact SS. The women usually don't like that.
  25. It will be a paper check and it will be a lot of additional time (several weeks for sure). On top of that, client may also get a penalty (have seen that happening already, even if the account is one number off). OT...I deposited several checks; one was only for $20 for some little thing I did for a client. Because he had dated it 01/12/08, the teller said that it would probably come back and it would cost me $20 for the inconvenience. This was a perfectly good check. Needless to say, I still have it and will add it to his tax prep when he is finished. What kind of crazy world are we living in? Anyway, there is nothing you can do about your situation except wait it out.
