  1. Thanks, Joan, I am mulching my flower beds and generally putting the gardens to sleep. Snow forcast for tonight. Weekend off, then back to payroll quarterly issues.
  2. I finished e-filing, receiving acks on Tuesday. Now, the payroll quarterly stuff is coming in. Am taking the weekend off, however, and back to parttime job on Monday. ^_^
  3. It is always a big Hurrah when you find the answer yourself. It is also amazing how many elections, etc are to be found at the bottom of some of the forms pages. Often, we forget to look.
  4. He energized his own as well as several other nations. He gave people reasons to hope that things would get better. If, (as it appears on this board), Jainen and I are the only ones who voted for him, how did he get elected? In my opinion, this board has gotten far, far too political. I promised myself to stay out of political posts, but all of this nit-picking about a prize that President Obama neither asked for, voted for or apparently expected, is just too much. Accept it as the honor that it is, and hope that we can live up to it.
  5. Thank you, Jainen, for your insight!
  6. I agree that "much appreciated" is an understatement. The software IS my most important tool. However, you did get the rest of my point. Wayne posts further down about the preparers who just ask questions and plug in the answers. That is something that we have all seen and many of those returns are ones that we have amended. He is right that nobody deserves to be treated that way. Therein lies some of the reason why the IRS is talking about licensing, etc; which is tarring all of us with the same brush. However, if it comes down to passing a test, that might be for the better good of many. Nonetheless, my bottom line is that I find ATX to be an excellent choice of software. However, I don't have a pile of research material on my floor and seminars under my belt for nothing. We have to do the best job possible for our clients. None of us can know all of the answers, but we have to know where to find the answers and this board is an exceptional source of knowledge also.
  7. This pretty much describes me. I work alone and, of course, concede that if you are doing thousands of returns, you might need a program that does more of the work for you. But, if you are doing thousands of returns, you probably can afford something else. I, on the other hand, only do hundreds. I find Quickfinders "All States" book to be a great help and only renew it every 3 years. It gives me a strong basis for all states and further checking can be done on the individula state web sites. Remember, every time this board or the original board has asked for ATX to do more, the price has gone up. As far as I am concerned, they have fine-tuned the software extremely well. They were the first (and as far as I know, only) software to offer the Organizer in the prior year software. That has always been a feature that has been appreciated. They were also among the first to integrate free e-filing into the program. I can well remember having to e-file through a third party and pay to do it and it was a nightmare. Yes, everyone has their own set of circumstances, but I still maintain that our first responsibility is to the client and we should KNOW what we are doing. My second responsibility is to myself and making a living by using the skills and knowledge that I have. Software, to me, is a much appreciated aid; but never a crutch.
  8. The new bank should be able to handle it as long as he is making the request correctly and supplying them with the source.
  9. Don't be so sure about coming out smelling like a rose. TRX called me AGAIN this morning and asked how I liked the demo that they never sent me. I was polite to the caller because she got very flustered when I said that I had never gotten a demo. She is sending one now and I will take a look at it just to see what all the hoopla is about. I do not agree that we are the ones who hurt TRX. They came on this board and shouted to the world that they were offering ATX at a greatly reduced price. I think we all believe in free enterprise and competition. However, TRX "bit the hand that fed them" and that same hand retailated. It IS nice to know that there are other choices out there in case CCH decides to make ATX inaccessible. But, for now, I am extremely comfortable with the ATX software and will continue to use it as long as it is available and I can afford it.
  10. Thanks Wayne.....I now have all of my Organizers created and ready to print.
  11. There is very little that I don't like about ATX and a whole lot that I do like. For the price, Max does everything that I need it to do and then some. I have no problem with it being owned by CCH; as long as they keep it available. If ATX is out there, I will never change, and if it disappears, I may have to retire and disappear too.
  12. I am getting the same thing; almost daily. Even though I told them that I had renewed with ATX, they are still trying to convince me that they have a better product. I am SO glad that I did not get on that particular bandwagon.
  13. There was a lot of posting regarding QDRO on this board last spring when I was going through a very messy deal with a client. Doing a Search for QDRO might give Edward some answers. For those of you who remember my case, you might be interested to know that ex-husband is still sitting in County Jail awaiting trial. This will be two years in April. My client finally got her divorce in Feb which was just over one year after the husband's arrest and her filing for divorce. Because they were court ordered to file MFJ, we did pay the tax, but not the penalty. We are quite sure that her attorney may have messed this one up.

    Mel

Great to hear that all is well with you and your home and roses. (We had our first killing frost last night and graden is shot). Roses are tough and still blooming, though. As of today, I have canned 96 quarts of snappy tomato juice. Same country, different location.
  15. And I know that I have missed many of them. It is canning season in the Northwoods. Tomatoes are ripe, finally! to all September friends that I have missed. Also, busy getting ready for wedding of first Granddaughter last Saturday. Something pretty special about that!
  16. Yeah, Jainen.....have a good one!
  17. I still use Quicken v6 also.; which is my only concession to Intuit. I use it for a lot of bookkeeping for several clients. If they have payroll, I use Medlin with ATX. I have always thought that in most cases Quickbooks is overkill and the need to update every year is rediculous and expensive IMO.

    TRX

They have been calling and leaving long, detailed messages at least once a week; even after I told them I was not interested.
  19. Karen...I just watched the video and it just gave me chills. Particularly, since my Granddaughter is being married tomorrow. Thank God that Michelle is doing well. How is Grandma doing?

    NT - thanks

and flowers, and gift cards, and food..........and cash!
  21. MY annoying phone calls and letters have all been from HRB and TRX. The only thing I get from ATX (CCH) is e-mails. Tom, does it do you any good to get that frustrated? Why not just ignore.
  22. That made me decide that I would rather go and prepare dinner than work with the public any more today. Thanks for sharing, Joel. Seems that some people have too much time on their hands. I have several clients named Mark. I hope your caller was none of them.
  23. Rates here in Central WI are more in line with the ones from Joel's sheet. According to your rates, my Husband's Partnership, alone, owes me about $14,000 in back payment. (Good Luck with That!) There seems to be much varity according to the locale, distressed economy, etc. This is a very interesting thread.
  24. In the past several days, there have been so many Birthdays. Way too many to address individually (unless you are Taxbilly). So to everyone who is celebrating in September.
