  1. Jainen, that is true, but what they were advising was that the building hit was not the building in Austin that received the e-files from some States; one of which is mine.
  2. You cannot create it under the client's regular account. Create a new account under Payroll. Select 1099 worksheet for whichever one you want. Program will take it from there; creating the 1096, etc. Other answer is correct. Click on e-file and create. It may sit in your subimtted e-files for a while, but eventually will be ACKd.
  3. I did receive an e-mail this afternoon saying that e-filing would not be affected by the crash....

    Inherited IRA

Wouldn't the losses belong to the deceased sister? His basis is the basis on the day that he inherited it.

    1099 Misc.

Line 21......Prizes and Awards...I have never had a problem with these.
  6. And mine, as well.....Barbara is very lucky to have such a caring friend.
  7. You don't have to put anything on the K1....click on the name of the business and then put the amount of the SE Health Insurance paid by the client on Line 1. The line is blue so no overriding is necessary.
  8. On another note, I am finding that several clients with multiple jobs and in view of the new withholding tables; are having little or nothing withheld. This is particularly true in the case of students who are someone elses dependent and therefore do not qualify for the making works pay credit. It is a totally mixed bag this year.
  9. Capital Loss can be taken on sale of inherited house which is always LT......I understand where she is coming from, I just don't know in this messed up economy, which way will fly. I have very little research material with me this weekend.

    MFS

Did I not say that the custodial parent had to comply with all HOH requirements? Of course, the child would have to comply also. (Woe is me, I am even beginning to sound like Jainen)

    MFS

This is the correct answer for the MFS, HOH question, in its entirety. Of course, they have to be separated as bcolleen states and the custodial parent has to comply with all HOH qualifications.

    SE Taxable ?

It will be interesting to see what kind of 1099 that my director client receives this year. He has not come in yet. He is also a berry farmer and an insurance salesman so has three Sch Cs. Will post when I have more input.
  13. Thanks.......I added the WI site to my Favorites as there are bound to be a gazillion questions about this one.
  14. Does anyone know why folks spend bucks for Turbo Tax and brag about it when they could use Free File on the IRS website.? I know that we have been around the FTHB block a time or two on this board. It is frustrating, it is difficult to explain these mid-year changes to clients and that is the end of my "vent" for now. How about the "new" rebates or whatever they are for energy-efficient appliances that they announced this morning? They flatly stated that if you bought it last week, you are out of luck. Like we need more confusion.
  15. At least it sounds as though she is getting a refund. Many taxpayers with similar circumstances or taxpayers who had several jobs wherever they could find them, are having to pay because of this underwithholding. We all know what happens to people who work several parttime jobs when it comes to Federal withholding.
  16. That brought tears to my "new" eyes; especially as I know some of your story. Today, friends are what matter and we have lots of them here.
  17. I have ordered mine for years from Tenenz.com. Always use the same ones, have my cover sheet print to show my info in the window. Generally run about 59 cents each in lots of 100; but they offer early-bird and other discounts. They also have custom ones for ATX as well as other supplies including uni-forms. Take a peek.
  18. In addition, you also have to check one of the boxex below stating whether you want forms to show with prices or without. I always check without and I think that is what you are looking for.
  19. Hey There......I am hoping that it is a great one! :bday:
  20. A qualifying taxpayer may elect to treat a home purchase made in 2008 or 2009 as occurring on Dec 31 for the purpose of claiming the credit on the prior years tax return. Since he couldn't occupy one without the other, I would use the October date since both dates qualify.

    1099 ACKS

The whole mess of them were accepted early this afternoon.........Yeah!

    Timeshare

I rarely accept a new client without a copy of the previous year's return. In fact, I rarely accept a new client as I work alone and don't want more than I can handle comfortably. This is a referral from his son who is a long-time client. So far I have only spoken to him on the phone.

    Timeshare

I WILL ask. However, since this is a new client, I know very little about him except what he told me when he set up his appt. He has some other serious issues also and can use all the help he can get. I would guess that the buyer was pushing for a quick sale at a low price to have told him that. Thanks for the input.
  24. Jainen, I have to agree to disagree on this one. We aren't saying anything of the kind. I have clients who have purchased houses and are surprised when they find out they are getting a credit (in addition to an extremely good buy). On the other hand, we all have clients who are trying to twist every situation to benefit themselves. It is our job to weed them out; and often they don't qualify for anything. However, I had to do battle with the IRS all summer for a client who received and deserved the credit last year. He didn't time his purchase to comply with the passage of a tax law. He timed it to comply with his marriage. He just happened to be eligible and the IRS was adament that he had to pay it back because he had paid property taxes in the prior year on vacant land. He ended up receiving a letter of apology from the IRS, but we didn't get it settled until Sept. I still cannot help feeling sorry for the ones like Margaret's son who miss it by a few days or a month. That doesn't mean that I don't understand that there have to be cutoff dates. It would be just as rediculous for those of us who put kids through college without any education credits to be crying over that can of spilled milk. It is what it is, but that doesn't mean that it always seems fair.
  25. Still, motive or not aside, it is still too bad for those who miss it by a few days or a month. All of these odd cutoff dates are extremely difficult to keep track of; not to mention the aggravation.
