I'm sure she thinks you should pay her directly. Like its your fault she doesn't know how to read instructions or write a check

The instructions on both th NJ 1040 NR and the NJ 1040 say to use the NJ 1040. Are you sure I should be using the 1040NR. Looks to me like this is Non-Resident only. He is now a NJ Resident, having moved there from IL

and this reminds me of a little story... Mayor Daley of Chicago, Barack Obama, George Bush, John McCain and Hillary Clinton were all on a small boat in the middle of Lake Michigan. The boat springs a leak and starts to sink. They see no boats in the area and try the radio to find that is is broken. Then they look for the life jackets and find only one. Mayor Daley, says, "Well we are all politicians, we should vote on who gets the life jacket". All agree Th result of the vote Obama = 1 McCain = 1 Clinton = 1 Daley gets 3725 and wins the vest

How about if I make a deal and agree to rule leniently on you when you tick someone off? (just doing what every other politician does to buy votes)

Have a NJ 1040 to prepare and need to allocate the interest income between IL and NJ for the period the taxpayer lived in each State. Having been on hold with ATX support for 40 minutes and then told the following 3 wrong answers over another 20 minutes: 1. The whole amount is taxed to NJ - NOT needs to be prorated based on # days lived in NJ 2. Use the NJ 1040 Nonresident forms. - NOT this is for non residents only, my client is a resident of NJ 3, Use the the credit on line 39 which has a sub-schedule A to calculate same. Not, this only applies when the taxpayer is a full year resident and has income taxed by another State. So, I am now doing what I should have done all along, asking the "Unnofficial" community. Is there some form or schedule available in ATX to allow me to allocate or do I have to override and allocate manually (also can do a itemized list this way)?
-
You will most likely have to file an amended return and the husband can file a paper return. And if Ex-Hub / father is upset... well your client will probably love that! Tell blame you and enjoy her ex's reactions! (wicked grin)

Thinking that as one of the few attorneys on this board and not the originator of this board or a moderator I will put my name into the hat for Judge. And if I win I think I will change my name to Judge Roy Bean, http://www.desertusa.com/mag98/aug/papr/du_roybean.html, or judge Issac PArker http://littlerock.about.com/cs/generalhist...angingjudge.htm. (PS: Incidentally, this is a cover of a Mason Profit album. Artist Julian Gilbert (my father). They are most famous fro their song "Two Hangman". Hard to see when it is this small, but the cowboy in the foreground (Terry Talbot) is holding a rope in the shape of a noose.)

Think I want to be a Judge.

Still with the short posts, so what level are you trying to reach now? JK

Great little program AVG. I have noticed over time that it seems to catch things the others do not. Uses less resources and therefore does not get in my way like the others did, yet the reviewers don't rate it well. Think they are paid by the competition!

<=== Too old to follow fashion trends here. Using my old coat.

Honestly, I have mixed emotions here. 1. I don't like that there is less competition for both my dollar and to keep the competition on its feet. 2. I also don't like that I have had software I use acquired multiple times forcing me to make other arrangements. 3. I do think you may have a valid point about our base not being able to support 30+ products. 4. I am not sure less competition means the remaining software companies, give me a better more powerful software Anyway it was mainly an observation.

Did not forget Booger. Somewhere else on this board Mel made the comment that he would not be ready this year. At any rate I always intended to get Mel's when he had a product and ATX, till Mel was fully up to the level of ATX. I stated this in a previous thread.

I am working on it. Only 244 to go for me! Gotta do what Bulldogtom and JohnH do and post a lot of little inane posts to get there more quickly. Trouble is that I am a lawyer and paid by the word, so never know how to trim things down!

Should I put a picture of wealthy millionaire playboy, Bruce Wayne up here? (Wonder if I could even find one?) Of course as he would really look today, considering his first appearance was in Detective Comics #27 in May of 1939. That would make him somewhere in his late 80's to mid 90's. Of course I could always say, that Alfred, through some miracle of technology outlived Bruce and inherited all his wealth.

Been getting a ton of mailers, calls etc from other software companies myself. Betting they are not certain we use ATX, but that they are targeting professionals that are not in their base of users, with the hopes of getting dissatisfied ATX customers. This seems to happen everytime a tax software company gets acquired. Even had one from Taxslayer myself. It hit the shredder without being read (other than than the title). A SHORT RANT: On a slightly different note. Does anyone have any idea how many tax software companies existed in the early 80's when we first started leaving the service bureaus and going in-house. My recollection was in the mid 30's. And now after mergers and buy-outs, year by year we are down to a handful. Guess we are a Valuable Commodity and should be treated as such.

Have seen a few post about TaxSlayer and although I have never used nor reviewed the software I know 2 accountants that had. One used it in his practice for years and liked it, but when he sold his practice to the 2nd accountant I am referring to she told me that she thought the program was very limited and difficult to work with. Her first act was to transfer every tax return to ATX.

Oh, and I thought my comment about the concubine "Now to find the right women for my concubine....." was an invitation to all the wonderful women out here. Very disappointed that I did not get even one inquiry here. After all, don't I look debonair and sophisticated with my Butlers outfit and Grey Hair? LOL
-
Now wait a minute, I was careful and only asked each question once. Guess I just got lucky. And, your husband might like a concubine! Think of how happy this could make him, or... hmmm there is an alternative line of thinking here best shown by the following joke: Why do husbands die before their wives? Because they want to.

I used to use the TASSC EZ-ACCT program until Intuit took it over. Last usable version I had was a DOS version, as the Windows version I had never worked right until Intuit took them over and helped fix it. Great program and very fast, even in the bad Windows version I had. Then when I tried to upgrade they told me I was not a customer and would have to pay full price, rather than the upgrade price which was 1000+ less. No Matter what I did or showed them I could not get them to see I was a previous user. Got so frustrated I kept using my old DOS version and refused to renew (the proverbial "Biting your nose off to spite your face"). I also (this is the part where I am emmbarrASSED) purchased the QuickBooks Accountants Edition, with the hopes of using it for a cheaper write up package (don't do much write-up here), but it is cumbersome, slow to input, many features are crippled unless you purchase additional modules (specifically payroll). To create financial statements, you must exit (from within QB) to there external Financial Statement module, which is slow, awkward, difficult to work with and I believe Excel based. Not a good option for write-up. Want to take a look at the ATX Client write-up package, but if it is not up to speed, I may have to reconsider EZ-ACCT. I believe that EZ-ACCT is still a good write-up package, even if it is sold by the accountant's competition and IMHO, enemy.

Always intended to stick with ATX if they stuck with us. Problem I had was their lack of commitment. Looks like they are finally starting to learn from their mistakes and failures. About time. And I am pretty sure it is the people on this board that have gotten them to see their mistakes. Atta - Person (politically correct Atta-Boy!) everyone! And Eric, once again, thanks for setting up this forum to allow us to be able to do this.

No. It is not the same as the depreciation rule. You can choose to deduct the full amount on schedule A, so long as you do not deduct anything for self employed health insurance on the 1040 directly. It is only "Not Allowed" on schedule A if you deduct it somewhere else.

Zeke: Apparently you and Jainen responded at the same time. And his response indicates that his previous post was intended to be sarcastic. Sometimes, I am afraid, the written word does not always relay the writers tone. I honestly did not read Jainen's sarcasim, but now that he explained it I can see it. And I think I am not alone there.
